i feel like every player i get with a shitty attitude in ffxiv is a dungeon hero healer -- players that have level 66 dungeon content mastered so well that they have a strategy for every pull and they know the name of every attack, like, this is the content they live in.

with how they whine about every little thing i think they don't have enough to do. maybe it's the one-button dps rotation. maybe it's the fact that many of the tanks barely need them to heal them at all. maybe it's how speedrun dungeon comps don't even take healers.

i imagine some people may be trying to find very specific bits of information and therefore may be trying to avoid accidental exposure to other bits of information

The reason it works in Always Sunny is because they're not making jokes at the groups they're insulting, they're making fun of themselves of their characters ignorance and prejudices. This conveys a much different message than some conservative comedian who just insults trans people for 20 minutes.

It was... much rougher before, what with TP limiting physical moves and stance dancing.

air quotes on stance dancing. if you played a tank at the time, using your tank stance was worthless after like, the first two GCDs. you'd never go back. you'd mitigate some other way.

if you played a healer it was just a 'yes i can deal damage too' toggle in the form of cleric stance. which as you may have guessed involved no dancing and instead had a cooldown attached to it.

also TP was asinine and they had to give certain classes abilities to restore it. warrior had one and so did ninja, so ninjas could feed warriors more TP while they spammed their one-button rotation of overpower. there have been a handful of bad idea bandaids to the game design.

actually i don't mind if my tax money goes to people in need even if they're from *gasp* some other country.

i think the game that did collectibles best was donkey kong country 2, but that's primarily because they were implemented in such a way that once you got a feel for what the dev was doing you got an expectation as to where to look.

mark clever ideas you have in terms of hiding things and skill demands with collectibles. leave breadcrumbs for the players that are trying to get into your head, not busywork for players looking for a dopamine hit.

The perplexing part is how they can just stare at the light for three or four whole minutes.
