If the Coachella performance didn't drop first, I would've thought this was some kind of token English track only meant to be heard as a studio rendition.

Even after Coachella, I mean obviously it's meant to be performed but I wasn't sure how. I'm saying what's surprising to me is all the choreo we see in the mv! It's full on Kpop in English. This is not the first time for such a thing or anything, but still.

Never really sure how these English tracks go. Maybe only Giselle really knows what she's saying, and to the rest, it's just memorization and vocalization of....sounds. But it gets interesting that way because they kinda style the language in their own way.

I think the members know enough basic English that they understand most everything, except perhaps the occasional uncommon word here and there to look up, and have already developed a decent pronunciation. For one thing being singers they've usually learned to sing a few English covers by the time they debut, and the higher profile groups get actual language/diction classes. Then again you have a good point... we've seen that's not always the case, or that it doesn't necessarily translate (npi) to a good rendition.

Yup, yup. I think most people at least recognize their potential, they were noticed, which again was itself an achievement, considering everything. You're right, their vocals specially are worth mentioning. Besides they do have at least the full 7 years to develop, and they're young. Very young, fun fact Classy actually have a smaller age gap than Kepler and LeSserafim, and of course a lower average age. I hope they get much bigger, too!

Find this to be the best choreography vid for them so far. The variable telephoto lens just goes well with the choreography, whereas the HYBE/Studio Choom/SBS One Take sessions kinda broke focus on what the stage performances actually look like.

I'm worried about Garam and the whole situation, though. I'm not defending or condemning anybody mind you, just saying these bullying scandals are always such a freaking mess. The first HYBE girl group label is also coming from Korean outlets so HYBE itself must be pushing it. Pretty sure the logic behind it is that this is the first girl group that HYBE has built from the ground up itself and not just acquired from another company.

Exactly, that's why it's technically correct. It's still dismissive of the history of the company (and its subsidiaries) but I guess that's the point.

Album sold 176k in the first day which is a record for debut albums from girl group and they are looking to blow out the first week record for girl group debuts, being only 30k behind the record after only 2 days.

Mmm, insane. Again even after all the previews you posted it was only yesterday that it hit me just how anticipated they were. First there's the P48/IZONE factor, which can be pretty big as we've seen. Then there's the Sakura/JP factor, obviously related but a huge factor just by itself and actually a big part of what made IZONE popular in the first place. And then the HYBE factor. And all these are multipliers on top of the girls base appeal, which I think they did a good job presenting. So yeah, it goes to show the one factor that never fails in the old Kpop popularity formula... just be popular since the beginning!

Likeable, although I'm still thinking it's bit "over-produced".

This and StayC's album kinda come with this shift in Gen4 sound of sorts imo. The B-sides don't feel like they're short of being capable of replacing the lead single.

Mmm, the whole album has a pretty mellow sound overall, which I find very easy to get into. Crazy, paradoxical, but in a way LeSserafim already sound kinda safer, more traditional. Which isn't bad or anything. I agree, some of the b sides I actually like more than Fearless, even though they're even more overproduced, and mellower.

Seriously though it was just a few days ago that I realized the closest they have to a sister group now is fromis lol. Funny how things turn out. Acquiring Pledis for example is what allowed them to poach Yunjin. I may rag on Big Hit and Army but what's good for Kpop is good for Kpop. And they're looking to do very well indeed, as I'm writing this they have broken the vaunted 10/24 record in views which only 3 debuting girl groups have, and I think only BP does normally. And if you argue that doesn't necessarily translate to more important numbers, I read the album is selling some insane number like 250k+. I mean now if we think about it, this group is freaking stacked.

They stand out for sure, for one thing most of them are pretty tall for idols like 5'7+, the tallest a full 5'9, which have earned then the nickname "fashion model idols". Then like Kazooo mentioned the styling is very natural... it looks almost low budget sometimes! To paraphrase Dolly Parton it's probably very elaborate to look this natural. Take the hair for example, all dark which I love, usually with hair like that specially for debut a group would do more of a "pure", innocent concept if anybody still remembers those, and the outfits would be very stylized. Again, it's like they've combined everything to give them this simple yet different look from the usual. It's very interesting, yeah maybe even breaking that mold of the Kpop image a little bit.

The response should be interesting to say the least, they will get torn to shreds if they go up there and lipsync. On the plus side they are going to perform a brand new song in their setlist, must mean a comeback is near

I mean, it depends on what your definition of "singing live during a performance" is but yeah, it's pretty crazy that they chose this stage to be their first major live performance.

Hybe has finally started revealing the lineup for their 6-member girl group thats debuting in May, one member reveal per day starting earlier today. Though we already know that Sakura and Chaewon from IZ*ONE and Yunjin from Produce 48 are in this group and the 3 unknown members names were found in the source code of the groups website >_>.

Brave Girls, Cosmic Girls, Kep1er, LOONA, Hyolyn, and VIVIZ to be on Queendom season 2. I'm SO excited for this, especially LOONA and Cosmic Girls. I kinda agree that Kep1er shouldn't be there because they'll most likely be successful regardless (Everglow or Dreamcatcher really could've used the boost), but I think this lineup is a huge win nonetheless.

I've watched a bit of the first episode of My Teenage Girl and never got around to finishing it, but I plan on watching through the entire season eventually. I'll share my thoughts on it then.

No no, Kep1er should be in Queendom because the other stations won't give them as much exposure even if they're popular. So Mnet should push them as much as they can. They are already pretty popular so I don't think there's that danger of overexposure either and turning into Mnet's pets like fromis. Not that that would be such a horrible thing.

Did you watch MTG? I've been watching but I started watching from the preview show they had before which was a whole little show on its own lol. So I still got a long way to go. I'll try to finish by the time the group debuts.

Oh okay, yeah I hadn't checked the rankings or anything, that sets me a bit more at ease I guess. For sure, by itself I think it's a good experience for anybody. Well... in theory, at least. Yeah, 14 is still very young. But hey at that age even just one year makes a huge difference.

- 11 or 12 year olds become trainees all the time regardless, and if survival shows provide a service is that it's the industry experience condensed into a few months and better to be disillusioned in a moment than after a 5 year grind
- eh, i'm not their parent and would not presume to know what's best for them
- my main picks are seonyou, taerim, and inhye hby

True, true, it's not a simple issue, there are a lot of factors to consider and it's not the same for everybody. That's an interesting point lol... if nothing else the show gives them a good reality check, which might actually be better if they get it when they're younger. Hmm still there's some unavoidable pain involved, and I know you know some can take it really really hard. That's regardless of age though. Anyways I know you agree with me that the industry could be a lot more responsible about a lot of things, and that the age of the idols is one of them. It's just the pretty much complete disregard that gets me... indeed the ugly commodity of it.

Frustration because even though I WISH I could enjoy this show, I can't be completely comfortable watching it because the youngest of these girls are like 11, 12. And this is coming from a Matsui Jurina fan, someone who doesn't normally have as much problem with young idols as other people. But yeah. Thoughts? Yeah, who knows. But I've seen arguments that Seungri was something of an outcast with the other members, they kinda just tolerated him, more than just for being the youngest would merit. I think they must have had an idea of what went on in his club and all and they chose to distance themselves, which honestly I don't know if one could have asked more of them. First glance I keep thinking those IVE members are still newbs for the group being new and younger, but literally Yujin and Wonyoung have one more year under their belt than Yeji.

Nice, these covers and collabs have always been one of my favorite things in Kpop, all kinds. Ryujin's was excellent too but I LOVED this one, everything about it (although it's funny how they hiked up the shorter girls a little more just so they'd be more even with the towers).

Again yeah you're right, these are no rookies anymore, besides Wonyo's always been a natural and Yujin's just a genius on stage; every good group has their aces of course and there are many girls who are better in one area or another but there's only a few girls with that perfectionist drive who completely dominate their performance to that level, however little they may lack in natural talent and charisma they more than make up with technique (Ryujin's another for example, Soyeon, etc).
