There have been reasons why given in this topic (eg. stats on likelihood). I don't necessarily agree with where the line is drawn/why the line is drawn where it is, as my mind does go all-or-nothing and need explanations to every corner case, but it usually just what society is used to at this point in time, even if I differ from those values.
