Eeyup. I know people are kind of hesitant to criticize Israel because Jewish people have such a history of being persecuted, but there's a very clear distinction between saying "Israel should stop committing genocide" and actually hating Jewish people.

It is pretty sus to call Isreal's actions genocide but palestines several times more bombings not though.

Last Fridays Anderson Cooper 360, the anchor noted the video Cruz retweeted allegedly originated on a Far Right dark web site. He also called out the senator for suggesting future soldiers will be turned into pansies by the media and Democrat politicians.

I'm bi and also use gay as a slur, so idk enough here to determine if what he said even was homophobic. It does seem weird to be putting gay couples in to army advertising though, what with it having nothing to do with the job.

Not really true, it's just that now if someone has a passion and is known, sponsors will make them wealthy too by spreading their passion. You don't have to be a starving artist now as there's more than enough corporate money to go around.

Breathalyzer locks have been a thing for a while. They prevent the start-up of a car, not force it to shutdown.

It is still a figure that's worth reporting, though, since it indicates how much capacity hospitals need for covid-positive patients (which includes stricter PPE protocols, isolation from other areas, and several other accommodations).

It's a figure worth reporting to the government, not the people. Thing is it's sent to the general public who have no stake in hospital throughput as long as their hospital is not full.

Long term, yes. Short term, no. Short term can kill it off entirely, then intelligent monitoring stops further entry from countries that don't bother.

Even the countries that are doing this best don't have 100% vaccination rate, nor the persistent case rate of zero that would be needed to really ensure no domestic variants would ever emerge. The risk is dramatically lower when you don't have hundreds of thousands of cases every day, but you can never completely eliminate.

You absolutely can eliminate it entirely, problem is nowhere has the balls to be strict enough about it.

Restricting travel to vaccinated people isn't going to keep vaccine-avoidant strains from proliferating. The strains are more likely to pop up among the unvaccinated, yes (that's just how probability goes), but can still be carried across borders by any vaccinated people that pick them up.

Didn't say it did, it does stop the current ones though, and if the border is properly monitored, you'd know if someone is carrying a new strain which they aren't vaccinated for and can stop them before they spread it.

People who aren't vaccinated at all are a self-flagging hazard you can easily blanket ban, which gives ports more time to handle reduced throughput.

Mutations only happen at all because of people who carry existing viruses and give it means to develop, if all variants inland are vaccinated for, you don't have any hosts to allow variant creation. The ports being thoroughly monitored ensures they never come in and can die in the host country with insufficient vaccination.

Sure, just not one sizeable enough to do anything.

You can't create a vaccine against a strain you did not know about at the time, so no, nobody vaccinated against Omicron brought it in to the United States. But like I said before, control your borders and you won't have these issues.

Yes closing borders and waiting till it is over in the rest of the world could be efficient, but it would definitely be inhumane.

There's no human right to travel, and by blocking poor vaccination areas from travelling makes controlling their spread easier to manage too (as they aren't bringing it in either). Donating vaccines similarly is more effective in an area that's less able to cultivate it.

That is the case because the anti-vaxxers kept the virus to mutate. When the anti-vaxxers die, the mentally well people can isolate for a couple weeks and come out to a clean world.

I think you're grossly overestimating the intelligence (or at least the scientific literacy) of the average human. The majority opinion of laypersons means pretty much nothing as far as a given scientific conclusion's validity goes.

That's why I said "you present your data".

The scientists did not, they just went "We believe it because it goes with our research so you should believe us. What's our research? Oh no you're too stupid to get it, so I won't bother to explain, just trust my authority."

Fortunately the majority of people have enough scientific literacy or faith in authority to accept it without all the data given.

The scientific method boils down to "maybe this is true, let's all try to disprove it and we'll accept it as being a more likely explanation than others if we can't."

Any scientist remotely competent enough to get the qualifications is aware that if they fail to refute it, it is the most accurate answer available at that time, it's bad science to go "I don't have sufficient data to refute the facts, but I choose to disagree despite that."

Science doesn't actually give you true information. It just gives you information that nobody can prove isn't true. In practice, those are similar enough for laypersons to ignore the distinction, but it's a very important philosophical difference that needs to be considered in critically appraising any given scientific work. Most notably, if a published paper seems to be trying to prove their hypothesis right instead of trying and failing to prove it wrong, that's a glaring methodological problem that indicates there's probably quite a bit of bias in there.

That's what peer review is for, and peer review has shown nobody has a sufficient proof.

The distinction is not meaningful for public acceptance as the goal isn't to be as accurate as possible when you eventually make a conclusion, it's to have an answer at this moment that is as accurate as current data can discern, and change as and when new data appears.
