My area is pretty shitty, not in a city, and it's 700 a month minimum for a one bed apartment , and Florida's min wage is 10 an hour at the moment, which isn't near enough to cover rent. Granted it's going up annually to reach 15 over the next few years but that doesn't solve the crisis now. Most people have no idea the immense amount of empty calories they ingest from sugary drinks be it juice, soda, or iced coffees loaded with creamer and syrup. Just drinking only water and coffee with one or two creamers allows me to basically eat as much as I want and I've stayed 140 lbs since freshman year of high school. I'm 28 this year. I also try to avoid bread where I can, and eat some fruits and veges when convenient. And often machines were down and out of order. I also felt gross anytime I had to use them because I doubted they were cleaned properly or regularly. It sucked. Luckily I was able to use my mother's appliances 99% of the time, but many aren't so fortunate. Anyway, the tradeoff for a shit utility setup at that complex was cheap prices. Cheaper than laundromats. Furthermore these apartments are now over 700 a month, up a couple hundred from five years ago, under 500 Sq ft, no option for washer dryer hookup.
