Ghost of Tsushima very impressive. Animal Crossing doing very poorly considering it has the least amount of fanbase overlap with any of the other games in the poll. I imagine it will do considerably worse if it were only up against FF7R and Ghost of Tsushima.

I get bored of DA:O pretty easily because I've beaten it before.

I remember loving it when it was first released but felt exactly the same like you on my previous replay. It is still one of the best of the genre but it shows it's age. Same thing happened with Star Wars: KotR and Mass Effect 1. All three games rank considerably lower than when I first played those games.

Mass Effect 2, 3 and Witcher 3 are the three exceptional WRPGs that rank even higher after subsequent replays for me. Even Skyrim and Fallout 3 has fallen way down on the totem pole for me.

I cannot believe the Demon's Souls disrespect in this poll. It is a ground up remake even if it is the same game as the PS3 original compared to Mario which is just a lazy hd compilation that also had the audacity to exclude Galaxy 2.

Where the fuck is Xenoblade DE if Persona 5 Royal was allowed in? Seriously what is this?

Typical of Allen to exclude obvious entrants for absolutely no reason (Kingdom Hearts III in 2019) and make contest ruining decisions like the 2 games per series rule which in turn let a 100 fodder indie games in GotD2.

I'm scratching my head at this format as well. The system by system poll works much better for our GotY polls.

There is no way Miles Morales (a glorified expansion) beats DOOM Eternal.

Spoilers. Here is how GotY 2020 is gonna play out

01. Final Fantasy VII Remake
02. Animal Crossing: New Horizons
03. The Last of Us Part II
04. Ghost of Tsushima
05. Hades
06. Cyberpunk 2077
07. DOOM Eternal
08. Yakuza: Like a Dragon
09. Spider-Man: Miles Morales
10. Resident Evil 3

Demon's Souls will probably be #3 if it is included but it shouldn't be because if it is Xenoblade Definitive Edition should be in it as well and that can give Animal Crossing a run for its money.

I don't know how far along the game I am. I'm in Chapter 4. Finished about 4 Star Doors, 2 Moon Doors (with 2nd episodes still left unfinished), 1 Sun Door so I'm guessing I am still in early game.

Problem is every other trails game have hooked me somewhat by Chapter 4 and about 13 hours even FC and CS1, the two games with the slowest starts in the series (understandably so since both are the first game in its series).

I even did a series recap on youtube to prepare myself for 3rd since its been a while since last I played SC so not remembering the previous games is not even an issue here.

Is it the consensus least favorite game in the series for people here? I know board 8 has one of the biggest Trails fanbase.

It was the only officially localized Trails game that I didn't play so I thought why not give it a shot since I enjoyed my time with every entry in the series from Trails FC to Cold Steel IV.

Now I am by no means the biggest fan of the series but I do like the games a lot. My biggest issues with the series would be its pacing and the gameplay being super run of the mill. When the series hits it's highs though it really nails which is my main incentive to play those games horrible pacing issues aside.

My Trails series ranking would be something like this
CSIII > SC > CSIV > CSII > CSI > FC

Not that FC is bad by any means but it felt more like a pilot episode of a huge series and mostly focused on world building so I can't fault it.

Now my main issue here with Trails 3rd is that it feels very much like an extended epilogue with fanfiction like side stories (which feels like the meat and potatoes of the game). The game kinda feels grindy in comparison to the rest of the series as well but I am fine with that since I enjoy grinding at times and it isn't over bearing by any means.

It's just that I'm in Chapter 4 right now and the game is feeling repetitive. I like the setting of Phantasma but the fact that everything is a glorified illusion makes it feel like lazy asspull storytelling. Game just feels like find sealing stone unlock next character, unlock next part of dungeon. Chapter finish rinse and repeat.

I'm probably gonna stick with it to the end despite my grievances but if someone comes here telling me it gets better might spark some motivation in me. This is the least interested I have been in playing a game in the series since I have started playing the series.

Cheers.

Maybe it is also to do with Cody taking unnecessary shots at Triple H and WWE which makes AEW just seem desperate in turn.

Judas easily for best entrance theme for the sole reason it makes Jericho smile and break character every time. If anyone in the business deserves that level of respect it is him. Also just a legit good song.

I love Nioh. I was one of the few constantly praising it on the board whenever I got the opportunity. Which is exactly why Nioh 2 was one of the most disappointing games of the year for me. If you compare the Souls games to each other or rather every FromSoftware Souls game, each have their own easily distinguishable identity and have very memorable Bosses, areas and lore.

Nioh 2 not only has barely any new atmosphere but it outright reuses Nioh 1's assets hence the feeling of deja vu. The worst offender was one of the final palaces where you refight all the earlier bosses just like the original and even used almost the exact same layout.

Not saying I didn't have fun with the game. I will always be a die-hard Souls fan and Nioh 2 is the sequel to it's best clone. It was good (I mean it is exactly like Nioh 1 but with poorer level design but somewhat better bosses here and there) but I hesitate to call it great given how I have pretty much seen everything the game has to offer 3 years ago.

Watchdogs was one of the most disappointing games I have played after all the hype leading to its release. It was one of those game that told me, tone down your expectations next time and don't always believe in the hype.

Now I know you are talking about the sequel which did improve some of the issues I had with the original. Key word improve. It wasn't fixed it was merely improved.

Those are about the only good things I have to say about the game though. The driving mechanics is still atrocious. The plot is Mass Effect Andromeda levels of uninspired and the characters are so damn cringe inducing. But all that can be excused if it didn't commit the one cardinal sin a video game shouldn't commit. The sin of being a fucking boring game. The overly repetitive nature of the game and everything being just average is what I remember most from Watch Dogs 2 so yeah I find it laughable that it ranks over Bloodborne in anything.

I could have even somehow excused a bad opinion like this if Nioh 2 wasn't literally ranked 2nd just a few posts later as someone who doesn't like these kind of games. But you literally ranked a soulsborne copy 2nd in the same topic. A game which should have been called Nioh 1.5 instead of 2. In this day and age, a game that is literally an expansion shouldn't have been passed off as a sequel. I have played 100 hours of Nioh 2 doing everything in the game and my god it felt like a deja vu of the original only with worse level design. Only the Yokai shift mechanic makes it distinguishable from the original otherwise it literally the same game.

As for Call of Duty 2019. All I am gonna say is 1 game being a carbon copy of Modern Warfare is understandable. 11 or 12 of them is not. Call it prejudice against the series but it has rightfully earned that reputation from me and a lot of the non casual gaming fanbase. There is a good reason yearly releases are loathed. Even Assassin's Creed now has the decency to not do that whereas Call of Duty continues to be the FIFA or NBA 2K of FPS even in a year where a literal pandemic happened.

I agree with you on Yakuza 0's gameplay mostly. It is a glaring weakness for the series and quite repetitive in nature. I have played the entire series recently from Kiwami 1 to 6 (0, I played it a few years back). 0 is the most polished gameplay-wise but it is still flawed yes. The series however has some of the most memorable storyline ( ridiculous in a very entertaining way) and characters. So if you are playing the game and expecting stellar gameplay then you are absolutely looking in the wrong place. Still I agree somewhat with what you said about Yakuza 0. As for Bloodborne I don't think I can elaborate how I feel about that game with a paragraph or two. I have completed over 1100 games and it is a Top 15 game for me. I won't be able to do it proper justice so I'm gonna stop with what is already a wall of text.

Chrono Trigger would have most certainly won the 2015 contest if the rallies didn't happen. It had absurd natural strength and was a beast that year. That and it severely outperformed Ocarina of Time in all its matches to support that theory.

Ocarina looked pretty bad in its matches against Suikoden II, FFIX and SotN whereas CT nearly doubled FFX and was well on its way to a 60-40 and rising beating on Melee before it's rallies kicked in.

It is baffling how when I first played Yakuza on the PS2 years and years ago I was laughing at how bad the game was. What with it's horrible dub and the wannabe Japanese GTA aesthetics. I shunned the series entirely and never gave it a chance despite even owning the rare original PS2 copy of Yakuza 2.

Years and years later I gave the series a shot for the first time when I heard a lot of positive buzz about Yakuza 0. Needless to say my outlook on the series changed completely after playing Yakuza 0 and I was willing to give the entire series a shot. 2020 was also the perfect time for me with a lot of free time in my hands and the entire series being easily accessible on the PS4. Lo behold it has been one of the highlights of my gaming life in 2020.

It is ironic how being a huge fan of Shenmue was what led me to playing Yakuza in the first place but then I wrote off the series completely as something that is not for me. But then if you ask me now? Yakuza has far surpassed Shenmue in ways I would have deemed incomprehensible back then. Oh how the student has become the master. Infact the student would beat the everlasting daylights out of the master now.

What is your favorite Yakuza game?

Wow what a finale that was. Ending was bad in the worst cliff-hanger bad kinda way but I played Y6 right after so I'm ok with it. I still have mini-games and some other side stuff that I need to clean up but I'll get back to it after Yakuza 6. I'll then play 0 again and come back to 3 (ugh), 4, 5 for 100% completion (or as close as I can possibly get). Then I guess hopefully Like a Dragon will have released on the PS5 so I can finish off the series with the proper respect that it deserves if not I will just settle on my PS4 version.

Anyway. 5 is definitely my 2nd favorite game in the series. If not for its at times atrocious pacing and the almost unnecessary 5th character (could have used this time to flesh out Kiryu and Saejima's plot instead or maybe have Goro be one of the playable characters, which feels like such a missed opportunity in hindsight) , this could have reached 0's heights if not outright surpassed it. I would say Y5 is one of those games which prove to be such a memorable experience but with it's fair share of flaws and unnecessary fat dragging it down.

Series ranking so far
0 > 5 > Kiwami 2 > Kiwami 1 > 4 > 3

Done with Shinada's chapters. His part feels like how a spin-off game feels in comparison from the mainline entries. He's also easily the weakest main character in the game but Tanimura suffered with the same problem in Y4.

Eternal is so much better than DOOM. The change in how the ammo system works really encourages you to go all out and not hold back making combat way more fun and not feel like just another FPS on the market. Exposing enemy weaknesses, better boss battles and the levels being more aesthetically pleasing is just a bonus to how much that change makes the sequel far superior.

Honestly I facepalm harder whenever Kiryu or one of the series protagonists throws away a fully loaded gun close to the enemy's proximity and somebody close or dear to theirs ends up getting shot or worse flat out killed.

So rubber bullets while such an asspull of a plot element, at least saved Akiyama.

I'm in full suspension of disbelief mode at this point with the series so I'm ok with it as long as Kiryu does throw away a loaded gun next to an enemy again. I mean I believe they would have learned by now.
