Honestly I'm in pretty bad shape physically so I really doubt I would have made it this far on a traditional bike, but it does come with downsides like each battery only getting about 35-40 miles before they die. Without all the gear I'm carrying weighing me down and making me incredibly unaerodynamic they can get me closer to 60 miles but oh well. So is it like you're pedaling and it assists you, or are you pretty much just steering while it does everything? |

tony8669 06/28/21 2:28:25 PM #29 | Unbridled9 posted... This is part of why I might do nothing actually. Because stores seem to be increasingly deciding that non-confrontation is 'better than risking offending people' or 'risking employee safety'. They'd rather have someone steal a thousand or more in goods than have an employee confront them and even just tell them to return the stuff and leave. The dirty secret of retail is 90% of all theft is done by employees, and the stores are writing down theft as part of the cost of doing business. Seeing Walmart is paying no taxes and doesn't even care about theft, why should I give a flying F if someone is stealing a cheap shirt made in a sweatshop? Maybe if companies were paying a living wage and paid taxes, I'd care. But most of these big companies are the REAL thieves, that shoplifter is just smalltime. |

Topic | I love video games, but they DEFINITELY make the world worse lol |
tony8669 06/28/21 2:00:28 PM #22 | fishy071 posted... I feel the same way. I got addicted to video games, and they have become a big distraction for me. I can't argue this point, I've known people who took things too far, playing Warcraft all day and they ended up doing bad in school and having to drop out. I do think parents need to limit how much time kids and young adults spend on online games, they are addictive. But IMO the answer is the same as alcohol: you don't ban it, you have to train them to have responsible attitudes toward them. Because otherwise, if they have no exposure at all, they dive in and have no understanding, no frame of reference, etc. I had actually played WoW for a great many years, and ended up quitting not because I didn't like the game, but because it was consuming too much of my free time, and there was other stuff I wanted to do (but wasn't). |
Topic | I love video games, but they DEFINITELY make the world worse lol |
tony8669 06/28/21 1:54:54 PM #21 | For a long time as a teen, my mother complained about how much time I spent on the computer. Meanwhile, she spent most of her leisure time watching bullshit TV shows (and this was long before DVR, so it was just whatever crap was on TV at the time). But I was also a voracious reader of books, and got good grades in school. There are lots of bad things people do. Drugs, alcohol, tv, delinquency, crime, etc, I hardly think enjoying video games is anywhere near the same level. I've often looked at TV and movies (and even books) as passive entertainment, whereas video games are interactive entertainment. |

tony8669 06/25/21 5:49:24 PM #41 | Bugmeat posted... Consider trying it with Miracle Whip in place of the mayonnaise. The texture is different and it has a slight sweetness that plays well with the dill pickle in the potato salad. It doesn't taste like Miracle Whip once you have all of the other ingredients. So even if you aren't a fan of the stuff you might still enjoy potato salad made with it. Greek Yogurt is the best substitute for mayo. Having said that, potato salad usually isn't good. |

tony8669 06/25/21 5:25:04 PM #30 | Wow, people call it "coke"? So when you want a Pepsi or Sprite, you ask for Coke? That's confusing. And potentially perilous. You want a Fresca, and someone hands you a kilo of cocaine, then you get arrested. |
Topic | Do you say POP or SODA??? |
tony8669 06/25/21 5:21:39 PM #29 | I use the terms interchangeably, which oddly pisses off a lot of people. I'm born and raised in Chicago, and I think "pop" is the preferred nomenclature, but it sounds too infantile to my ears. It's something a kid would say. So I'm not sure, I might say "soda" more, but TBQH, I don't drink either, so IDGAF, haha. |

Haha was going to say "But I like Tony's Chocolonely", but then looking it up on Wikipedia, it's a Dutch company, so yeah... the few times I each chocolate, I'm not eating American chocolate. |
Topic | WTF happened to Butterfingers? |
tony8669 06/25/21 3:14:52 PM #41 | Actually, taste is the sense most linked to memory, so when someone says something doesn't taste the way it should, that's as trustworthy a statement someone can make. I've found a LOT of things taste different now, and when you look into it, you see production facilities have been moved, ownerships changed, recipes were altered to be a penny cheaper per item, etc. It's a sad side effect of parasite capitalism. BTW, just googled "butterfinger tastes weird", and there are lots of articles. One states the recipe changed in 2019, and many butterfinger eaters were not happy. However, surprisingly, the recipe changes were made to remove hydrogenated oils (which is a good thing), and to use more natural ingredients (another good thing), and more peanuts (good if you like peanuts). Overall, the change was well received, and sales tripled. So you are correct, it tastes different. It's not the same recipe. |

Topic | how do you graph y=3x + 4 |
tony8669 06/25/21 2:58:15 PM #5 | Oh, I think I forgot, you're looking for a solution. Does it say something like "solve for X"? You'd just have to move things around. The two sides of the equals sign should balance out, so if you perform a mathematical operation, you do it to both sides. So subtract four from both sides, and you get y-4=3x. Then, divide both sides by 3, and you get x= (y-4)/3 (it's a fraction) There might be a better way, it's been a while for me and I'm just winging it. |
Topic | how do you graph y=3x + 4 |
tony8669 06/25/21 2:31:22 PM #4 | Is that even calculus? I think that's just algebra. I haven't done this for like 20+ years, but here's my thinking. The left/right axis is X, the up/down axis is Y. So, for a given position on the X axis, the position of Y will be 3 times whatever X is, plus 4. So... at X=0, we get Y=4 (3 times 0 is 0, plus 4). One x,y point is at 0,4. Now for X=1, we get Y=7... so the next point is at the x,y of 1,7 X=2 is Y=10 X=3 is Y=13 And plotting out all these points will be graphing a straight line, which is why this is called a linear equation. If you do this on a piece of graph paper, and your line is drawn correctly, you can then just look at the line and where the points are at, and not even have to do the math. Oh here's something I found out a few years ago, you can just google this, and they will show you the answer. It works for simple math, so Google is basically a calculator, and it works on equations as well (I just checked it, and it shows the graph). |

tony8669 06/07/21 11:12:37 AM #40 | BTW, I'd heard Coca Cola makes more money from coffee vending machines than they do from softdrinks. Or maybe it was Pepsi? I heard about it on some podcast which was talking about how companies try making money from predicting the future. Basically they want to know whether the next day will be hot or cold, because then they switch the vending machine to dispensing the opposite (so hot coffee on cold days, cold coffee on hot days). |

tony8669 06/07/21 11:08:23 AM #39 | It's not surprising the Conservative Cancel Culture wants to cancel anyone who opposes racism, fascism, etc. Pretty funny though they pretend they're not a cancel culture, but that's typical. They always deny what they're doing. What Conservatives think is very obvious if you've ever read Orwell's "Nineteen Eighty-Four". |
