I'd switch Tommy and Lauren on that. Last episode made it pretty clear that Lauren is the ringleader. Tommy could also end up as The Stealth Assassin depending on how things end up. And Inviso, I'm shocked that you didn't think Sandra is the perfect 10. I feel like it's pretty obvious when even her GC self is in the top 15.

Remember though, that it took like, 18 seasons of us running the "Save My Season Contest" contests before we got a female winner. This board tends to prefer male characters, so my guess was a male character that I didn't think would ruffle any feathers.

I think it's cyclical, Martin.

The show has increasingly moved away from standard storytelling, with a focus on characters and heroes and villains, to a new editing style where they seem to paint anyone who makes a lot of strategic moves as being "heroic", or at the very least, the ones we're supposed to root for. This leads to seasons where everyone is a free agent from day one, and seeks to betray their closest ally in order to add a big move to their resume. Then because the players play this way, the editors can't craft long-term storylines, so they focus on episodic editing and try to encourage #bigmoves and constant twists and idols. Then future players watch this editing, and decide that's the way they need to play the game. And it just goes on and on.

Also, the more I think about last night, the more frustrated I am as a whole, because that shit is emblematic of why Survivor has gone so far downhill.

Based on last night...who do the editors think we SHOULD be rooting for?

Dan, the creepy asshole who was accused to feeling women up earlier in the season, and then called the four people left at camp "losers" in front of his 13-year-old son?

Dean, the idiot who blew up his alliance's game at tribal council for seemingly no reason?

Elaine, the woman who, despite her first episode and episode six, has been a completely flat, background character?

Janet, the kind, older woman who has been shunted to the background despite there only being eight people left to divide screen time amongst?

Lauren, the only young girl left who was pretty bitchy about the "losers" today?

Noura, the lunatic who no one trusts and was apparently volatile enough to blow up a great plan?

Tommy, the smug douche who is apparently not as threatening as Lauren, yet was somehow saved?

This is why strategy for strategy's sake is lame. We have a collection of players who are either douchebags, or get shoved to the background because they're nice, but not strategists.

Did MvGX have individual jury speeches? I distinctly remember Jeff mentioning the change at the Game Changers FTC, but I just cannot picture any of the people from MvGX standing up and giving their own speech except for maybe David.

MvGX was the last season with individual speeches. That's a major reason why Chris was my least favorite character that season, because of the smug certainty that it was all Adam's doing that Ken and Hannah voted out David.

Inviso, I'm curious. You've really hated the Survivor casual audience for a while now, to the point where you're willing to root for Dan winning just to spite them (which obviously isn't happening, let's be honest). Why do you hate the audience so much? Who are you dealing with that has your feathers so ruffled?

It's not any individual. It's the fact that Survivor has taken a dramatic change since Cambodia (honestly, Cagayan, but Cambodia was Survivor's desperate attempt at recapturing the success of Cagayan, after SJDS and WA didn't go the way they wanted), and I think a lot of that is because the casual fanbase lap that shit up. Survivor has become increasingly focused on soulless, robotic gameplay, and it frustrates me to see that sort of thing rewarded, because then when it's NOT, the producers think that something is WRONG, so they make a dramatic shift to the game. Michele won, so fuck jury speeches. Adam and Sarah won, so we're adding a fire-making tiebreaker (even though the fans loved Adam's win). Ghost Island is a completely garbage season because the producers think the fans will be pleased by the tie vote ending...and they were right.

It's just tired of seeing generic, relatively inoffensive men getting rewarded by Survivor's format, and the casuals then build them up far more than they would an equivalent female player.

By the way I'm not even going to humor the idea that this is an acceptable opinion except to point out that even if I hated Mike (I don't), a Will > Mike result considering the events of the auction episode would've been absolutely disgusting.

It WOULD have been disgusting. But at least the fans wouldn't be fucking HAPPY that Will won. Mike created the scenario that lead to all the bullshit in WA, but then because he was a dumbass and got kicked out of his alliance, suddenly he becomes the American hero that needs to save the season (rather than one of the ACTUAL underdogs, who all got voted out in a row over the course of a goddamn MONTH).

I couldn't get to this point.

I will admit that quite frequently in a boring season of Survivor/TAR/BB there are times when I kinda hope the person I like more (or dislike less) gets eliminated because it would be the more interesting result or would have the less frustrating audience reaction, but I couldn't feel that way with Dan.

Tommy and Dean both suck though. It's like how I honestly think a Dan or Will win would've been preferable to Mike in WA.
