No reason, other than my parents just didn't want to have their children around anymore (I was raised by my 8 yo brother when I was 5, well, technically our 11 year old brother was supposed to watch us- I remember getting shocked from a faulty plug and my hand having black/metallic soot on it, and my 8 yo brother told me to wash it off... good times).

Anyway, so my parents were never really fans of us 3, and my oldest brother left the house at 18, then my other brother left the house at 19, so my dad figured, well son, you are 19, time for you to go. So I had to leave and stay with a buddy for a few months, got a job during those months and eventually found an apt that was looking for a roommate. Lived like a monk, saved up half my paychecks for a little over 3 years, didn't have much of a life. Used the savings and bought a tiny house in my mid 20s. Well, turns out that was the best decision (well, only decision) I've ever done as this was Bellevue WA, the housing prices skyrocketed, I sold it for more than double the price (just under triple), bought another house, sold it in 3 years for a decent profit, started investing my money and bought my 3rd home, long story short, I haven't worked in 10 years, living off of investments, currently looking into buying 20+ acres to build a custom home. Been looking at land off and on the past year, but still haven't found the right spot.

Oh yeah, my dad died last year. Didn't shed one tear. Didn't go to his funeral (well, I couldn't because of covid and they live on a tropical island that had mandatory 2 week quarantine for travelers).

L.A. will never solve its homeless problems until the majority of people and government recognize that its not about housing, but about mental disorders and drug abuse. Very little percentage of homeless are on the streets due to money or housing issues, and even then, those minorities usually get back on their feet if they want it. Look at the responses here... I keep seeing "housing" "housing". Just talk to actual social workers on the street. One of my friends is a social worker in California, she is frustrated with the ignorance and misconceived notions regarding the homeless. Housing is not the issue, its getting mental health and drug abuse recovery. It doesn't matter if you give these people free homes, they will still end up on the streets smfh. Its constantly falling on deaf ears. People just want to virtue signal and move on and not really care whether it gets solved or not.

FFS, there was a homeless poster and his brother here on CE and surprise surprise, they both couldn't hold down jobs because they both had mental disorders. Open your fucking eyes people, its not about housing.

I guess it is different for everyone but I was happiest in my life when I was trying to survive on my own after my dad kicked me out of the house at 19. Getting a crap job, having 3 roommates. Eventually getting a girlfriend who becomes your roommate, going out having pathetic "treats" like iced coffee and window shopping in the mall but never buying anything. Making sure I had enough money for rent. The excitement of being able to spend a few bucks to watch a movie which included taking a bus to the theater. Saving up just to buy a silver bracelet worth 120 bucks for your girlfriend for christmas. Walking over to the drug store in the snow with enough change and cash to buy tylenol and orange juice when she was feeling sick. Jeez, that was the best.

Now look at me. I probably made more money in 2 months with 5 minutes of work than most posters here make in a year, got zero debt, have millions in investments, buy anything I want in cash (if they don't take credit card otherwise I use a credit card because I actually get paid using my credit cards), and I'm like the most depressed I've ever been in my life.
