I did really miss the soap opera aspect in the later stuff but I dealt with it. Just know that S1&2 have their own tone, the movie has its own tone, and S3 has its own tone. If you go into them not expecting more of the show then you'll be fine.

I guess I'll see. I might just take a break from the series after season 2 though.

I'll be honest and say I didn't really like S3 for the exact reason you stated. Don't get me wrong, I could tell it was a masterpiece if you liked full-blown David Lynch, but I quickly realized I don't. I liked it a lot better when he was reigned in by the network.

Then the network overdid it in S2 and it nosedived a bit but hey.

I know I didnt like Mulholland Dr when I watched it. Thats actually what kept me away from Twin Peaks for so long.

There will be recency bias for PB but those others are all time shows.

I added it because it seems like the most well received recent show. I could be wrong on that since I havent paid much attention.

Its Japan only but it recently got an English patch. It's definitely a very forward thinking game.

Tbh it's most likely that the movie and Return is how Lunch and Frost originally envisioned the series but was limited to networks at the time about what content they could create.

Probably true, though maybe to some degree for the best. Seems like the series got screwed with the nosedive but I dont think itd be as good as a pure wtf show. Then again for pure wtf insanity I'm more team Jodorowsky than Lynch.

Yeah it's shocking it came out a full year before Shenmue. It's fun to drive the car. I remember the game glitched one time and everything was gone except the car and I was able to make the car do barrel rolls, it was insane!

Haha that sounds amazing. Yeah I think they were really pushing the ps1 with that game.

Yeah S1&2 are the only ones with the soap opera quality to it. The movie is like half soap opera half wtf. The S3 is all wtf.

Honestly sounds like itll be so different it loses me. Not that I mind wtf stuff but I like this for being a supernatural mystery with fun quirky characters.

The game finally got an english patch not that long ago! I haven't played much of the game yet, but the gameplay reminds me heavily of Shenmue.

I've only played a bit but yeah heavy Shenmue vibes. Also love that car.

Finally started this classic series and I've really gotten into it but what I've heard about a drop in quality for a good chunk of the show worries me.

Better Call Saul is great. It's a better planned show, while BB is more inspired. So while it doesn't usually reach the intensity/suspense of Breaking Bad, it stays more interesting throughout. A lot of people like it more.

Yeah again this just sounds more my thing.

And I think you will end up liking Better Call Saul quite a bit if you crave more character drama and attachment.

Yeah I liked BB but I do think I'll like Better Call Saul more, plus again I just really liked Saul as a character.

Its one of the best shows ever created but Im with you on its lack of rewatchability. Ive tried it a couple times and never get past a few episodes.

BCS on the other hand Ive rewatched each season as the new one comes out (so not a full rewatch of the series but still). Its much more character driven. I feel cozy rewatching episodes.

I think rewatching BB would be especially hard since those first two seasons arent the strongest. But in generally I feel like none of it would have that same impact on rewatch.

Show had its ups and downs. It could fantastic at times with me on the edge of my seat, but it could also really drag at times. I feel like the suspense was stronger than the character drama. It had some good even great characters but I dont think I felt too attached to most of them. Best part for me was the second half of season 4, the episode where Fring was killed being my favorite.

That said it was worth watching but I'd never wanna watch it again. More than anything what kept me going was the suspense and wondering where things were headed. I think overall it's definitely overhyped but there were moments where it lived up to that hype. By the end though I was just ready for it to be over.

Still interested in Better Call Saul. Honestly the most entertaining character and he had so many great lines. Also liked Badger and Skinny Pete as comic relief because they remind me a lot of actual friends I had.

One thing that really bugs me, why did Mike only restrain Walter by one hand? Seemed very careless for someone so cautious and thorough.

It's always weird to me how this game is so highly praised despite the main thing I hear about it being how its rushed and the second disk is a mess.

I really don't like Better Call Saul that much. The criminal stuff is good, but the constant lawyer drama is really dry and slow. Breaking Bad is a better show with better pacing.

I feel like the pacing in BB switches from really good to really bad.

Man after being engaged throughout season 3 I was surprised how bored I was with Season 4... at first. Like the first half of the season I honestly felt kinda dragged like it had occasional great moments but over I just didnt feel engaged anymore.

The second half of season 4 was masterful, I mean literally from the halfway point in the 7th episode I was hooked and just damn. The finale especially. I do admit a certain use of cgi was a bit jarring but I'll let it pass.

yes provided you're okay with saul not always being in the spotlight like walt and jesse are for BB. BCS will revolve heavily around 2 other characters outside of saul and his partner.

It depends if those other characters are interesting or engaging to watch. I mean I dont really feel like Walt and Jess are constantly in the spotlight anyway. Theres Walts wife and Hank.

Honestly yeah that sounds like more my thing tbh. I dont mind slow pace as long as it's an engaging slow pace. I just dont like it when I feel like a show is wasting my time.

The problem with these shows is there's too much filler.

I'm not sure if filler is the word I'd use for Breaking bad. I'd say some sub plots feel padded or drawn out?

Real slow at first. Like the first 3 seasons not much happens. But when it picks up it picks up.

I'm in the middle of Breaking Bad season 4 and my overall feelings are a bit mixed but I do like the show. I do think Saul is the most fun character so a show about him sounds like itd be even better tbh.

It's not a perfect show, but the consensus is it ramps up appropriately throughout the entire show. It's definitely up there.

And it's spinoff, Better Call Saul, is widely considered to be just as good, many prefer it even.

Saul is a really fun character. I can see why he got a spin off.

First two seasons I just felt this show is good, but it's not THAT good. I'm now on Season 3 though and I feel more engaged and more often on the edge ed of my seat.
