I wouldn't say it was that bad, but it certainly wasn't what we were hoping for when it was first announced. I was definitely hoping for another game like the original FFT that would have shown Ramza coming back in some way.

They do when trademark law gets involved, and one company literally changes the name of their character to not be what it used to be to compensate.

It's not like it matters, though. DC reboots its entire continuity so often nearly every single facet of "Shazam"'s personality and backstory is different from what it used to be anyway, so changing his name is about the least significant thing they've completely altered.

I have little sympathy for DC in this situation, though. The only reason they own the former Captain Marvel/current Shazam as a character in the first place is because they sued the company that actually created him out of business and then bought up their assets out of bankruptcy, and then they ignored the character for years because they didn't really give a shit about him, which is why they let trademark lapse. And then, after it became an issue, they still spent years whining about how unfair it was and throwing tantrums rather than just solving the problem the way they ultimately did anyway, by just changing the character's name (to something most people associate with the character more than his actual former name anyway).

How did they sue the company that created the character to bankruptcy?

First they tried the he's a rip off of Superman route that failed but then they went with some of his stories are rip offs of some of Supermans and for whatever reason that won.

Thing with the copyright with marvel though is dc is still allowed to call Shazam captain marvel they just can't use the name for promotional reasons I believe. Like the comic itself can't be called captain marvel.

Nope. It is completely illegal for DC to use the name Captain Marvel. Completely, absolutely and positively illegal.

Unless you are referring to characters that are specifically part of the Spiderman franchise and aren't associated with other characters then there won't be. Though I have heard that the mid credits scene really shows that Sony thinks Venom is good enough on his own to warrant a franchise. We shall see, but I pray that this will be another blunder by Sony because we know Marvel can make an awesome Venom movie that would include Spiderman as part of the origin but at this point unless Venom bombs that will never see the light of day.

Assuming that you take his badge away forever and block him from legally owning a gun for at least 20 years, he already stops being a threat to society. Our country is generally backwards when it comes to the justice system, giving far longer sentences than pretty much any other developed nation.

Yeah how are you going to prevent him from getting a gun if he isn't in prison for the remainder of his shitty life? Our current gun control laws are so lax that anyone can get a gun regardless of what they have done in the past or what their current mental state is like.

The problem there was that it got stuck in development hell too damn long. Had it starred Michelle Pfeiffer (Pfieffer? Pzisir? Pinsir?) and come out not long after Returns, it might have been a hit.

So I know there are some people around here that are considering going and seeing this movie. May I try to convince you otherwise? See, by going and seeing this movie you are reinforcing to Sony that what they are trying to do with Spider-man movies without involving Marvel is a good idea.

Now I know that Spider-man himself isn't going to be in Venom, but there is no Venom without Spider-man. In fact, just recently the director explained why there won't be any Spider logo on Venom's chest in the movie. You can find that stupidity here: https://bit.ly/2v3U2DR.

Until Sony starts losing money on each and every superhero movie they make and they are forced to hand the license back over to Disney/Marvel we are going to get stupidity like this in every single movie.
