Radio signals travel at the speed of light. So they would only be recieving 1930s signals now if they're about 70 light years away.

If they're like 1k light-years away, it would take them another 910 years to recieve those 1930s signals.

If they're in the Andromeda Galaxy, it would take 2.5 million years.

Ehhh, while no proof either way, I don't believe life is THAT rare. Your examples put these aliens anywhere from the Andromeda Galaxy (seeing Earth 2.5 million years ago) to 5 billion light years away if they're seeing the formation of the planet.

Current estimate by NASA of the number of intelligent civilizations in this galaxy is 13 iirc. It would just be impossible to detect unless they're a few hundred light years away. So even if it was like 13,000 over 100-200k light-years, there would be nothing to really detect because how far footprints travel.

Distance.

Radio has only traveled 200 light years so far, which is nothing in a single galaxy with 200-400 billion stars scattered over 200k light years. Ignoring the 2 trillion galaxies outside this one.

Even if intelligent life was extremely common in this galaxy, it would still be impossible to detect because of the distance unless extremely close by.

The entire act of using it is offensive because it looks no different than when a racist person does it and it's completely unnecessary. Intent is kind of irrelevant since I'm not saying any of these people are bad or had malicious intent. In fact, I know people do it do look cool.

Michael Scott is not a bad dude. He's ignorant. But it's never not offensive when he does the same thing with Stanley or Darryl. It's not malice or him intentionally trying to mock them.

Speaking with a particular vocabulary is generally a neutral action. When you say racial slurs or directly insult or mistreat somebody based on race, it's a lot easier to understand the intent. If a person is using vernacular of one type or another, it is unfair to assume that they are doing so for improper reasons.

I tend to draw the line at assuming the nature of somebody's intent when they use certain words, unless it's abundantly clear that they are doing so in a mocking, insulting, or harmful way.

I'm not talking about only intent nor did I say it was used intentionally like that. I said it comes off mockingly and it's a form of appropriation that should have called out much earlier. There's zero reason for like a white dude to switch up to a "black accent" ever.

As for Awkwafina, she went to school with my friends at LaGuardia and Albany and she's from Forest Hills and Stony Brook (which is one of the weirdest areas I've ever been to once you go past Stony Brook University).

It's not really the hood like Jamaica or even Hempstead in Long Island, but I do kind of get her picking it up on it a little just by being in Queens and especially Flushing, which had a huge gang culture back in the days, including Asian gangs.

However, she was using it full-time in acting and adding unnecessary inflections or exaggerations, which is not her just picking it up and didn't sound natural.

I do find it cringy and kind of offensive when non-AAVE speakers use AAVE or code switch to it. Like most of social media nowadays.

Me and several people I know that are just casually into scifi loved it. I honestly thought they'd hate it.

2019/2020 don't affect 2021 taxes unless you carried over a loss or refund.

You can't just assume everything is cool with that amount. You have to know what exactly you're getting it for. Did you apply for the tuition credit?

The W-2 for whatever little you worked an actual job in 2021 will have the amount that was withheld. The surveys will not send a W-2, so that part still doesn't make sense, but even then, that should have the withheld amount as well. Surverys are usually 1099 and are subject to self-employment tax.

This doesn't make sense. If you had no jobs in 2021 and just doing surveys, you don't get a W-2.

And if you have no job, you don't get any refunds. That amount better be the college credit, or you've done something wrong

i think the entire point is to make everything feel essential. ultimately, they are trying to sell subs. but that's only a problem if the story isn't good. and, at least for right now, i have been very entertained. they're exploring a rather soft spot right now in the existing lore, where we have only tiny bits of a near 25 year stretch. by the time it's all over, this might involve dozens of shows, hundreds of episodes. which episode belonging to which show really might not end up being all that important.

Yeah, that's how I'm looking at it after these last 2 episodes. This episode opened up so much just for the future direction of Star Wars. No one is really off-limits and they're taking ideas from the MCU.

I like it. And despite the insane levels of fan service, it's Din and Grogu that has me hooked overall right now tbh. Things like Luke and Boba are just bonuses.

The trailer looks cool and all, but honestly, I have little faith in an actual Halo show no matter what direction they go.

You're right. He was even bigger because the show wasn't some targeted superhero show. Everybody used to watch it and he's referenced all over 80s and 90s media.

Yeah, Iron Man, Cap and Strange were actually extremely popular in the 90s. I remember people went crazy when they showed up in the Spider-Man TAS crossovers. Same with the F4 and Hulk.

Still, Spider-Man and Wolverine (and the X-Men) alone were just another level of popularity back then.

Yes, the story is pretty deep and gets you pretty hard at points. It's like an anime. Probably one of the deepest stories in terms of video games out there.
