Accidental discharge and negligent discharge are two different things. I'm 99 percent sure this was the latter. Most likely he had the safety disengaged, and doesn't have much practice with trigger discipline using his left hand. He put the gun in his left hand, gripped it wrong, gun went off. Assuming I take him at his word it wasn't intentional.

This is on Rufo's twitter, but not in the Fox News screencap: it's missing the point about promotions a person of colour got passed over for going to a less qualified white person. Who gets to be famous is not an egalitarian process.

It is generally understood in creative fields that not everyone achieves fame to the same degree, even if they contributed more or less equally to what generated that fame. It is also generally understood that it's "who you know" and as long as you remain a good person to know for people who helped you along, you're probably doing more for them by accepting your 15 minutes than playing martyr.

This is what happened between Andy Kaufman and Bob Zmuda. Andy could have comfortably gone on to fame and fortune and left Bob selling road side vegetables for the rest of his life. Instead Andy spent time building up his career to a point where he could afford to bring in one of his old friends from the club circuit, and then did so. From that point on the two of them collaborated until Andy's "death". So maybe it's not a package deal at first, but that can change.

On the other hand, just moving on can also be acceptable. Maybe their stars didn't rise for a reason. Maybe they're too weird or not photogenic enough. Not everyone can or should make the transition from obscurity to spotlight and no one should be held back because of that.

Yeah I could be wrong on that one. The competitors themselves have been fine with or even supportive of the existing dress code. That said the dress code is at least slightly screwy in regards to differences between acceptable attire for male and female competitors. It's hard not to the idea that whoever wrote the rules basically didn't care what the men wore as long as the women wore very little. So I do expect that will change. The current trend for changes to the dress code have been optional IIRC, so maybe that trend will continue.

That's on the way out anyway. The LPGA changed its dress code a few years back because a lot of attractive lady golfers were wearing short skirts on the green and getting big on Instagram while developing a fanbase that did not "reflect a positive image for the sport."

Women's Volleyball is probably safe for the time being, as players have generally told the league to go fuck themselves when trying to make changes to regulation attire, but I suspect changes are coming sooner or later.

I have mixed feelings. These sporting events don't exist to titillate me, and whatever appeal they might have to my own prurient interests is purely secondary. So if they want to make changes to that, that is of course their prerogative. I can and do respect that, but I don't have to like it.

Well sure. The only reason the porn industry isn't making money like it used to is because production and distribution heavily favours demand without any ability for suppliers to control supply. It's not even a buyer's market, you don't even need to be a buyer to access supply. We're flipping that on its ear. If you want anything more tawdry than Game of Thrones or whatever a movie manages to slip into an R rating, you're going to have to go to a person.

Which now that I mention it, makes me wonder about the NC-17 rating, and TV programming blocks like Bleu Nuit.

From what I've heard, the implication seems to be that there's actually going to be strong PS4 backwards compatibility, but I've also heard some people talking (maybe just being wishful) about limited PS1 or PS2 compatibility. Which would be ironic for you, but which would work out perfectly for me.

Realistically, the PS5 should be able to just straight up software emulate the PS1, 2, and 3. PS3 emulation is far enough along to make games playable on PCs less powerful than the PS5.

Punk, and especially hardcore punk is one of those things I have a lot of near misses with. Like I have some Jello Biafra, but it's the country/western album he cut with Mojo Nixon (P.S. it's awesome). Metal has a lot of cross pollination: I'm more familiar with Danzig as a metal artist. I listen to Psychobilly which is punk's weird cousin. You get the idea.

This is extremely sensitive to the particular facts of the particular situation. Depending on the nature of the charge, and the type of evidence against you, you might be able to post bail, and you might be released on recognizance - which basically means they trust you to show up for court and they let you go home. The system is fucked up, I know people who were given RoR when they shouldn't have been and reoffended almost immediately, and I know people who were denied bail and held for several weeks awaiting trial on charges that would be thrown out within minutes of seeing a courtroom and should never have gotten that far.

This is what I'm talking about. He cooperated and he lived. He collected evidence of police misconduct, and is now building a case against them. It's shitty, but it's the best tool you have against asshole police violating your rights. His situation would not have been improved for running, or puffing up and shouting "Fuck outta here!"

The short answer to that is yes. Which is shitty.

If an officer says you are under arrest, you are under fucking arrest. You go along with it and sort it out with your lawyer after the fact. Once you are under arrest the only ways out are the fifth amendment and the second, and I think you know which of these two is more likely to go your way.

I would guess because this sort of incident is too uncommon to warrant the added mechanical complexity that would entail, but it's just as likely because people view accidents like this as being purely a product of stupidity and therefore resist the idea of implementing engineering-level controls to prevent them.

"Magazine Safety" where the gun will not fire without a magazine is a common but not universal feature. Not everyone appreciates mag safety. Some people want the option to fire the last round in the chamber in the middle of switching magazines. It wouldn't have saved this guy if Dumbass had an empty magazine in there, but it might have if the mag was out and he thought it was fully unloaded.

Personally, I would have simply given her the information and asked her what, if anything, she wanted to do with that. I'd give her the option to Anglicize at her discretion, but not outright ask her to do it. I can see why people think "antifa" doesn't even exist: it's not an unreasonable thing to think. Antifa aren't a monolithic group with a centralized leadership. They're people who share a loose set of beliefs and exchange tactics for civil disobedience with one-another. That said to say they aren't organized in any respect isn't accurate either. Going after "antifa" really means going after groups like BAMN. It means learning a new set of social groups for each city and state.

This isn't advice, it's just what works for me, with my temperament, and under my circumstances.

I try to never have a "zero percent" day. I do something, a-n-y-t-h-i-n-g. Even if I just poke my work with a stick. In your case, write one line of fiction. Do a five minute code tutorial. That sort of thing. You can't count on motivation. You can't always wait around until you have an internal wellspring of enthusiasm. You need a system for dealing with that. Some people use routines. Maybe routine works for you, and part of the problem is you don't have one (or worse you do, and it's not being respected by external forces). I'm terrible with routine, I find it just one more thing I have to keep in my head.

Having a to-do list helps with this. Having a to-do list with incremental progress indicators instead of binary done/not-done helps even more. I use "mind mapping" software (specifically Free Mind) to keep track of my shit. If I'm feeling lost, I literally have a map. Some days the one productive thing I do is update the map so I know what I have to tackle tomorrow. As long as I don't fall into a trap of making maps every day this can really keep me focused. It also encourages me to think about the smallest parts of my work, which keeps the day to day tasks of manageable size.
