Oh that show was based on an anime / manga? Didn't know that. Not at all surprising, though.

Yeah originally a manga. The author is a woman who was a cop for 10 years, so its a lot of personal experience. It's really good.

Another one I'm surprised not to see being recommended here is HunterXHunter. I remember this board hailing it as the best ever and people telling me I was dumb for liking Jo Jo more. I tried really hard to get into that one and even watched almost the first two seasons. It was soooooo corny and had this predictable sound track that would go every episode. It's one of those shows where every main character is like a 12 year old boy and one of the main villains is a full grown man who wants to "fight" the main character. Jusr never got exactly why that show is so loved, it wasn't any worse than standard Shonen, but that's pretty much all it was.

It didn't end well, it just kind of fizzles out. So everyone just passes over it. It is excellent, I do love it, it just feels unfinished and like it will never be finished.

Also it sounds like you didnt watch long enough for it to start being unique and turning the genre on its head.

All things equal, pay, benefits, and hours, would you rather weld, or come up with ad campaigns?

Jobs like welding are not things most people would choose in that scenario. Some would, but not enough. I wouldn't.

Really think about the people you know that are trade workers like plumbers. I've known a few plumbers, it used to be a popular job around here. None of them were that well off. Not as well off as the office workers, and they were all worked to death. Exhausted after work, just spending time recovering from that days labor. While the office worker was just starting to live his life after work.

It just wasn't an appealing lifestyle, and I really haven't seen that it's changed much. Which is why not many people are doing it.

There are definitely factories that pay well, there's just a lot of competition to get in. That's kind of how it should work though. If you can get a job at Lincoln Electric or ArcelorMittal you can live like a king here.

Its not just entry level shortage though. They don't have enough skilled labor either. Not enough mechanics, or electricians, or welders, or wood workers, not enough CAD people.

People just aren't doing those things these days, not like they used to. The pay is decent for an electrician, but who's doing it? People aren't using the pandemic time to learn to weld, or learn to fix CNC machines. They are learning to code, they are learning IT stuff. They are learning advertising and business.

Yeah, I'm at Amazon for 10 years, not Target. You may say its a character flaw, but not everyone needs to be the leader. The leader needs a right hand man, and that's me. I can fill in for him, I can support him, and I make his leadership stronger through doing so. That is my role, im comfortable and happy in that roll, and I fill that roll well.

So I don't think it is a character flaw, I think its a strength that I know what roll best suits me, and I'm not wasting productivity chasing promotions that don't suit me.

You can say whatever you want. Just know that all people will hear and all they'll see on paper is "complacent doing the bare minimum and zero aspirations for more than a basic level of responsibility, no interest in personal growth or further skill development. Happy in their box, does not like change". You're not going to be able to bullshit someone who detects bullshit for a living, unless you're going for another entry level retail job, no, that's really not an acceptable answer nor a desirable quality in a candidate (zero aspirations for self growth or to contribute more towards the company as they gain more experience). Quality companies want people who want to advance and succeed, they're not chomping at the bit to hire someone who says "exactly where I was 5 years ago" when they ask "where do you see yourself in 5 years" LMAO

The funny thing is, it's not bullshit. I'm extremely happy, and wouldn't want to change a thing. I feel extremely lucky in this aspect of my life. I'm able to live life the way I want for the most part.

I'm in an extremely happy and comfortable boat, why would I rock it.

No no you're right. Lazy people don't turn down promotions they're being begged to take. COOL AF people do that, I wish I was as cool as you.

Also, if you ever plan on leaving Target (I doubt it), you may want to come up with a better answer than "it was too much work" (nope, nothing lazy there). Because I guarantee the question "so.....is there a reason you stayed a basic employee for 13 years and never pursued management" will come up. And I gotta say...there really isn't a good answer for that lol.

Is because I was extremely happy with my job not an acceptable answer?

And with a new team lead that sees i know more than him and i dont want his job: i get all the hours i want. The cycle repeats.

It does make you feel like your job security is locked in stone. They know they are getting me at a steal, so they let me get away with anything, and I get first pick on schedules and desks. They know that I can roam around and do the job of multiple people, so they love me. I'll take that over $30 or $40 more a week.

it's either that or the government money, i don't know which really

They were having problems before the pandemic. They can't find enough welders and hvac workers nationwide, and it's been that way for while. It's a shortage of entry level and skilled manufacturing positions. Not many people are going into these jobs.

I remember I the 80s and 90s the goal was to NOT get a factory job. The goal was to go to college and get a job that isn't manual labor. That was one of the selling points of college to us back in the day. So that probably helped create this situation in a social engineering kind of way.

That's crazy. I mean, some areas it's just rough all around I guess, don't know what to say. I'm not saying you're wrong or trying to be unempathetic, im just trying to dispell this generalization that most factory work is bottom tier pay. The 3 states I've worked in (Alaska, Minnesota, Iowa) all paid decently for manufacturing.

Just because you're incapable of having an adult discussion, doesn't mean others are. He and I are doing quite well without you feebly trying to stir the pot, thanks.
Perhaps if you tried presenting your case as an adult vs acting like an attention starved toddler you'd be taken seriously? Idk, its worth a shot.

This is Greenup Kentucky, and it's borderline third world. The only thing keeping anything alive in this entire area is Huntington, WV.

So this place might not be the best indicator of factories overall, but it is a good indicator of how poor small town factories are, I think.

The old guys in the factories back in the day used to tell you not to work too hard. If you work too hard then your labor is getting undervalued. So get a raise first, then increase productivity.

I won't deny some factories pay shit wages. But I am saying most do pay pretty well for zero skill entry level labor. Dude, you and I both know you had to have skipped several decent factory jobs while picking those $9-$12/hr cherries you submitted as "evidence". Come on.

Man, $9 an hour would be a decent starting wage around here. Most jobs are $7.25 and don't go up much. Just recently since Costco, Amazon, and Walmart started paying higher, did everyone else start paying higher. All it took was those 3 places. When a job opens up, literally thousands of people will apply for one position, because everything else is shit.

$7.25 an hour, think about that. That's not just a few high school jobs, that's most jobs around here. There are only about 6 factories that you would want to drive to work for. One Walmart, one Costco, one Amazon and the rest is $7.25 or specialists like doctors.

So no, $9.00 isn't one of the shit tier jobs actually. You may even need a degree to make $9.00 an hour around here.

Whats the cost of living like? I just moved from MN and work at a shitty factory (Amazon) started at about $14-$15, most were $18 and up. Higher cost of living.
Just moved to Iowa and the pay is about the same, some factories start as low as $11 but the cost of living is dirt cheap.

Costco i have heard nothing but good things about, can't comment on them much. Walmart and most other retailers though, they love to advertise attractive hourly wages but don't tell people they aren't getting 40 hrs/wk. Hell, $20 an hour does me no good if I'm only getting 15-20 hrs/wk

Cost of living is super cheap compared to most places, but $8.00 an hour, $320 a week, still isn't going to cut it. So hard working factories paying that low is ridiculous, while a pizza delivery boy can make $500 a week in cash for just driving around.

The factories are never going to get enough employees unless they compete. If I can make the same money with not even half the work, why wouldn't I? It just leaves me with more energy to do other things.
