You know you're living a good life when you don't notice or care.

Man I used to really admire you, but you're an unempathetic asshole.

I've been fine, nice to see you're still around

Do you have Discord or something where we can catch up?

It's a pretty stunning case of everything being down. I'm amazed by how bad this is getting.

And the problem is exacerbating exponentially, is there any coverage about it on the US news yet?

I do feel for the people who rely on the messenger services though

Thank you. I have no love lost for the social media bull****, but there are people who live day to day and rely on these services to pay their rent and feed their families, and... this sucks.

Long time no see my friend :D How have you been?

I don't think Ulti understands what messenger, whatsapp, etc. are

It just seems to me like he has no empathy for fellow humans.

yeah whatsapp is massive everywhere except north america

it's basically the only way anyone communicated with me while i was travelling

People who have never left the US really can't understand.

All of my group chats are on Instagram and I've felt lost all day.

No FB and IG is whatever to me
But no Whatsapp is a huge blow
I don't know how popular it is in the US, but here it's a primary communication app for pretty much everyone
A lot of work-related groups here there too
And for some reason only like 20% of my contacts have Telegram

I feel exactly the same way. The economy here in my local space feels paralyzed, people are just standing outside trying to figure out what to do. Literally everything runs through WhatsApp, personal or business.

It's been a very quiet day here, because all of our staff in Central/South America use WhatsApp for all of their communication. It's crazy how ubiquitous it is down there. I was following that r/sysadmin thread and it seems like a legit explanation

It is incredibly ubiquitous here. It permeates the society. It's difficult to understand if you live in the USA and don't have contact with this culture.

This is a good reminder to have people on different services.

I have anyone I talk to regularly on two different services at minimum. Outages happen.

It absolutely is. The problem is that here, 95% of all online communication occurs through WhatsApp or Instagram. I'm struggling to even think of an alternative method.

I think you misunderstood me. I was adding to your point against "nothing of value was lost."

I 100% did, I apologize. I realized my mistake almost immediately.

And nothing of value was lost. The world didnt end when trashy antisocial media sites went down. Imagine that.

Its almost like going outside and touching grass is better for you.

I mean, I understand that. I already went surfing today, touched the grass and the beach and the waves, just like most days.

But it's a tool that people use to communicate and teach each other with, and when it goes down suddenly, it can be jarring.

To say that "no value was lost" is incredibly self-centered because some of us use these tools to teach other people new languages and new things, and when you lose these opportunities, value is lost.

Yeah I saw this which makes me kind of worried it might be a little while until they're back online...

If only all sites like those would just stay gone.

They'll be back up soon enough. Probably have like a dozen different backups each.

I live in Brazil and teach English through WhatsApp. We don't use SMS or anything like that here so it's literally my livelihood as well as the way I communicate with everyone I know.
