there is a difference between a job and a career.

a job is a paid position of regular employment whereas a career is an occupation taken for a significant portion of your life with (and here is the important part) opportunities for progress

Why does it even matter to make the distinction?

Also, the "opportunities for progress" part you bolded is laughable and makes no sense. A line cook has far more avenues for progress than a head chef. Ergo head chef is a job since you have no more opportunities for progress, but a line cook is a career since you have so many avenues you could take here.

TheOkHornedRat posted...
it is literally a title that is meant to denote your education

Only if the title itself is protected (which "Chef" is not). Anyone can call themselves an accountant with just on the job training, only "Chartered Accountant" is protected. So what makes a self proclaimed Accountant more of a career than a self proclaimed chef?

Another good example in the US is Engineer - not a protected title either ("Professional Engineer" is protected). Anyone can get a bit of on the job training and call themselves a software engineer, no computer science or engineering degree required. What makes this more acceptable than someone calling themself a chef?

Just weird and frankly depressing focus you have on the matter. If someone enjoys the work and it pays their bills, does it matter in the slightest if there is a distinction between "job" and "career". That person has made it their career and that's all that matters.

Very hyperbolic of u. Marches are not treason. Trump even said peacefully according to what dynalo just posted. If a few idiots got over excited and stormed the capital that is not on trump.

You can't spend twenty minutes telling people over and over that he and they were robbed, that the election was a fraud, that they need to fight for their rights, that they need to march, that they can't take no for an answer, that they can't be weak, and that they are losing their rights, and then at the very end slip in "peacefully" to try and have something to point to when people call you on inciting a riot.

No. Absolutely unforgivable. I'll repeat this again. His speech should have been absolutely nothing other than "I'm sorry I have said things regarding election fraud that were untrue. I have lost this election and would like to congratulate President-Elect Biden and wish him well, and I encourage you all to do the same. Thank you for your support."

That is it. That's all that should have been said.

We will never give up. We will never concede, it doesnt happen. You dont concede when theres theft involved.

Our country has had enough. We will not take it any more and thats what this is all about. To use a favourite term that all of you people really came up with, we will stop the steal.

.....

Were going walk down to the Capitol, and were going to cheer on our brave senators, and congressmen and women. Were probably not going to be cheering so much for some of them because youll never take back our country with weakness. You have to show strength, and you have to be strong.

We have come to demand that Congress do the right thing and only count the electors who have been lawfully slated, lawfully slated. I know that everyone here will soon be marching over to the Capitol building to peacefully and patriotically make your voices heard.

Stoking the flames and insisting dozens of times that there was election fraud, insisting people go and march on Capitol and demand Congress puts him back in power. I don't care if he uses the word "peacefully" at the very end. He got the crowd angry and riled up and then told them to march on the Capitol. He knew exactly what he was doing. He knew exactly how his supporters would react and it was exactly what he wanted.

His speech should have been a concession, an admission that there was no election fraud and that he lost, with calls for calm and to welcome the new President. Instead he insisted he won by a large margin and told his supporter to demand Congress make that happen.

Here pretty much every self checkout is limited to usually 16 items, depending on the store. So if you have a full cart, you have to use a cashier. Which makes sense because a cashier will absolutely be faster than you if you have a full cart.

Lacrimosa of Dana is a more fleshed out and long action rpg. It's a 40 hour game. It's also one of my favourites in the series.

Origin is a much shorter game, maybe 10 hours, but there are three separate characters to play as, none of which are Adol. So that's negative points from me right there.

I vote to play Lacrimosa of Dana, but it may not be a terrible idea to play Origin first just to see if you like that style of game.

I assumed this would be about inviting a friend that the family doesn't really know. Husbands and wives are, in my opinion, automatically invited to all family events that the actual family member is invited to, both good and bad.

imo the focus should be lowering the price and doing things that don't use force or violate freedom.

Forcing the price to be lower sounds like it goes against those wishes. You also can't really "shop around" if you got stabbed and need surgery. You get taken to whoever is closest, and they fix you up. What if afterwards you find out they charge double or triple what the doctor in the next town over charges? That's kinda why regulation is a good thing in this industry. Your body isn't like a car where you can just get a quote on it from a mechanic and then call around to see if people can do better.

And quickly on your point of youtube vs articles - articles are always faster to go through in terms of amount of information vs time. First, youtube videos tend to try and be more entertaining (and thus less relevant), and second, people talk slower than they read. If you gave me a transcript of the YouTube video, it would be literally faster for me to read that than it would be to watch the video. The main reason people hate youtube videos for stuff like this though is the sensationalist takes that aren't as common in written articles (which is part of why you probably don't like articles as much, as sensationalism is often more entertaining... It's why they do it)

Note the second sentence there where they still get treatment, but it throws them into financial ruin. And sometimes, like with cancers, they wait too long because "I don't feel that bad and can't afford to go to the doctors". By the time they do go it's too late. This IS well documented. Doctors aren't out there denying treatment. People are dying because they can't afford to even go and see them in the first place.

Wanded posted...
why not try lowering the price first via a free market,

Because people still couldn't afford it. If you live paycheck to paycheck, any price above $0 is too much to go and see a doctor for an annual check up.

Wanded posted...
tax discounts

Only works if you have the money up front and can wait for the tax discount. Therefore doesn't work for those people that are paycheck to paycheck.

We agree price is the issue. We disagree on there being a way to fix it without government being involved and insurance going away entirely. Far more people struggle day to day with paying their bills than I believe you realize. I just want these people to be able to go to the doctor and not have to worry about how they'll pay for it.

https://www.nationalreview.com/2017/04/health-care-basic-facts-and-hard-truths/

I'll go through this by each point in the article.

1) Yes, all health care programs have challenges. But do you know what's worse than a waiting list? Dying because you can't afford treatment. Or getting treatment anyways and then declaring bankruptcy. Waiting lists aren't even a huge concern, as patients are always seen on the basis of criticality.

2) This would be fixed by government run health care. That way, coverage would be access, because everyone would be able to access health care.

3) Why is this article written as though insurance is still in the picture? If you get rid of insurance and have health care come from taxes, that fixes the issue he pointed out about "not enough young people signed up to offset the costs". If everyone is paying into it, those cancer bills can get split across the whole system and no longer be crippling. Keep insurance out of this.

4) Again, this article is written as though Medicare is in addition to existing systems. Keep insurance out, put everyone on the same level, and all these problems don't exist. Most of the issues he listed here are because there are options besides medicare. If there weren't, medicare (or whatever the new national program is called) would have to get significantly better, and there would be pressure from the entire public to make it better, rather than just those who are currently on it.

5) Again, let's create a new and better system rather than trying to point to something old and say "I don't want that".

6) I mean, this is true. No matter what, if you institute national health care the people at the top end will not be happy. Whatever the new challenges (waiting lists or whatever) are will absolutely hurt them moreso than folks at the bottom. But no one will have to worry about dying because they caught a very treatable disease. I think that's worth the pain of some folks being unhappy.

Private roads may indeed be better maintained, they also don't have to maintain every road ever. There are going to be roads less travelled, and someone needs to build and maintain those roads. I'm fine with my tax money going to subsidize that, and not be hit by tolls on every single road I drive on.

I enjoy being able to go up far north for some backpacking, on roads less travelled. Thankfully, these roads exist because we pay taxes and the government builds them. Private companies would just let all the town's and parks die because there's no money in it.

Cons would have won, though, if the election was based on votes. Im not sure why they wouldnt agree to that reform.

"Won" wouldn't exactly be how I'd define that. They would be the defacto leader, sure, but they would also have fewer seats that they do now, the overall opposition would be significantly stronger (NDP + Green Party combined wouldn't be that far behind them).

It would make it much harder for them to push across any of their agendas because no one wants to work with the Conservatives. They would be the leader, but the Liberals and NDP would make all the decisions. They're better off with the current system and trying to get a majority, something that is nearly impossible under proportional representation, which is why they don't want it.

Well... we had that in Canada. The party that won last time realised theyd lose if they got rid of it, so they didnt, and now they run minority control.

I don't feel like that's entirely accurate. The Liberals did indeed promise election reform, but the issue was that there was no way they could get everyone to agree what it should be.

Conservatives benefit the most from the current system and wouldn't approve any change to it.

The Liberals would basically never lose an election again if they got ranked ballot like they want.

The rest of the parties all want proportional representation, particularly the NDP as they often have far fewer seats than the popular vote indicates they should. Hell, the Green Party should have 22 seats based in popular vote compared to the 3 they actually got. This would make it so we'd never have a majority government ever again, which could be argued to be either a good or bad thing.

Basically, the Liberals knew they wouldn't get Ranked, and the current system is a lot better for them than proportional. The other parties wouldn't settle for ranked over proportional as it's only slightly better for them, so there was nothing left to discuss and the promise was scrapped.
