Most people will still tip. Often its because people have worked in service , then pay it forward to support local business etc.

In most states , servers are paid the federal minimum wage. Which is like 7.25$ I believe. And then they have to declare their tips. And if the tips arent above the state mandated minimum wage , the business has to pay the difference. So lets pretend that is 11$ per hour , then it's assumed that server will make 4$ per hour. If not they are still covered by the business.

In the meantime , the servers usually pay out hosts and cooks. This differs bigly.

Every place worth a shit , the servers and bartenders are usually making massive profit. Well to do people will average a 20% tip , so a 100$ bill often leads to a 20$ tip. With each server having several tables per hour in a shift of several hours.

You can see how someone can make a hundred dollars or more per night cash , after taxes and payouts , by walking a plate of food to your table , smiling , and refreshing your soda. Working less than 8 hours and a cash tip is proly going right in their pocket. The average American is extremely generous. I know many servers who live like min rockstars, flying to Vegas etc and with heavy drug habits , while not working that hard. And i myself reap in hundreds of dollars from them aside from my check.

Servers are largely spoiled imo. Service is going to shit. If i had a table of 6 friends and racked up a bill of 400$ , you think I have to pay 80$ to the server? Fuck that. I will give you 20$ and you are welcome. I will pay 20% on a reasonable bill but expecting huge amounts of money because youre beautiful and you brought me a plate is bullshit. I would go back to the kitchen and give it to the chef and cooks personally , and yes that does happen. I know girls that make more money than strippers from bartending.
