I paid when I made the reservation, so two months in advance. I think they had the option to do like a payment plan type thing, but I had enough to just pay it all.

Its easy for it to look like its all presentation when youre missing out on the crucial component of actually eating the food lol. Ive genuinely never had some of the taste, texture, temperature, etc. combos I experienced here, so the food itself is unique in a way. But again, I get its not for everyone. Especially if youre only thinking of meals in terms of sustenance and not any greater experience.

Not only do these places stay in business, I had to make my reservations two months in advance right when spots opened up to ensure I got us a spot in the restaurant. Its also probably worth noting that many chefs do different levels of dining at different restaurants. There is one by the same chef called Petite Crenn which, while still pricey, is much more reasonable for the average diner on a special night.

Oh yeah I forget to mention the restaurant I guess haha. It is indeed Atelier Crenn! They were I believe 34th on the Worlds 50 Best in 2019. The 2021 list comes out in October or something so it would be cool if it rose the ranks. But honestly, I was interested in this restaurant before it had its third Michelin star (first female chef in the States to achieve that btw!) and before it was on the Worlds 50 Best list. The Chefs Table episode on Dominique Crenn is one of my favorites. Next time I take my favorite person to a really nice restaurant I want to go to Alinea, n/naka, or The French Laundry.

Yeah it was definitely pricey, but it was more than just the food, it was a whole experience for me and my favorite person. And this was a rare opportunity. This is the only point in my life where I have had a spare grand or two (or more) lying around to splurge on something like this, and me and this person arent regularly in the same place at the same time anymore, so it was was a good opportunity to celebrate that as well. Idk if Ill ever be able to go a restaurant this expensive again, but if I do its not going to be for years at least. You have to be interested in cuisine as more than just sustenance and view this as like an artistic experience to appreciate it. I get its not for everyone, but if you get it, this was well worth the price imo.

With the wine pairing, for the both of us, I paid about ~$1,300. It would have been closer to $900 without the wine. They also had a more expensive wine pairing that could have pushed it closer to $2k or beyond, but I dont know enough about wine to want to spend that much. As it is, it was already a lot of wine and we didnt finish it all. They also had a non-alcoholic craft beverage pairing for a little less than half the wine pairing and I think a better option would have been to have had one of us get that, one of us get the wine, but share it all.

My understanding of Michelin stars is that 3 and 4 aren't going to have much difference food quality wise, but the higher stars are earned through service and atmosphere as well as high food quality.

I think 5 stars is the type that's really strict that all napkins must be 3 inches North of the salad fork, and folded X way, while also being 5 inches East of the water glass or something like that.

Michelin only goes up to three stars! This restaurant is also on the Worlds 50 Best list

A curious set of dishes, you don't normally see gastropub experimentation past 2 star.

i have been to a handful of one star locations across the country and many, many bibs and mentions, but this is the first place Ive been to that has more than a single star! So I dont think I have quite the level of familiarity you seem to as I was unaware of that

it was nothing like a grape in texture, taste, etc. I guess its got a similar shape, but in function it served more as like a pre-meal appertif shot

I think you should keep her blocked. Youre not ready to be friends yet now even if that is a possibility down the line. You need space if youre thoughts are this obsessive and she only wants to be friends. If you feel there are possibly some things left unsaid, Id recommend writing out some mock texts but dont send them. It will help process your feelings on this.

sounds cool, hope you had a good time, people who just shit on food like this all the time are boring, not everything has to be practical sometimes food can be an experience.

yeah, I sent some of these pictures to my other friend and he pretty much told me it was dumb. Hes usually a friend who appreciates good food too. The woman I took went to culinary school though, shes the one who got me more interested in food like this, so it was good to share this experience with her (shes also my favorite person so thats cool 2). But yeah, this was more than just about dinner. It was an experience combining food, art, and poetry in a really unique and fun way. Both me and the person I went with greatly enjoyed our time and that to me means it was money well spent!

and lastly a photo of me three glasses of wine deep

anyway ask me anything or make fun of stuffy pretentious food idk

menu + wine pairing. I think I shared them slightly out of order so its not like a one to one match up. Also, I think she missed getting a picture of the last course before dessert because we had like a small cheese salad that I cant find the picture of (it was the most visually basic thing but still good and fun presentation)

and finally a small assortment of chocolates

Dessert avocado toast. That bread was like delicious air it was light

my favorite dessert course, lavender ice cream sandwiched between a delicate waffle with a chocolate almond thing on the side

First dessert course was like some tropical ice thing. Almost all the desserts are super delicate, even more so than they look, and just melted in my mouth

I can see why it could come across as pretentious, but I think the deconstruction allowed for an interesting combo here though because it utilizes textures and whatnot Ive never had in French onion soup, but also when its in your mouth it is undeniably (really good) French onion soup

Oh I didnt see she had a good picture of this one, so heres a better quality of this one. The broth was like a warm seafood liquid that was good

These two also went together. That was like a circle of trout and bowl of vegetables and the vegetables tasted like meat even though the entire dinner was pescatarian

this is a deconstructed French onion soup lol. You dip the crackers into the stuff and drink the broth on the side. Also, the white circle in the center? Thats like a savory French onion ice cream type thing. Again, sounds weird, but absolutely delicious

This was the most interesting and delicious salad Ive ever had. Such a weird and unique mixture of taste, temperature, and texture. Those green things are like a vegetable that has been like turned into dippin dots. Sounds weird, but the salad was fantastic. And the dude made it all in front of us like a science experiment

this is a leek tart and there was crunchy leek straw with it (you can see in background)

these are oysters prepared two different ways. That second one is like a cloud covering all the other ingredients

first course was kir breton. You put that ball in your mouth and after a brief moment it explodes into liquid flavor

I went on a hiking trip with some friends today and we listened to this album on the way there and back, and i didnt dislike it, but I feel like most of the songs read as Modest Mouse imitating the sounds of other bands. For example, I cant remember which song, but it sounded so straight up like an Animal Collective song that I was like is Panda Bear featured on this? Another song sounded heavily Real Estate/Beach Fossils/that sound inspired. Almost every song I felt like I could see them wearing their influences on their sleeve. Modest Mouse is one of those bands that is good enough and has their own unique sound, so they dont need to imp other styles. Again, not a bad album, but Modest Mouse can do better. Edit the Sad Parts is still my favorite song from them.
