TopicDavid Goyer explains why Marvel movies do better than DC movies
Daniel_Berkhart

Do you agree with him?

Comic book movies have been dominating the box office for over a decade now. Since Iron Man hit theaters in 2008, the Marvel Cinematic Universe has made well over $22 billion worldwide. DC attempted to follow suit with its own cinematic universe in starting 2013 with the release of Man of Steel. Over the past eight years, the DC Extended Universe has made millions of fans of its own, but it hasnt been nearly as cohesive or consistent as the MCU. There have been just nine DCEU movies to date, and they have grossed $5.6 billion at the global box office. So why has Marvel had so much more success than DC? One of the DCEUs top screenwriters might have the answer.
Last week, The Hollywood Reporter published an interview with screenwriter David S. Goyer. In addition to writing Man of Steel and Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, Goyer co-wrote the Christopher Nolan Dark Knight trilogy. His work helped pave the way for the arrival of DC Films.
As such, his comments regarding DCs theatrical ambitions are especially interesting. Heres what he said when asked what he would do next if he were in charge:
I think one of the issues is that Marvels had consistent leadership for the last 15 years or more, whereas DC hasnt. There have been all of these changes in terms of who is running DC. That is fundamentally very hard. Its hard to make any headway when leadership is changing. One of the other things thats made Marvel incredibly successful is all of their adaptations are true to the source material. Ant-Man feels like Ant-Man. The Hulk feels like the Hulk. They dont try to change things up. I would say, try to hew closer to what was the original intent. So, its having a consistent universe, having consistent leadership and staying true to the source material.
Kevin Feige has been a steady hand at Marvel for over two decades. He started as a producer on the pre-MCU movies, was named President of Production for Marvel Studios in 2007, and now runs the entire company. He has had a say in every project since the MCU kicked off in 2008, and it shows.

Thats not to say that he is solely responsible for the success of Marvels movies and shows nor would he want to take the credit but having one singular voice at the top for over a decade is one of the key differences between Marvel and DC.
There are rumors that DC might make a direct sequel to Man of Steel. For now, Goyer is focused on his new show, Foundation, which will premiere on Apple TV+ on September 24th.

So he does as instructed and got in trouble for that? School Board and the Superintendent needs some new members. Do they get voted in to their position?

iirc, 19 in South Korea is basically 18 anywhere else because they start at one when you're born, or something like that, right?

Yeah, they count time in the womb to your age so you come out at 1. Not sure why it's 1 year instead of 9 months but whatever. They also add 1 year to your age on January 1st. So a Korean's person age is at least 1, sometimes almost 2 years older than the age most countries would use. Like if you were born December 31st, you'd start at 1 and then would turn 2 years old on January 1st (even though you're only a day out of the womb).

Max Hayden, a 16-year-old New Jersey resident, reportedly pulled in $1.7 million in revenue flipping out-of-stock items online during the pandemic, including video games and outdoor heaters.
In an interview with The Wall Street Journal, the teen entrepreneur talked through his booming online resale business, now a taxpaying limited liability company.
Hayden made $110,000 profit in 2020 buying and reselling anything from video games and consoles to outdoor heaters and above-ground swimming pools for about double the retail price, according to sales records and accounts viewed by The Journal.
Hayden was quick to buy items that could go out-of-stock during the pandemic and resell them to willing customers for steep prices. This included dumbbells and hair clippers, which became hot when gyms and salons closed.
Hayden reportedly devotes 40 hours a week to his online business - the rest of his time is reserved for high-school studies, he said. He's reportedly outgrown the garage in his family home and now co-rents a warehouse space nearby. He also employs two friends for $15-an-hour to help with enquiries and pack-up orders, he told The Journal.
Hayden is one of many consumers from Gen Z - defined by Pew Research as anyone born after 1997 - that are finding new ways to make money online.
Many of these young consumers, including Hayden, are reselling items on sites such as Amazon or Facebook Marketplace or on resale apps such as StockX, Depop, and Goat.
Depop previously told Insider that some of its younger users were making as much as $300,000 a year selling secondhand clothes on its app, enabling them to buy houses and cars before they've even reached college age.

Hi! I really was a Jungle Cruise skipper for 5 years!
Totally depends on your skipper. Disney does not encourage it at all, and in fact actively discourages it. Most new skippers don't know the dirty jokes. Intermediate skippers know maybe one or two. Experienced skippers know them all.
The issue is that the way Disney seniority works, the longer you stay at Disney the more hours you get. The long shifts are in the morning and the short shifts are at night. Realistically, you are very unlikely to get an experienced skipper at nighttime, and you are very likely to get an experienced skipper in the morning. However, the issue is that families all show up in the morning, so skippers that know the dirty jokes will never be able to tell them. Every now and again an experienced skipper will work the night shift (because they traded shifts with someone or they didn't have availability in the morning that day), but then the skipper has to get the perfect storm of "I know there are no kids aboard" and "I know nobody on this trip will get offended and go to City Hall."
In my 5 years of working at Disney, I only had the chance to do the "risque" cruise twice: once when I literally had a bote that I knew were only college kids (it was the middle of a group of 300) and once when it was an after-hours cast member event where I had one dude onboard.
To give you a taste of the dirty jokes I knew:
  • That statue over there is Ganesha. You can see he's holding his trunk in his hand... and you would, too, if you were the guardian of the sacred Indian Elephant bathing pool.
  • These hippos are only dangerous if they wiggle their ears or blow bubbles; thankfully Bubbles is out sick at the moment.
  • That over there is the second-largest snake in the jungle. If anyone wants to see the largest snake in the jungle, I'm off-duty in 2 hours.

Cena in trouble again

John Cena apologizes for calling Liechtenstein a unitary democracy under a parliamentary semi-constitutional monarchy
Professional sports-entertainer and film actor John Cena has put his foot in his proverbial mouth again, this time blurting out during a press conference for the next Fast & Furious film that Liechtenstein a unitary democracy under a parliamentary semi-constitutional monarchy.
Cena has been pilloried in the press for the embarrassing gaffe, and on social media trending topics include #CancelJohnCena and #JusticeforLiechtenstein.
This comes just days after Cena made the unforgivable blunder of calling Taiwan a country, and then later calling Madagascar as a toaster oven (Cenas fluency in Madagasy is even worse than his German!).
The multi-time former WWE champion expressed his deep regret for his insensitivity, and assured his fans on social media that his statement was just a harmless accident.
Of course I know Liechtensteins direct democracy is only semi-unitary according to the 2003 constitutional re-ratification, and I apologize for indicating otherwise.
Cena addressed to all Leichtensteiners directly in their native tongue: Hektik, loyalitt, blhungen. Der schimpanse ist hier! (Hustle, loyalty, flatulence. The chimp is here!)
