Science can't answer the most important question: what happens to our consciousness after we die?

Neither can religion. You just put it on faith that what you are told through your sect, is what happens.

Look at all the different mythologies (basically just dead religions), cults (basically just religions with low life expectancy) and religions and look at their description of death and afterlife. How come you just believe in your religions version of the afterlife?

What makes you think you are right, in all those options? Sounds like arrogance to me.

Science is honest. It says we don't know and we will probably never know.

A friend of mine who is a nurse didn't get her period after the second vaccine, i think. It took some time, but it's back now.

Her doctor told her that it was because of the vaccine, but she had also lost some weight during that period, which I thought was more likely to be the cause. Her doctor was sure it was the vaccine, though.

I checked some studies from the british medical journal and there seems to have been a lot of reports about period irregularities with the vaccines. They didn't conclude with anything.

One of the problems with the anti-vax movement, is that real stuff shows up, a lot of people will just dismiss it because of the craziness of anti-vax people.

To me it seems like this is one of those cases where there seems to be something to be aware of, but i might be biased because it affected a friend of mine.

Has his views changed that much? I haven't listened to him since he switched to spotify. Or has he just been challenged more from the far left, so it makes it look like he is more right?

Has he said he is against any of the stuff he is for in that video?

A buddy of mine was accused of being a pedophile because he apparently made a move on a 16 year old when he was 25. The age of consent is 16, so he wasn't breaking the law or anything and he was really hurt by those accusations.

I wasn't there, so I had no idea what happened, but I heard the accusations and noticed how he reacted to them.

I guess I have become a little a little technical on the definitions because of this, but the term ephebephile is new to me.

I guess I think that age of consent should be leading, but i know that there are some countries where it's disturbingly low, so that kinda ruins my point for those countries. And perhaps people think 16 is disturbingly low as well, but there are other laws to protect younger people (abuse of power etc)

The problem is that I think that someone who does something to small kids is the lowest scum on earth and even though i recognize that it probably is a sickness, the gloves comes off right when that person acts on those feelings towards a kid instead of seeking help.

I don't judge someone who had consenting sex with someone age inappropriate, but over the age of consent, as harshly.

The thing nobody wants to admit is that very few large scale, positive change was enacted solely by nice, civil people sitting at a table and hashing things out. There's a place for that, obviously, but there's also a place for hatred and fucking shit up.

Unrelated to Joe Rogan, but to simplify the point with an example: Hating nazis is okay.

Like, peace-loving moderates like to point to MLK and be like "see! Non-violence is the answer!" Completely ignoring the fact we had to fight one of our country's bloodiest wars just to even get to that point.

Most stuff breaks down when you push it towards its limits. Context is important and Trevor Noah explains this fairly well. I just find it to be a nice general sentiment to have when having a discussion with someone.

Hating real Nazis is something i encourage, but calling someone a nazi because they are not completely aligned to your moral compass isn't.

From what I've heard, you get used to the speed very fast. Like, if you just take a break and then get back behind the wheel, the same speed will feel a lot less scary.

I took my old toyota up to about 160km/h once and the whole car was shaking so much i didn't dare anymore (like 14 years ago, never had the need to speed like that again, haha)

Heya guys. I'm looking for the name of a game i remember playing like 15-20 years ago

It was new at the time, so I'm guessing it came out late 90s or early 2000s.

I just remember some small stuff, but I'm hoping you can guide me to the name:

  • The game was 3rd person. When using a sniper rifle you would look through the scope. Not sure if you could also play it in 1st person, I remember it being 3rd person
  • The game was trying to be realistic. Enemies could see you far away if you weren't careful and you could die by getting shot once
  • In one of the missions you were placed away from a mansion in the desert. I remember the person you played as had a greyish/beige desert uniform and I was always killed before I managed to get to the mansion.
  • You could crawl on the ground and it took a long time to move this way, but if you lost your patience and stood up, the enemies would kill you right away

I think the game had a name that is similar to a military chopper or fighter jet, but this might just be a mission name or something.

Any suggestions what it might be?

Basically, if you're unable to function even enough to handle a glass of water and eating a small meal from the pain, feel free to use the surgery grade stuff. But if you think you could manage with ibuprofen, go ahead and try. Basically I ended up being able to sleep with them to keep the pain down but could manage during the day with ibuprofen, and then after another day or two just swapped entirely to ibuprofen and then called it good during the daytime, opting to use an ice pack or whatever and being sure to hydrate.

Just because they give you enough that you can take them twice a day for a week doesn't mean you need to stay on them that long.

I'm told not to use too much ibuprofen, but that it should be taken alongside the other painkillers.

It looks like my plan says twice a day for three days, then once a day for the rest of the week

Those are excellent points, but it's the lack of feeling some kind of high that made me wonder how it's easy to get addicted.

As you can see on the post above i don't exceed the plan from the hospital, so I don't think it will be a problem. I just want to know about the pitfalls. I too struggled with alcohol and wish i was more aware during the time i was just partying in my youth

This is why I want to know more. I'm still early in using them and it's just two days since the surgery. I haven't used more than the scheduled plan from the hospital, but what has made me worry a little is that the pain has increased from yesterday to day.

I will call the hospital if i feel i need to exceed the plan, but at the moment i only use 1 pill whenever the schedule says 1-2 pills, so I'm thinking about staying on the safe side and just deal with the extra pain

So it's actually the need to get rid of the pain that is the addiction? That sounds awful!

I always imagined that pain killers gave you some kind of good feeling, not just the lack of bad feelings.

I can understand how it's easy to get addicted to if it's something that you don't chase to get some buzz.

I'll be careful!

No time seems to be a little optimistic, haha. It looks to be a 9-12 month plan for the leg to be used normally again. I'm very positive, though! I have decided to be good at following the PTs advice and schedule.

Before the surgery i was told that i had lost a lot of muscle mass in my right leg, probably because of my brain had started to shift a lot of the work over to the left, to avoid pain. I used three months to train my leg back up in strength and the PT was impressed with how serious i took the training and got the muscle mass back, so he gave me the option for surgery when the muscles not being enough to keep the knee stable enough, even in low pressure situations in the wrong angle

So I'm using painkillers to get through the pain of post surgery and in my topic about my surgery some users advised me to wean off the pain killers as soon as possible.

First day after surgery I had very little pain, but i just followed the scheduled pain killer plan anyways. In the evening i started feeling some pain, so i took a paracetamol and went to bed.

Second day is today and i woke up in pain and needed to take one of the pills that can be used to handle the break through pain in between the pills that should only be taken two times a day.

I wonder how it feels to be addicted to pain killers. Do you just feel pain and you feel you need the pills to get rid of it?

None of the pills I have makes me feel any kind of buzz, but I want to make sure I don't get some addiction or anything, without even knowing it.
