I am guessing this is going to be a BIG HELL NO .I would guess that both enclosures would lack enough uvb for their inhabitants if you did this. And the last thing you want is for your expensive skink to get metabolic bone disease. --- psn - Deathpainter steam - Deathpainter2000 |

deathpainter 02/06/22 9:22:56 PM #17 | MabusIncarnate posted... I think the Tegu you are talking about is the Colombian one, they have a better reputation for being easier to handle as adults. Some people feed them live mice as adults, but I think that makes them more food aggressive.I've always heard the opposite. That it is the argentine black and whites that are the most chill tegus as adults. Take that with a grain of salt though, these guys are all still very big reptiles with their own personalities. The one lizard that gave me the strongest bite while I was working at a reptile shop was a juvenile tegu. Thankfully I had bite gloves on, but it felt like a vice on my hand. --- psn - Deathpainter steam - Deathpainter2000 |

deathpainter 02/06/22 9:18:01 PM #15 | Blue tongue skinks are fantastic. Easy to care for, and you can get the entire setup off the shelf at the store. You wont need to build a giant custom enclosure like you would with the Tegu. You also could consider something like an emerald tree skink. They are really personable, and active lizards that stay relatively small. Plus they like to be kept in groups, so they interact with each other when not interacting with you. Clints reptiles (the guy linked above) has been saying they are his highest recommended lizard. I'm hoping to get a pair myself soon. There are also plenty of medium sized snakes that are very interactive, yet chill enough to sit around your shoulders while you are at a desk working. So thats something else you could look at. --- psn - Deathpainter steam - Deathpainter2000 |

deathpainter 01/24/22 3:22:28 AM #30 | BuckVanHammer posted... so what's something like this live in when kept as a pet? whats it eat? can it have friends live with them?I set it up today in a 16qt plastic bin with some vents added. They mostly eat plant matter, so veggies and rotting wood. They can be kept together with other giant millipedes, and will breed in captivity if you take good care of them. Not a good idea to mix species though, since they can excrete toxic sludge when stressed. --- psn - Deathpainter steam - Deathpainter2000 |
Topic | My new Giant African Millipede! |
deathpainter 01/23/22 8:47:51 PM #25 | [LFAQs-redacted-quote] It was a really good show for inverts. Tons of variety in tarantulas, scorpions and true spiders. Plus a pretty good selection of mantids, grasshoppers, centipedes and even some goliath beetle larva. Wasn't great for the more rare isopods, but I picked up quite a few mid-range species. Not as impressive on the reptile side, but thats pretty standard these days. Tons and tons of ball pythons and leopard geckos ,but not much else. A few rare things here and there, but I'm still waiting to see what the next big craze is going to be in the reptile side. --- psn - Deathpainter steam - Deathpainter2000 |

I absolutely loathe centipedes though.I really like the big centipedes too, but I certainly wouldn't hold one like this. [LFAQs-redacted-quote] 8 more species of isopod to add to my collection/business. And a couple horrid king assassin bug nymphs. My wife got a spiny flower mantis too. Returning_CEmen posted... How much was it?$150, which is a lot in a vacuum, but pretty average price for these. 10-15 years. Nope, cant afford to buy multiples right now, but it could be cool in the future. I've been looking for one for years and finally saw several of them at the show. The Archispirostreptus gigas, or the Giant African Millipede. Its still not full grown, but is already far larger than any other millipede species I've kept. One of my holy grail species that I can cross off the list. --- psn - Deathpainter steam - Deathpainter2000 |
Topic | Anyone own any lizards? Just got a Tegu. |
deathpainter 12/17/21 4:33:16 PM #9 | Tegus are great, but a lot of work and commitment. It's going to get very large. They need a huge enclosure, and a ton of socialization and interaction. You don't want a lizard that size getting over zealous with its feeding response. --- psn - Deathpainter steam - Deathpainter2000 |

deathpainter 09/06/21 2:48:01 AM #29 | Like everyone has mentioned, it's #10. They are isopods. Or pill bugs, Roly polys, woodlice. They are fantastic little critters that have been gaining a lot of popularity in the pet trade lately as terrarium cleaners or even pets on their own. I started up a small side hustle breeding several species of isopods earlier this year. Currently I have 12 types and hope to keep expanding my collection. --- psn - Deathpainter steam - Deathpainter2000 |
