also, another detail that demands analysis: is the wage growth driving the CPI rise, or is the CPI rise driving the wage growth?

https://www.bls.gov/news.release/eci.nr0.htm
https://www.bls.gov/news.release/cpi.nr0.htm

https://www.bls.gov/charts/consumer-price-index/consumer-price-index-by-category-line-chart.htm
(from drop-down, select 20 year history which is second option)
https://www.bls.gov/charts/employment-cost-index/compensation-in-private-industry-and-state-and-local-government-3-month-percent-change.htm#

to my eye, the CPI is leading the employment cost, not the other way around. this makes more sense: supply chain interruption causes products to get more expensive for all producers, which causes employees to view their salary as less worthwhile and demand more, and employers exhibit a delayed reaction to that demand

wage growth should not have this same impact, because wage increases impact future employee cost at a rate unique to each employer, and it has no impact on trailing employee costs for a given FY. companies don't just unilaterally raise product prices the second their wage costs go up (that's how you get undercut and run out of business)--they always set prices to what the market will support.

but they DO raise their prices the second their basic material costs go up, because that impacts all of their competition at the same time

so do you guys think a sustained 7% inflation rate is desirable, or do you disagree with the economists?

Yes/no answers, that is literally the dichotomy here

if paired with a sustained 8% wage increase rate, yes, compared to a sustained 1% inflation rate paired with a sustained 0% wage increase rate

what matters--what we know how to track, what we have tracked, and what BoA economists are not talking about--is the relative delta between wage increases and the prices of goods.

what we are seeing now is inflationary growth in all sectors, but faster inflationary growth of wages.

i'm referring to having SCOTUS already, and then winning both houses in the legislative branch potentially in the 2022 midterms (as the second of 3 branches). and then potentially winning the 3rd in 2024 elections, which I feel is sadly not out of reach

i think your assumption that dems are dead meat in the midterms is misplaced, SCOTUS isn't the entire judicial branch, and taking the presidency is really not something we should be assuming for the GOP with any immediacy

2 of the 3 branches? are you counting house and senate as branches? that's one branch. they control the SCOTUS, but not the lower courts, where biden has been quite successful in appointing judges. far more so than trump was, although he has much ground to make up.

also current redistricting does not look to favor GOP, and their clamp down on voting rights is mostly in states that send 2 GOP senators and all but 1 GOP rep as is.

but the reason they've got so much power is that they have already totally consolidated power on state levels to the point that those states are single-party in effect

their path to the presidency is harder; trump achieved an upset that was statistically unlikely but not impossible, and all presidential elections in the future will be the same

The one silver lining to Republicans coming to power again is that maybe they'll do so much damage that everybody finally realizes what a dire state our country is in.

except the biggest part of the damage they do now is consolidating power in their own hands

when the state legislature changes voting districts not only to make sure the state only elects republicans to national government but also changes those same districts to make sure it only elects them to state government, what emerges is tyranny of the minority

my concern with oil is simply that burning it at the rates we do is ending the holocene epoch and the subsequent droughts and famines will result in much more war in the future

it started not long after some financial journalists started writing about the art market, and how many wealthy investors own art pieces not for display but strictly as alternative investments equivalent to gold/silver

most are traded with crypto which helps keep the illiquidity and pump-dump nature of them unclear because crypto itself has such massive price fluctuation

it's built upon the lie that the art trade is a relevant fraction of the global stock markets in total capitalization. it is not. alternatives are not a big part of most wealthy people's asset pools; almost never >10%, and usually between 1 and 5 percent, as that's the size of the actual alternatives markets relative to publicly traded stock.

TopicIs 2 weeks notice necessary when quitting?
Sackgurl
01/11/22 10:20:46 PM
#116
the biggest reason why it's not necessary is you don't leave job A until job B has made an offer

at which point they've contacted any references you might have listed

which would be the job you had before job A, not your manager at job A.

if you left that job without two weeks' notice, but were on good terms with your manager, they're not going to screw you over years later. any negative feelings over the exit would have cooled, and if you're a good employee, they're not going to lie.

there's also another reason not to do it, if you're not on good terms with your management (ie, if they're not going to be a reference anyway): the alternative to "fired immediately" is "worked to the bone for those final two weeks"

believe me, that is worse.

what do you supposed the rate will be for this guy with 300 billion?

probably also 0.87%, because otherwise the bank would be losing money relative to letting the customer sell their assets

typically management fees are around 1% of a portfolio's value, so i am honestly quite surprised they drop it even this far. there's always a "gold" level where further assets do not improve services/loan rates further

but remember also that stock in their own company is likely not being managed by these banks (there's no reason to pay 1% to someone to do nothing!), and tends to comprise the bulk of the wealth of these super-rich company founders

they've diversified, and have huge portfolios that DO require management, and still probably are hitting those super low rates, but i'm not sure i buy the idea that they're actually paying zero percent interest

granted, in the current inflationary environment, taking a loan at 1% and letting it sit there is a net loss to the lender already

It is literally income.
The part that tricks people is that they still pay some teeny teeny tiny interest.
But you have to realize that what interest they pay is FUNDAMENTALLY tiny compared to the tax rate so..... why give it any mind?

could you source this (the interest rate)?

i would assume it'd be pegged to financial commercial paper interest rates, which are very much not at that level
