Catch up quick: Meyers was born with Usher syndrome, a rare genetic disorder that left her deaf at birth and has progressively robbed her of her sight, per the Post. Since 2017, Meyers was permitted by the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Committee to bring her mother to international competitions as her PCA. But the organizing committee of the Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics has strictly limited who is able to attend the Games due to the pandemic. This means personal care assistants, including Meyers' mom, are not permitted to travel to Japan, the USOPC told Meyers and her family. (genuine question) Well, gay and trans panic are still valid legal defenses for murder in half the country, for one. Many states still make it difficult as hell to get hormone treatments as a trans person, or to properly revise your ID as well. (IIRC in some states it's even considered child abuse?) Pretty sure that a lot of places still can discriminate against you on religious or whatever reasons, purely for being LGBT, without punishment. That's just immediately what comes to mind. Throw in the social stigmas that surround being LGBT as well (for instance, morons that like to compare it to pedophilia as in this topic - either in bad faith or in some twisted attempt to justify their own shit) and you can immediately see that there are still many, many issues to face, many beyond the scope of legal equality, but also social equality.
