Let's be real, when it comes to universally loved games with wide appeal on the N64 (and excluding the Rare games because licensing), you probably get:

• SM64
• MK64
• Star Fox 64
• OoT
• Majora's Mask
• SSB
• Star Wars Rogue Squadron
• Paper Mario
• Maybe some of the Mario Party/Sports Games

So assuming the average player wants all of those games, at a $10 price point, you're looking at $80 all in. Not getting the subscription pays for itself in less than a year and a half

Agreed 100%, they need to increase tax rates and capital gains taxes at the upper end, but this is a political failure that started with the Reagan era "trickle down" Reaganomics. If everyone makes more money, the price of everything will go up in equal measure because most businesses can't eat the increased labour cost and keep running. This is similar to all the "TAX UNREALIZED GAINS" arguments recently where people just have no concept of what money is or what stocks are. The argument here should be that the ultra rich should be taxed at a higher rate. Increase capital gains taxes over a certain threshold, increase taxes on luxory goods, increase income taxes over a certain threshold. I don't understand how people think taxing unrealized gains makes any sense.

Referring to the moron at CNN first claiming that 2% of Musk's net worth (~$6 billion) could solve world hunger (which he later walked back to "could feed 42 million people). Do people actually believe this, neglecting to consider the fact that Musk's net worth is almost entirely in Tesla stock that he can't just magically liquidate without tanking the stock price?

Even if we take this at face value, $6 billion / 42 million is around $142 per person. If you ignore any administrative or logistical costs, and assume you can feed a person in the third world for $0.70/day (a number people have thrown around before), this would only feed these people for around 200 days.

Besides the fact that noone on the internet apparantly understands the concepts of non-liquid assets, and how you can't tax unrealized gains, is this recent trend of people shitting on Musk/Bezos an actual criticism of their wealth, or are these people just jealous that they are stuck working at McDonalds instead of revolutionizing science and technology fields?

90% of the time, I find subscription services to be a borderline scam, and this is no exception. They're delivering less than what they offered on the Wii VC, for more than the cost that any reasonable person would play for the games they would actually play.

Youngkin doing so well is so disappointing, but not surprising. Virginia was still once part of the confederacy, and you can still see confederate flags flying. Youngkin has gone back to the dog-whistles of old, rather than outright racism of Trump. People are comfortable with that. It's why so many people are outraged by "CRT", despite being unable to define what the hell CRT is. It's a dog whistle, and it's effective. Because a lot of the racism in this country is underlying prejudices that we don't want to confront in ourselves. So instead we let them fester and grow. And then we become susceptible to dog whistles, even if we outright reject the obvious racism. And the Subtle racism is just as much of a problem as the overt. But admitting that -- that's the hard part.

People in Virginia are fairly poor, and a lot of them work in industries that don't have very good future prospects (i.e. coal). They reject CRT because the implication that being white is an inherited advantage doesn't make sense in a state that is predominantly white and predominantly poor. Is it really that hard to understand why poor people that are being told they are racist colonizers benefiting from systemic racism reject that claim?

CRT is basically an extension of racism if you look at it from their perspective.

You're looking at it too short term. It's not about what's deserved, it's about what's better for the society.
Most people aren't going to make this point, but if McDonald's workers make 30/hour, that'll prompt mcdonald's to make more automated serving machines and stuff. Raising wages will cause technology to shift to replacing more jobs, which is way better than the useless shit billionaries spend their money on. The more technology takes jobs away, the less we even have to talk about this old-ass concept where every person must be working on something stupid.

People should be contributing to society, if they want to benefit from the things that society gives them (infrastructure, technology, security, social assistance). The problem with automation, is what will all the people working in low skilled jobs do after they lose their low skilled jobs? If you say some sort of UBI where people get money to sit at home and do nothing, what is the incentive for people to strive for getting into a more skilled career? You could make UBI the bare minimum to pay for food/shelter, but then those people would complain because they don't have a big screen TV, or the newest iPhone, while people that are working for a living are enjoying those benefits. Nothing is solved here.

There are probably only 21 N64 games worth playing. The N64 was very top heavy, in that it had some really great games, but there's a VERY steep drop off in quality from the A tier to the B tier.

The best part about this entire thing, is this is a problem Nintendo solved literally 15 years ago with the Wii Virtual Console. Instead of trying to scam people with yet another bullshit subscription service, why not just offer the games for sale for a reasonable price? It's absolutely mind boggling how they have managed to ruin an innovative and successful business model just through sheer ignorance and stupidity.

Don't get me wrong, wage stagnation is a problem, and minimum wage has not grown with the rate of inflation in either the US/Canada, and it is hilarious to see market forces at work with companies having to offer more money in order to attract employees. My post was more a comment on the specific group of uneducated slobs on Reddit that think flipping a burger is some sort of skilled trade that deserves $30/hour or something, rather than a job for high schoolers and retirees.

Also, while the government has announced they're rolling out booster shots eventually, I believe right now they're only being given to the highest risk populations, although at the rates of infections we're seeing now, in addition to kids 5-12 being approved any day now, I wouldn't be surprised if the boosters aren't needed in the long run.

Abby was really good when she was covering games and always gave new games a fair shake. BT is absolutely wrong. She played more new games than Brad did most of the time. There were some gaps in her general gaming knowledge, though, especially with older stuff. Never having heard of Konami was a particularly egregious example. Something I'd always hear her say on the Beastcast was "What's [insert very common pop culture/gaming subject]". While there's nothing wrong with being curious, the way she would say things sometimes came off as clueless. I liked Abby, but I can understand why some people didn't.

A general lack of gaming knowledge is something I've been noticing a lot lately. The latest State of Play talkover was a good example. Like when you see the Tri-Ace logo followed by a space ship, it should be pretty obvious it's a new Star Ocean. Nobody recognized any of the games despite most of them being previously announced in prior events. I get that not everyone is Jeff Gerstmann, but I expect Giant Bomb to be a little more savvy.

Did you listen to a single Beastcast between 2019-2021? I don't know whether she just got bored of pretending to like video games or what, but literally every fucking week "Hey Abby, what have you been playing?" "Ohhh not really playing much now but I bought a really cool hot dog costume in Fortnite"

Based on 1-3, this will be a hard pass for me. These ports are so fucking half-assed it's unreal. It blows my mind that they don't just have a modern version of the GBA ports, with the sound and graphics cleaned up. The GBA games are still the definitive versions as far as I'm concerned.

Abby played barely any games, besides Nancy Drew and Fortnite, for the last 2 years she worked there. And before that, the only games she played were stupid porno "visual novel" games that she tried to railroad into fucking GotY every year, despite "not spending much time" with literally every other game in the top 10 discussion.

Then there's the fact that when she actually does play the occasional game, the only commentary she made on it was that it was either "cohesive" or "lacks cohesion", as if she read a word of the day calendar.

Abby is easily the worst staff member GB has ever had, and it has nothing to do with her genitalia. They should have brought Mary Kish in if they really needed to tick that box.

Anyone else a bit alarmed that it seems like there are events from the second/third book already being shown in the S1 trailer? I know 14 books is a lot, but you think they would keep the narrative structure similar until at least book 4/5 (and then just pretend that books 6-9 never happened)

Just got back from watching Dune in theater, it was great. Theater was pretty much empty. Movie was fantastic, my one beef is the needless diversity hire decision to make Kynes a black woman, which makes absolutely no sense. At this point I guess I have to just accept that Hollywood will always spit on source material in order to score woke brownie points, while doing absolutely nothing to address the actual problems facing women and minorities. But this gives idiots on Twitter a reason to like the movie that doesn't involve having to pay attention to or appreciate the plot, acting and production, so I can see why they do it.

Beautifully shot movie though, and they handled the source material well for the most part
