The war has already taken "an unimaginable toll," and a major military operation against the crowded southern Gaza city "would bring catastrophe on top of catastrophe for children," Russell [executive director of UNICEF] warned. "Nearly all of the some 600,000 children now crammed into Rafah are either injured, sick, malnourished, traumatized, or living with disabilities."

Many have been displaced multiple times and lost homes, parents, and loved ones," the UNICEF chief noted. "There is nowhere safe to go in Gaza. Homes throughout the Gaza Strip lie in ruin. Roads are destroyed and the ground littered with unexploded ordnances."

"Rafah is also the main hub for the humanitarian response, which includes UNICEF, and the city has some of the last functioning healthcare facilities," she explained.

Israeli forces launched at least 435 attacks on health facilities or personnel during the first six months of the war, and just 10 of the enclave's 36 hospitals remain partially functional, according to the World Health Organization. As Common DreamsreportedWednesday, thousands of Palestinian child amputees are struggling to recover due to the destruction of Gaza's healthcare system.

"UNICEF continues to call for the protection of all women and children in Rafah and throughout the Gaza Stripand the protection of the infrastructure, services, and humanitarian aid they rely on," said Russell. "We repeat our calls for the unconditional release of all hostages in Gaza who need to be home with their children and families. The violence must end."

"Rafah will implode if it is targeted militarily," Elder [UNICEF spokesperson] stressed. "Water is in desperately short supply, not just for drinking but sanitation. In Rafah there is approximately one toilet for every 850 people. The situation is four times worse for showers. That is, around one shower for every 3,500 people. Try to imagine, as a teenage girl, or elderly man, or pregnant woman, queueing for an entire day just to have a shower."

They've been making the TikTok parody videos long before the recent Tetrahedron thing, and yes there are real TikTok videos that look like this which Onion is parodying. Those videos put the actual content on half the screen then add Family Guy clips and/or mobile game gameplay for maximum brained stimulation. Nothing happened to the Onion, they are still on top of their game (but yes they've had less budget in recent years which is why you don't get the full newsroom parody videos anymore, but they're trying to bring those back after the new acquisition).

Well Israel is not going anywhere, nobodys going to be able to le river to le sea them out of existence, so a two state solution is the only answer. But to my knowledge Palestinians reject that? So thats where were at. Just more meaningless violence and terrorist attacks for a completely lost cause. High level of ignorance in this post. Israel has actively worked to prevent any Palestinian state; that's why Israel funded Hamas. Shifting blame onto Palestinians for not taking "what they can get" is not just ahistorical but shifts blame away from what is far and away the region's number 1 impediment to a Palestinian state, which is Israel.

Israel's end game is total control of the land in Gaza, West Bank and beyond, and part of that goal is that the Palestinians living there must either leave or die. Without the international community standing up to Israel, the Palestinians will never get a "deal" of any kind.

The Israeli government warned the Biden administration that if the International Criminal Court issues arrest warrants against Israeli leaders, it will take retaliatory steps against the Palestinian Authority that could lead to its collapse, two Israeli and U.S. officials said.

Why it matters: Israeli officials have grown increasingly concerned over the last two weeks that the International Criminal Court (ICC) is preparing to issue arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Defense Minister Yoav Gallant and Israel Defense Forces chief of staff Herzi Halevi.

Driving the news: The ICC, which is based in The Hague, Netherlands, has been investigating since 2021 possible war crimes by both Israeli forces and Palestinian militants dating back to the 2014 Israel-Hamas war.

That investigation has been extended to the Oct. 7 attacks and the war that has been raging in Gaza since then, according to the prosecutor's office.

Behind the scenes: Over the last few weeks, Israel has told the U.S. that it has information suggesting Palestinian Authority officials are pressing the ICC prosecutor to issue arrest warrants against Israeli leaders, two Israeli officials said.

U.S. and Israeli officials said Israel told the Biden administration that if arrests warrants are issued, it will consider the Palestinian Authority responsible and retaliate with strong action that could lead to its collapse.

One possible action could be to freeze the transfer of tax revenues Israel collects for the Palestinian Authority. Without these funds, the Palestinian Authority would be bankrupt.

A senior Israeli official told Axios the threat of ICC arrest warrants is real and stressed if such a scenario happens the Israeli cabinet would likely make an official decision to punish the Palestinian Authority, which could lead to its collapse.

The White House and the Israeli Prime Minster's office declined to comment.
Palestinian Authority officials did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

The issue of potential ICC arrest warrants came up during a call between Netanyahu and President Biden last Sunday, with Netanyahu asking Biden for help, Axios reported earlier this week.

Two U.S. officials said Biden told Netanyahu during the call that a report on Channel 12 in Israel that suggested the U.S. might have given a "green light" to the ICC to issue arrest warrants against Israeli leaders was not true.

I won't get involved in the debate and protests and all that, how you feel about Israel/Palestine, that is up to you. I don't want to start a whole thing (especially with the new board rules). So this is just about the chant.

You do not have the privilege to fence sit the actual mass violence but still tone police the people who are calling for the violence to end.

This is repeatedly at the crux of criticisms of Palestinian advocacy: to forcibly and falsely equate liberation of Palestinians to killing of Jewish people, or else to make the mere feelings of Israelis or Jewish people as valuable as the actual lives of tens of thousands of Palestinians being murdered by the state of Israel.

Because I live in the middle of nowhere with a family I hate yet pathologically think about how I can annoy/interact with them less and in the rare times I come to CE to talk about I do it because I feel like it's finally absurd enough to vent about and not because I need someone to find a way to take their side and convince me that maybe I'm the asshole for not capitulating to their childish inabilities to take care of themselves or consider the other residents

The worst part is for whatever reason I'm such a people pleaser that I've spent the last 30 minutes thinking of how I could've gone about this that wouldn't involve making her upset, and hypothesizing why it might make her upset like maybe she sees holding up the washing machine as the tiny amount of control she can exert or something given her lack of a job, and I took that away from her. It's so ridiculous to think like this and is probably an effect of growing up here around this awful family but the alternative is consistently pissing her off and having to deal with that 24/7.

Again no there is no setting or issue I might miss. I've seen her load her laundry before. The dryer does not have special settings. She doesn't separate her laundry by colors or fabrics.

She's 29 years old and pouts like a child because I asked her to take care of her clothes. Acts like I transgressed by not letting her clothes sit wet in the washing machine for 10 hours while she did god knows what.

What else can I even say to underscore how stupid this situation is. Anyone that touches her clothes is an asshole I guess but she has no self awareness about her stopping anyone else from doing laundry all day by letting her clothes just sit in there wet.

It makes sense economically to live at my parents' house since I work remote but God is it insufferable at times.

And no there is no special thing she does that I might not have done in terms of the dryer settings or anything. She is just mad because once someone did that and her clothes didn't dry all the way. Missing the irony that otherwise her clothes wouldn't have been dried at all
