For PS1, I would say FFT by a lot. TO gameplay was really annoying with how you need to level as certain classes for stat growths. It's really easy to play the game and find yourself super weak or with no accuracy or speed because you didn't level up as a class with the stat growth you need for the class you actually want to be unless you refer to a guide. I did hear the PSP made a lot of gameplay improvements though, so it's probably fine. Also the TO soundtrack is sick. Probably my top game soundtrack of all time.

So yeah, play both but I lean to FFT.

I love me some gay girls innit. But FF is a Japanese franchise, and it's way too mainstream to go gay. I don't think even Gust or Idea Factory go beyond yuri subtext in their games, and they'd go super hard gay long before FF would even consider a lesbian main couple.

They were even bigger on PS1 version. That said, they were reduced ever since Advent Children so idk why people are suddenly complaining now after almost 20 years.

Some of them were okay. I don't remember finding any of them entertaining, but that might just be because I saw them as schoolwork. 1984 really stood out to me though. It was a boring read to be sure, but the message resonated with me.

I feel like Golden Sun at least had a Lufia 2 kinda feel. Or the other way around, since I played GS first.

Came to say shmups, but was already in the OP. I think CAVE was like the last major shmup dev and they haven't released a game since 2012. I don't think Konami's released one since 2011. It's pretty much just indie devs who still make games here and there, (like stralbringer just came out a couple months ago) but the number of noteworthy games coming out over time is very low. Maybe like 1-2 per year?
