Not sure if it's been mentioned yet, but another feather in Cynthia's challenge / intimidation cap is that she also had a Spiritomb on her team, which at the time was the first and only Pokemon in the series with no type weakness.
It was the second, and also the uglier of the two. Sableye was the first and was much cuter, though probably not as competitively viable.

Gonna go ahead and disagree with you there. I legit hate the game. It's too grindy. If you don't capture enough species doing the right poses on your first run, then you get to do the same exact track a second time. Super annoying at the beginning, when you only have one track and one time of day to choose from. The beginning is very linear, so there's a real chance that you'll have to repeat a track at the same research level and time of day early on because only one new option unlocks at a time until like the third island.

Then when you finally level up a track, barely anything changes. You'll see some new species and some new actions, but for the most part when you go up a level, you'll see a ton of the same pokemon in the exact same spots. They could have really mixed things up with each level increase and made entirely new scenarios at each level and time of day, but they largely feel very samey. Bouffalant at the beginning of the track, birds around the middle, every time.

Then the scoring system is shit. Nevermind that the stars notation is unintuitive and that it seems like a 4 star photo should always score higher than a 1 star, that's not even my biggest complaint. I hate that it makes no sense which photo is assigned which pose. The three vivillon pics in my photodex are of vivillon just flying, but I've also had pics that qualify as those poses that depict vivillon hanging off something. Surely hanging off of something should be one pose and flying should be considered a completely different one. Some fish have different poses that are both just them swimming, not doing anything special at all. Then you'll get a photo of it jumping out of the water and it's considered the same thing.

The requests are just as dumb and they don't tell you what to actually photograph even if you manage to cause the event they're referring to. "Reunite this lost pokemon with its parent." Okay, did that, got a pic of them celebrating being reunited. But then they show up later in the course walking around together. Do I submit a photo of that, or of their initial reunion? I don't fucking know, but I know whichever pic I chose was the wrong one. Apparently this was fixed in the latest update and now the game marks photos that fulfill requests, but I had to put the game down after that happened.

Also Size, Position, and Direction are too heavily weighted. They're practically the only things that matter when going for a diamond score. Nevermind that you got a cool interaction between this pokemon and two other species, the professor wants your other pic that's zoomed in on just one of them. And getting max score in direction often means getting a really bad pic where you can't even tell what you're looking at. A good pic of luvdisc should be a pic from the side, fight me professor.

Finally, there's way too much cryptic shit. I found a sleeping Lugia once and could not for the life of me figure out how to get it again. I knew it involved a particular action upon seeing an interaction earlier in the track, but I couldn't figure out the first step in the chain that causes that interaction. It gets to the point where your options are to try every action on every individual pokemon on every track at every research level and time of day, or just look it up. Cuz some chains of events just don't have any real clues to go off of. I'll try fruit, orbs, scans, and music, but some fuckers won't react to anything and the real answer was to throw fifteen apples at one particular wingull earlier in the course. Oh and by the way it doesn't react at all to the first fourteen. These obscure "puzzles" are made even harder by the shit range on apples and the shit launch speed on orbs. The "final boss" was garbage cuz of the way it zipped around and my orbs were moving at half a mile per hour.

Also if you mess up a chain of events on a track, you need to start over. And sit through the whole thing again until you get to the relevant part. You can use the turbo, but then the pokemon you're looking for might not be in the right place when you get there. And when you stop using the turbo, there's a very real chance that you'll keep moving faster than usual and you won't have time to get a good shot from a good angle. So instead you just have to sit through the whole long ass sequence until you get to the part where you need a quick, precise throw followed by a snap with perfect timing.

So yeah anyway, bad game. I keep picking it up again trying to like it more, but something always comes up that just makes me ask "fucking why?"

Meh. Just cuz deterministic forces cause you to make decisions doesn't mean you don't make them. The deterministic universe is the mechanism through which we exercise free will and make choices. Nothing is forcing your hand, just setting the conditions that result in you wanting or not wanting to do something. And that's free enough will to me.

Unless he has an F-14 hidden (that the mountain didn't know about) that he can escape in, that wouldn't work. It wouldn't be easy, but that's the general idea. Simple bluffs wouldn't work. The shark would need a robot doppleganger or engineer for someone else to make the mountain blow up while he watched from safety. It'd be complicated whatever it was.

The mountain isn't stupid and would prefer not to die.
You said the shark was intelligent. Any intelligent cyborg shark would obviously have helicopter propellers built into his robot limbs, so he could just fly above the lava. Then when it cooled, he could land and enjoy a nice brunch on the hardened remains of his nemesis.

So all the shark has to do is bait the mountain into a volcanic eruption. Presumably by flexing his big shark muscles and boasting about how he's "hotter than lava" or whatever until the mountain tries to prove him wrong.

Great Bay > Stone Tower > Woodfall > Snowhead

Zora Link is the best n64 Link, and all you hafta do in the Great Bay temple is follow the pipes. Stone Tower has a nice atmosphere and good music. I'd like it even more if the GameCube version's freezing weren't such a constant threat. Woodfall was just kinda whatever. Snowhead was tedious.

But also:
[LFAQs-redacted-quote]

Majora's Mask is great cuz it has a lot of cool shit between dungeons and leading up to the dungeons. The actual dungeons are usually one of my least favorite parts of every Zelda. I love figuring out sidequests and making my way to the temples way more than wandering around mazes trying to remember which room was where. MM's sidequests were especially great cuz you could canonically fail them and learn from your failures in a cool way.

It's fun. The trainer battles and some of the boss monsters can be brutal though. And getting five star rankings for the bosses to get their eggs is occasionally a matter of googling the solutions.

I really like how easy it is to change up your team though. When you hatch an egg, the monster starts at around the same level as the rest of your team so you don't hafta grind a bunch. And the game offers a bunch of skill resetters so you can change up an individual monster's build if you wanna try something different.
