One thing though, they do kinda dismiss the fact that Harrison not only slashed at a kid, but lied about it in a pretty manipulative way. The act itself isn't as scary as the coverup, since it implies the similar sociopathic behavior as Dexter. Killing his dad might just take him over the edge.

Yeah the more I think about it, the more I wish Angela would have shot Dex and not make Harrison have more blood on his hands.

Reading around the internet and some folks wanted an Angel/Dexter showdown lol. I would have preferred a Masuka-Dexter myself XD

Seriously who wants that, the idiot side characters of the original series were some of the worst parts. Including Angel scenes this season was pointless, and setting him up as coming to Iron Lake with a big Maria file (that he just happened to keep intact in a desk drawer for 10+ years?) amounted to not much/nothing. Also that terrible exposition of his a few episodes back, hoo boy they couldn't have worked that out to be a bit more organic?

Pretty sure its taken from real life

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Missing_and_murdered_Indigenous_women

Although now that I think about it, it was sort of gross for the show to take a serious phenomenon caused by systemic racism and oppression, and pose the idea that, actually, its not a problem of widespread hate crimes that police departments casually overlook because of white supremacy, its just all the work of one single serial killer.

I'm glad more media and shows are shining attention on the plight of native american people

Also I really like how creepy Dexter's "nice guy" act is, especially when he's acting all goofy but comes off creepy. And when a character starts to suspect Dexter, they see that facade for what it is and are creeped out by it, like Angela was. Or like Doakes was 15 years ago. And then Maria. Oh another added parallel, both Maria and Angela were attracted to Dexter, but by the end hated him and were disgusted by him.

Jennifer Carpenter's performance was the best part of New Blood, imo.

She so perfectly married her own/remembered personality with Dexter's subconscious and personality. Just about the best acting I've seen on Dexter, if you see what they're doing.

Getting their dynamic right even after 8 years is pretty impressive. The actors were also married in real life at one point, are you referring to that?

No I'm petty sure the whole reason was the thing where he was a serial killer and almost got caught and had to start over with a new identity.

Also if he was so desperate to stay away from Harrison that he was already thinking he should die there were about a thousand more sensible ways to either get away from Harrison, die without involving Harrison, or run Harrison off from the moment he showed up.

The "you know what 5 minutes ago everything was different but now you should totes shoot me son" was dumb as it gets.

What do you think Harry and now Debra's "ghosts" represent to Dexter?

Lol you know what I liked? In season 8 there was this plot line with the therapist and new young Dexter-in-training who Dexter took under his wing as his protege serial killer, and they were all one big happy family for a while. I wonder if they could have done something there, like Harrison being jealous of this guy and their new mentor, almost fatherly relationship between Dexter and the dude. Or I dunno something.

What I actually liked about this show is that Dexter was so excited to show Harrison his psychopathy, and he basically unloaded everything at him...and it caused Harrison to throw up. You roll your eyes thinking it's going to be the typical "Dexter and sons" serial killer fare but nope, that was too much for Harrison. I liked that.

As a followup to the ridiculous season 8 (nothing in that season remotely bothers me compared to Dexter dropping his kid off at this woman he once slept with and her being "ok sure, I'll take care of this 5 year old that the guy I had been seeing for a couple weeks threw on me and then drove off" without any qualms) it actually did the best it could.

Damn. 10 years later, and my boy Doakes's legacy is still ruined thanks to a lie.

It was never believable even in season 2. Dexter writers have a habit of blowing their load early and then leaving the next writers scrambling picking up the pieces. Getting rid of best character Doakes as early as season 2 was crazy. And Dexter's murders being discovered that quickly only for the show to continue on for 6 more seasons was also crazy.

And then more stuff like that happening. Killing off Rita and no one bats an eye at why ever would Trinity killer target Dexter was crazy, and getting rid of her has ramifications that the show also doesn't really explore.

Feels like they could have done some good parallels between Kurt and his son as a foil to Dexter and his son, but they were just missing that extra oomph to stick the landing. Kurt was certainly not that broken up about his son's death, although his quest for revenge against Dexter probably drove him for a while in place of his grief.

I still enjoyed the season overall but they had a golden opportunity to avoid all this stuff:

The ending was such a dud because it felt like nothing got resolved, and everything intriguing about the season just got tossed out the window. It made everything, all the mistakes, dropped plots, etc. retroactively worse.

What wasn't resolved? The police found the bodies of the missing ladies. Cop lady found her best friend Iris after so many years

Well at least it's not as bad as complaining "how did Angela find them so fast"

Although it would have been better if she did find them first, if Harrison didn't shoot him since carrying around that guilt of shooting and killing his dad or whatever might also fuck him up, which is the entire point of the show. If Angela had just gotten there and finally caught that SoB, it would have been a nice win.

What the hell is everyone talking about, it was actually good. Finally, Finally, Dexter gets called out on what an asshole (not to mention psycho killer) he is.

Oh the season has several missteps as per standard Dexter fare and pointless subplots, but at least he finally got caught. I didn't like Harrison killing him only because I wanted Dexter to finally face a courtroom and get sentenced, but ah well.

Also how did Kurt Caldwell capture Jamie Chung's character and kill her, he no longer had the element of surprise and he's a big man to be able to capture a girl in plain sight.
