Josuke vs Kira is my favorite final fight in the series besides the "that rain sounds like Josuke" thing. Usually, either the Jojo or the villain gets some new ability near the end that prevents the fight from being both characters using their stands to outplay each other. Bites the Dust is interesting because solving enables the fight to happen on its own, and Josuke and Kira's stands have particularly neat interactions against each other. Both characters also get assisted by whatever allies they made along the way - Josuke gets help from his group and Hayato, but Kira also gets his dad and Stray Cat. In particular, Josuke gets to implement his training with Jotaro, when he uses the glass as a projectile just like he learned when he was hunting rats. The fight also just devolves into both characters hiding from each other and flicking things through a window. Usually the final fights tend to start ramping up towards the end, but Josuke and Kira are just too injured toward the end to do anything more than limp towards each other.

They do bring up quite a few aspects of Nen (the power system) so I can narrow down the ones that are relevant.

In - A technique that allows your nen to become invisible.
Gyo - Focusing your aura to a particular part of the body to strengthen it. In particular, focusing it to the eyes allows you to see nen hidden with In.
En - Projecting your aura around you to detect things.
Zetsu - Stopping your aura from covering your body in order to become harder to detect. Also makes you more vulnerable to damage.
Hatsu - Synonymous with nen ability, the actual techniques that they create.

Hatsu can be further split into six categories:
Enhancer - Using your nen to enhance your physical abilities - do a big punch basically. Also healing.
Transmuter - Your nen can take on special properties without being physical. Basically elemental powers.
Conjurer - You can use your nen to create physical objects. Basically creating a sword or weapon.
Emitter - Your nen can be used at long distances. Usually either projectiles or something that can operate remotely.
Manipulator - You can imbue objects or other people with nen. Users are most likely to either bring their own weapons to empower or control peoples' bodies.
Specialist - Misc, anything else that doesn't fit any of the other categories.

Note that the above categories can and do overlap a bit. I don't know if I would watch this series sped up, this is far from the last exposition dump in the series.

^good summary without going into too much detail. I'll also add, though, that each prince from the royal family has what's called a Guardian Nen Beast. they get it by completing a ritual, and it's basically a Stand. I believe the Prince (used as a gender-neutral term here; several of them are female) can't see their own beast or something?

Anyway, to shift the balance in the succession war, Kurapika revealed the existence of nen to basically everyone involved. he also used the syringe to awaken several peoples' aura nodes.

there are some really interesting nen abilities among the princes and their bodyguards.

some minor qualms:

as far as I know, it's not actually clear that this was done by Hisoka. the Nostrade family has many enemies. it could even potentially have been her father that killed her; as Neon might be considered worthless without the ability.

if I remember correctly, Illumi was actually hired by Hisoka to work with the Phantom Troupeto kill him. Kalluto is actually part of the troupe though
Thanks, like I said before it's been a while so I'm a bit fuzzy on some of the details. Couldn't figure out when to bring up the nen beasts, since most of them aren't relevant yet.

L fucked up also by immediately saying that Kira sprung the trap, and now he knows where he is. L should have kept it secret that they had narrowed it down from a global investigation.
To be fair, that was mostly to goad Kira into trying to kill him to see how much information about a person Kira needed in order to kill them. He was able to confirm that Kira needed an identity in order to kill. Also why did this need to be spoilered, this is 2nd episode stuff.

It's been a while since I read it, but I can talk about a few points. Spoilers obviously.

A royal family is having a succession crisis onboard a giant ship en route to the Dark Continent by way of battle royale between the children. Kurapika joins as a bodyguard for an infant participant because one of the other princes is in possession of the last set of eyes he needs to get back. Kurapika also unveils his last chain, which is a syringe that acts as a one-time ability copier as long as he's in Emperor Time. We also find out that the drawback for Emperor Time is it takes an hour off his life span for each second of use. If he overuses Emperor Time (like 10ish minutes at once) he can pass out with Emperor Time still activated, so he's lost like 10-20 years off his lifespan just from this arc. The prince that Kurapika's after is quickly being trained in nen, and he basically has King Crimson as an ability, minus the intangibility.

Chrollo and Hisoka had their death match. Hisoka lost and technically died, but he used Bungee Gum to restart his heart after death, and he got a power boost since nen can strengthen after death. He's partially made up of Bungee Gum now, since at least a foot was blown off that he's replaced using Bungee Gum as a prosthetic. Now that he's lost a fair match against Chrollo, Hisoka's trying to whittle away at Chrollo's allies and resources. He's already killed Kortopi and Shalnark, and he's also killed Neon too offscreen to remove her ability from his book. The rest of the spiders are also on the same ship as the royal family, and they're looking for Hisoka. I believe Illumi has also joined the Troupe too, along with Kalluto.

Some other characters characters like Bisky, Hanzo, and Melody also joined the royal family battle royale as bodyguards at Kurapika's behest. Leorio, Ging, and Pariston are also onboard IIRC.

Which is great.

Don't gotta memorize the different Chakra releases or different elements of chakra(a subject that got dropped quickly), how spiritual pressure works, how this energy system works, or that one, or this new one.

It's simple, and gets thrown aside to let the story shine. Ki is your health. Stronger you are, stronger your ki.
It also leads to characters getting sidelined due to power creep. At least with the way nen works, weaker characters can still be relevant.

That's fair and true. Although, with earth, he did seem to get the seismic sight down in the end, so that's really impressive. But yeah, far from a master, and probably far from how strong he was by the time he was Korra's age.

In theory, wouldn't the Avatar be able to beat their teacher in their respective element by the time they are finished? We saw Roku able to beat his water-bending teacher in a fight and his earth-bending teacher in a race. Forget if he bested his air-bending teacher(s), but still, I assume he would have been rather impressive there too. I wasn't under the impression that Aang could beat Toph in a straight-up Earth-bending battle except if he were to use the Avatar state of course. I also don't remember him being as versatile as Katara was with water (did he even really use ice at all in the series), so I don't think he'd beat her either honestly. I mean, Katara and Toph were prodigies with blood bending and metal bending respectively but still.
I could see Aang eventually being able to beat Katara in waterbending, especially since Katara was still a relatively new bender, despite being a master. I don't see Aang being able to beat Toph's eartbending, since it's more than a martial art to her, and Aang's disciplines are spread thinner than being able to just focus on earthbending. Aang could definitely take Zuko as well. I never saw Zuko as a particularly gifted firebender - he was always a better ninja/swordsman than a bender, though. Zuko canonically trained with Piendao to a high level of proficiency before his exile, and at the beginning of this series Iroh was still trying to keep him on learning the firebending basics.

It just has to do with the time-scale of the shows probably. With Korra, we see she knows 3 of the 4 right when we see her, but then we don't see how long it takes for her to truly be good at them. Then, it only takes one season for her to finally "complete" her training (not counting the spiritual training, and actually mastering air of course). Still, she's like 18 by the time she even learns air I'm pretty sure, and probably much older before she masters it.

Aang, on the other hand, took 3 seasons to do it, but that was all jampacked in less than a year in the story's time.

Like, when it came to earth-bending, Aang's greatest struggle, it took him a single episode to start making progress. Whereas with Korra, as mentioned, it took her the entire first season to start being able to do air! Let's not forget, Aang was the youngest air-bending master and only 12 when he did all of this. I love Aang, and think the Avatar should be powerful, so I don't mind this at all. It kinda is the point that the Avatar is powerful! It feels like Korra is not that, lol.
For what it's worth, I never got the idea that Aang had actually mastered all four elements by the series' end. He obviously mastered air and definitely water, but he hadn't been doing firebending for that long, and I believe Toph remarks at one point that his earthbending could still use some work later in the series. I thought that was part of the reason why they were originally going to wait out Sozin's Comet and confront the Firelord when Aang was actually prepared. I'm sure to the average layperson in-universe he would be considered a master, but not to the extent of previous Avatars that trained with the best benders in the world for years and years.

But yeah, definitely stick around for Book 3.

Are you sure you know what that "yin and yang thing" you speak of is? Since the Vaatu/Raava relationship is very similar.

https://avatar.fandom.com/wiki/Raava#Trivia
Do you? It's not supposed to be good and evil, it's a whole lot of opposites. The point is that Vaatu is blatantly evil, when Spirits shouldn't even have conventional human morality, but Vaatu just wants everything to be worse. Yin and yang are supposed to exist in harmony, which Raava and Vaatu never did. The Moon and Ocean spirits were better examples of that relationship.

I get it's yin/yang but I just feel turning the spirit world into light vs dark turns it into a tired trope.

They say this is light vs dark but really this is good vs evil.

I just preferred how the original Avatar handled spirits. They felt like agents of the world vs agents of good or evil.
It's not even just a yin and yang thing - Vaatu winning is bad for everyone. There's nothing ambiguous about it.

You can find quite a few flaws in LoK's writing, but it's odd to think of her as good at everything when she spends most of the series getting bodied by the main antagonist of each season. She also constantly makes controversial political decisions that everyone hates her for (allowing the Northern Water Tribe to occupy the South under the pretense of peace despite showing up with an armada, opening up the spirit gates permanently). Aang also had to make similar decisions (allowing the Fire Nation colonies in Earth Kingdom to remain independent), but the series gets to gloss over that by adapting those events in the comics only. Korra had to actually deal with the fallout of the Avatar's intervention in world politics in the series proper.

Berserk 2016-2017 starts with the third main arc of the series - you're not watching a prequel by watching the previous arcs, you basically started the series 90 chapters into the story.

Also not sure how you heard that the 90s anime was bad when the 2016-17 series is considered the worst adaptation of the series by far.

The best way to experience the story is the manga, but the 1990 anime is good too (though it'll blue ball you way worse than 2017), and the movie trilogy was decent from what I remember of it.

Also why/how did jotaro beat DIO?
The World kicked with Dio's bad leg, and the synchronized damage that Dio took from The World's leg being punched caused him to explode. Stands tend to shatter when they're broken, so that's sort of why Dio took more damage from his stand's leg being broken rather than when his own leg got busted.

Also he pissed Jotaro off.
