Problem was the new crew didnt have that much screen time

neither did the old crew
the cast was really bloated and trying to give a lot of characters screen time ended up with only sam and tara getting enough

but it was fine. everyone was likable enough and the legacy characters all had several other movies to be focused on

the new characters were mostly ok
but there was no real stand outs

no one is going to become a massive fan favorite like kirby from scream 4

best part of scream 5 was a blink and you'll miss it moment that confirms kirby survived her attack in scream 4

willing suspension of disbelief. laurie metcalf and emma roberts arent exactly physically intimidating women but we bought them as ghost face just fine

and dewey wasnt exactly a healthy 50 year old man. he had put on a bit of weight and had a drinking problem which probably hurt his reaction time.
and after 30 each year a mans body just gets weaker and weaker so scream 5 dewey is inferior to scream dewey from the 90s form a physical point of view.

and IIRC he even mentions that the 9 stab wounds he got over the years alongside constant drinking have really limited what he could do and was one of the reasons he was asked to step down as sheriff

I called Amber immediately.
The moment she first appeared with rest of the friend group, her over-protectiveness with the younger sister/hostility towards the older sister at the start, the fact that she was being recorded in the opening, and that scene with Mindy in the basement where they tried to throw us off.
I knew she would be one of the killers and nothing was going to change my mind.

And for some stupid reason, I was expecting Stu/Matthew Lillard to make a surprise appearance and be the other killer. I was wrong on that one.

i had a different take on amber i actually thought it was gonna be revealed that her and tara were a couple hence the overprotectivness

i just really love the scream franchise

i called the dewey thing from the trailers so i was prepared for it

cant recommend it enough

im surprised at how much the original 3 have aged especially since they didnt seem to have aged to badly in scream 4 but that was over 10 years ago and over 20 years since scream 3

i was worried they wouldnt have anything to comment on

scream was a commentary on slasher movies
scream 2 was a commentary on sequels
scream 3 was a commentary on trilogies
scream 4 was a commentary on reboots

scream 5 ended up being a commentary on this requels like halloween 2018 or star wars where they have new casts and lead characters but supported by old legacy characters

Out of curiosity, because I know the series has a weird continuity, is this new movie directly related to the previous ones? I can't remember the exact breakdown, but I seem to recall that the first couple were one continuity and then one of the later movies made the original ones "in universe" movies and then I lost track from there.

all the scream films are connected
there is no alternate continuity
there is an in universe movie based off of sidney prescotts life that has 8 installments but since sidney was only attacked by ghostface 4 times most of the movies just made stuff up but thats a meta joke about slasher sequels

a character from scream 4 appears in scream 5
deputy judy
sidney gale and dewey are in all 5 movies

now we just gotta wait 10 years for scream 6

as of right now id rank them

scream > scream 2 > scream 5 > scream 4 > scream 3

i like all 5 movies though
and yes the tv show is really good as well. but its third season was awful

oh and the handsome detective from scream 3 who seemed to have a thing for sidney is mentioned in scream 5
turns out him and sidney got married and had kids

they brought back deputy judy and killed her off which i felt should have happened in scream 4
no idea why this character survived the 4th film.

and when someone is watching youtube one of the little tabs on the side says something like "interview with woodsboro survivor kirby reed" which finally confirms that the fan favorite kirby character from part 4 survived her apparent death scene like wes craven wanted her to before harvey wiensten cut mentions of her surviving out of the script

My headcanon is that she had him when she was 14
He is 15 now making her only 29 which explains her young looks

Yeah she looks way to young to be his mother
But she is like the best character in the game

Grandia 3 has an amazing disk 1
The problem is its a 2 disk long game and I've never seen such a drop In quality between disks
Plotlines suddenly got rushed or forgotten. Character interactions feel less genuine
Even the humor feels more forced

it has some good scenes and its cast is great.

the second movie is worse. but i find it more enjoyable. like this is the fun kind of bad

yes scream was a meta breakdown of the slasher subgenre as wes craven didnt think there was anything left to do with the genre so he created a movie that broke down all the tropes and cliches and mocked them

but in such a subtle way it could also be watched as a straight forward slasher film
he created scream to kill the genre once and for all but ended up breathing in new life to it for awhile.

i got modded for a topic about the scream series when it was airing
for most of season 1 the only ones who died were characters credited as recurring
the main cast was left untouched

so late into the season i made a topic titled something like "wow so scream finally decided to kill off a main character SPOILERS!!"

i got modded for spoilers with no warning even though i had a spoiler warning in the topic title.
so i contested the moderation and the mod told me my topic title itself was a spoiler cause it revealed someone died.

but the thing is that scream is a slasher series and characters dying is a major part of the premise so i didnt think what i typed was enough to count as a spoiler
i felt strongly enough to contest the moderation again and the next in line to look over my contest actually agreed with me

saying that in any other context it would be a spoiler with no warning but since it was a slasher show just saying a character dies isnt enough of a spoiler
