If I'm thinking of the right game, there's a pretty long demo for this game that I played several years ago.

It was, uh....not good.

There's a threshold for jRPS on PSN/XBL in my experience: they can be great all the way down to $8, stuff like Berseria and and Hack//GU hits this price fairly regularly. Once you hit $6 though, you're getting your Valkyria Revolutions and Fairy Fencer Fs.

Mass Effect 3 should get special mention because the actual marketing team had a major focus on telling people they could start there.

Buying this is a bad idea if you haven't played the game - doing the free trial first is ideal, since it gives you a huge portion of the game with no subscription fee.

To point something else out that really only relates to people who know MMOs but not XIV: If you decide to take a break and unsubscribe, the game does not punish you. In games like WoW if you stop playing for a couple weeks your fucked. Here you could take a break for months, or unsubcribe after finishing the story until the next story latch drops, and there's really no negative. It's even encouraged by the director.

The only thing of note is that if you own a house in the game and are unsubcribe for...I forget the exact amount, 3 months? You lose your house. I have 1500 hours in this game and no house to show for it anyways, so not something I would put much worry into either.

I didn't care when I was new, but I was completely unable to handle actually knowing stuff when people were asking for help and having to navigate through the digital key lard for 3 minutes to tell them what order to kill King Moogle Mog's Minions in or things of that ilk.

Also I don't think calling it the best FF story is an exaggeration. I also don't think it's has a ton of competition on that front though!

I do genuinely adore the story of this game once you get past ARR, primarily once you hit Shadowbringers and beyond. To clarify I do think the characters shine more than the actual story, so if you want to get technical I think it has the best CHARACTERS of any Final Fantasy game.

I cried a whole lot playing this, and I certainly haven't done that for any other FF!

Now if you want to get a lot less subjective, I think you'd have to be a lunatic to say this doesn't have the best FF soundtrack.

Game is very good with controller but I would def spend some time customizing your layout and learning the shortcuts. I changed a lot of stuff multiple times over the course of a few hundred hours before settling. Once you decide to go leveling new jobs (or more specifically new roles), you'll want to have different UI layout to swap to depending on whether your playing DPS, Tank, or Healer, but that's endgame stuff and by that time you'll already be intamitely comfortable with everything and it will be second nature.

I do still have a Bluetooth keyboard for emergencies, which is usually if someone is asking questions I can answer. This is absolutely not necessary though, a huge portion of the community plays on console and doesn't type. All you need to be equipped with is the "o/" greeting when entering content and a good ol' "TYFP!" when leaving in your Playstation keyboard autofill and you're good to go, lol.

It's not even remotely as complicated as it looks like from afar, and I say this as someone who used that excuse for a long time. Once you get invested the only thing that should give you trouble is figuring out how you want to customize your UI. All the normal difficulty progression content is also incredibly forgiving. There is no story content locked behind high difficulty content, other than maybe some alternate forms for raid bosses of old FF characters, and that's just visual stuff.

I had absolutely no MMO experience going into it and was doing some absolutely embarrasing stuff all the way up until the end of the base game, but it ever actually hindered my profession in the slightest.

If you really want to play it safe, just play as a DPS job. Other than affecting how long a dungeon or boss takes to beat, you won't have any actual responsibility until you hit level 60!

I think that's what killed the game for me so much to the point where I dropped it is that I thought Johnny Silverhands was a big fucking loser, lol. He's like a parody of a cool dude who is meant to look be lame on purpose, but the game is acting like he's actually cool and it's wild to me. Him being Keanu is also super distracting, I like the guy but I don't think he's a good voice actor. Ever time he speaks in ripper out of the narrative.

I guess I'm in a major minority in that one, but is what it is.

If we're in a battle of aesthetics then my Marie stance does a total 180 I can assure you.

Marie shouldn't be in a good Persona 4 character poll in general, much less best attendants.

I quit playing after about 30 hours, can't say I ever really found myself enjoying the game at all past the introductory chapter.

Battles seem slow.

It's the beginning of tactical JRPG though, as turned off by the demo as I was I can't pretend it s a great representation of the gameplay potential.

It wasn't so bad in the PSX version, but WotL made a bunch of the names dumber, even just via spelling changes.

Changing Orlandu to Orlandaeu is a prime example. And obviously Algus to Argath is then most notorious.

Although fuck, it's a made up word so I didn't really consider it, but Octopath Traveler is the exact same type of name, huh?

I feel like they literally just forgot to come up with a real name for the game until it was too late, and some marketing manager had already printed up all the fliers.

Triangle Strategy feels like some dumb made up genre, not a game name. "Strand Type Game" energy. Fire Emblem is a "Triangle Strategy Game", too.

There was some generic fantasy anime from a few years ago that's first line was a man and a woman on a battlefield telling each other their names, and I remember that was on par or worse than these to the point where I stopped watching the anime literally the second I heard them.

Really wish I could remember the name of that damn show, but it's one of those seasonal that's already forgotten by everyone before it even finishes airing.

The voice acting is bad and the story and characters are bland as hell, exactly the same issues Octopath Traveler had. I was excited for the battle system change and had my fingers crossed, but there's basically no chance I ever give this the time of day again.

The 2DHD look is also wearing out its welcome, I think it gets way too much praise. Of course there's likely bias there that all the games that use it seem to end up being bad.

If this game ends up having save transfer I'll need to play the first. I just watched the Super Best Friends playthrough.

As for XB3 I wasn't paying a TON of attention to the trailer when it first aired because I was too busy reacting to the fact they the characters even looked decent, but I rewatched and have seen a ton of art hitting Twitter, and I think these are some of my favorite character designs in any RPG? It just fits my aesthetic so well.

Character art =/= character design.

"This Wii game looks bad" isn't a hot take.

Not a fan. As a character he's just bland and uninteresting, not offensively bad. Just like the story he's just kind of nothing.

His design is....innoffensive, I guess? I inherently do not like the little vest at all. I think if you ditched the bulky gloves for something more leathery and made the vest bigger it'd be fine, even with the abs still full on display.

Never forget that Raven is 35 in Vesperia.

He has a dozen or so lines about his old bones creaking.

Is XB2 one of those games that has a 28 year character that people call "old man"?
