Kuro no Kiseki might do what I think you want? Basically, you have a real-time system (think baby's first Ys game), and after softening up the enemies a bit you press a button to swap to a standard turn-based system. Once you do, everyone's starting positions are exactly where they were when you hit that button.

12's version of Battle on the Big Bridge might be my least favorite rendition of it? It feels very fluttery.

Force Your Way Record Keeper's intro is incredible. Once it gets into the melody, I think it loses a lot of what grabbed my attention, but it's still good. Very Yoko Shimamura-y.

3.1->3.5 is the best arc of FFXIV don't at me. Revenge of the Horde is definitely a cool remix of, uh... that theme that it's a remix of >_> Which in context makes it an excellent capstone for the arc, but I don't think I like it as much in isolation.

Lava Dome should not be in a tiebreaker this is a travesty (yeah dowolf why didn't you participate in noms [girl you have only yourself to blame {hush me}])

cute iguana is cute. Not a fun of the pixel remaster. It's too true to the original, almost? makes me wish I was listening to the crisper attacks of a chiptune. Or whatever word I should be using for that concept.

Strange groovy Chaos Shrine is really good too. Hopefully it picks up the other tiebreaker slot.

well maybe Haji is the worst-est but like, here's a snippet of dialogue from early in the prologue:

Agnes: "How'd you know I was 16?"
Vaan: "Just a hunch. You got knockers, but it don't look like you been around the block."

I can't really imagine that line being used to introduce us to anyone in CS, let alone Sky.

Even more to the point (actual spoiler), there's an Evil Drug that causes men to spontaneously start fights and women to spontaneously strip. I am not even joking.

They didn't show the text on-screen, so I could only really notice mistakes during voiced segments (and even then I tended to play at like triple speed because there was so much but >_>), but it was mostly fine. There were some mistakes, but of course there were some mistakes. I am admittedly not a fan of Aquagon (who helped with the translation)'s TL style, but... I dunno. It's the internet. People are dicks.

kuro no kiseki update: currently in chapter 3, which is *something* like halfway through the game I think I don't even know.

I have, uh, soured on the game. Considerably. Combat system has no depth, and while nightmare has consistently gotten easier over time, it's a straight-up joke here. As for the plot, to quote something I wrote in a discussion with other friends playing the game (not really spoilers, but will put bars over it anyways):

"The more i play, the more I am convinced that Falcom saw all the complaints about CS4 being too lighthearted and flippant, and decided the way to fix that was random strippers, rampant sexual assault, and incessant chauvinism. You know. Mature stuff!"

There are way too many musical gems buried in complete crap for me to feel that way. Silver Surfer for the NES immediately comes to mind.
