Do you have an example?Well the bit at the end where she talks about the online left being too radical, which is obviously something shes done before (she likes to frame herself as a sort of Enlightened Centrist of the leftvaguely anti-capitalist, but without taking specific stances beyond supporting some socialist reforms to neoliberal democracy, pro trans rights but not really understanding all the weird non-binary stuff that the youths are doing, etc.) and I dont have a problem with that, but in that bit about the online left she attributes the infighting and criticism that the left levels at itself not as valid critique or genuine discussion but as emotionally driven, irrational diatribe brought on by subconscious resentment over an inability to piece together political victories or otherwise wield political power. This comes across as self-serving to me, when she herself is often the subject of critique from points of view which are further to the left than she is. Also the entire segment where she talks about Marie Antoinette and how she was totally scapegoated and wrongfully maligned and was actually completely innocent while dressing herself up as Marie Antoinette, feels a bit on the nose, doesnt it? --- An Injury to One is an Injury to All https://iww.org/ |

| MrToothHasYou 08/09/21 10:14:36 PM #15 | Maybe Im just cynical and looking too much into things, but one thing that rubs me a bit wrong about this video is that it seems to me that shes purposefully framing her arguments in a way thats designed to protect her from criticism from what she considers to be purists. It reads to me at times like a preemptive posturing against, for example, people who criticize some of her more problematic takes on things like gender. Or maybe Im just sublimating my own feelings of ressentiment. I dunno. Anyways I like the video, it was very informative, entertaining (as to be expected from Nat), and gave me a lot to think about, which is exactly what you look for in a video essay about philosophy.
