KawiKa 07/15/21 2:39:11 PM #51	Driving those big bastards was my old job! It was very good fun around 10 years ago but the amount of other traffic on the road now has made it very very difficult. Had the odd night out here and there, usually twice a week which was cool becauseit made the week go faster in a way. Plus, the peace and quiet is nice! Overnight parking was always best in a stop with security, food places and showers.I used to have to pay that out of my own pocket (usually around 15 a night) but if you keep ya receipts, it got paid back to you at the end of the week. Also, you get the night out money which is tax free because the Government pays that. Had a few instances where the curtains on the HGV were slashed because thieving bastards wanted to have a look inside while you're sleeping, even in secure places! Fuck knows what security were doing lol. If I was carrying stuff that was heavy enough to need a forklift to take it off, I just used to open the back doors so anyone could see inside and think "er yeah, we can't steal that". Our driving hours in the EU seems a lot different to the US. Could only drive for 9 hours and extend that twice a week to 10. The working time directive is a bloody nightmare to understand but when you finally understand it, it's kinda easy. I used to carry ADR (dangerous goods) years ago, fertiliser and diesel, basically a moving bomb lol but that's where segregation comes in. Even used to carry poisons. Golf courses hate moles etc. There are plenty of jobs out there (in the UK) where you can be home every night. Trunking was the best part though. A to B, back to A. Multidrop is just ugh! Especially delivering to farms and small towns etc, because of weight limits, low bridges, narrow roads and there are even places you can't go because nobody wants explosives going through their little towns when the main road into is a very steep hill. (Don't blame em) The worst part on the roads though, cars, motorbikes and cyclists. An awful lot of people have no idea the space and angles a huge HGV needs on the road. I used to block multiple lanes at junctions/roundabouts to stop people creeping up the side of me thinking they can get round, all the while my backend is swinging around at crazy arcs lol. But if ya gonna drive the big stuff, you really do need to be calm and not be in a rush. Nothing worse than a driver being stressed and in a rush while driving that shit on the roads. I'd definitely recommend it though just to see the country and people. Being that high up, you see so much more than being in a car. --- This message has been reported to the moderation staff.
