Don't try to tell me that decorating a big tree with mistletoe and holly during the Winter Solstice isn't nature worship. Christmas is easily lumped in with all the other Winter Solstice celebrations.
Especially since early Christianity specifically hopped on that bandwagon so that their new holiday would gain traction more easily. No backsies!

I liked that one more than the first. Still kinda setting up the settings/characters, so it's hard to tell where it's gonna go, but it feels like it could be fun.

Maybe they should have telegraphed a bit better where all the clues were. If you leave the game files open in Steam, it drops temporary messages and files in there over the course of the game, and it kept me interested enough to keep going.

Then again, I was told that "the girl you reject kills herself" and "it's meta so you can delete the girls' character data". Basically ruined by that point, but I wouldn't have touched a dating visual novel thing otherwise.

I think you're underestimating how damaging stress is on a young mind. Many people never recover from a stressful upbringing. Your brain regulates itself during that period to best adapt to that environment, and if everything is a constant threat then your brain begins hacking itself up to find a solution.

A lot of research is turning up which says that stress during childhood is strongly related to the sharp increases in ADHD, Anxiety, and Depression diagnoses we're seeing. They're like maladaptations of the brain, in order to cope with the immense demands we place on it. Eventually it starts specializing at schooling (rapidly swapping tasks, dismissing information shortly after learning it, dissociating from the constant boring situations, avoiding contemplation of the future, etc) instead of life, because adapting is what young brains do.

Truth be told, the symptoms of starting school a year earlier than normal are pretty similar to the symptoms of childhood trauma.

Maybe try duelingbook.com for Yugioh. It's basically just Dueling Network from a few years back if you were ever into that.
It's one of the only ways I've found to actually follow a card game. Live streams or anything similar makes it so I can't read the cards, and I don't have all the cards memorized so I lose interest in most formats within moments.

It's nothing professional though. No announcers or anything. Just a game that has a spectate mode.

Absolutely yes for mechanics. The interaction between crit and status procs on armored enemies when you get a headshot can get a bit hard to guess at, and some games expect you to know that stuff to perform at end-game. (Warframe in this example.)

For normal puzzles/challenges, if the game is super linear and there's only one way to bypass something and I'm just not getting it and there's nothing else to do, I'll look it up in defeat. Not worth missing the entire rest of the game if that's the alternative.

Well, if the quantum mind is to be believed, then in a way yeah. Hitting a button can split into multiple universes, each one with a different number on the RNG. If the universes split out because a quantum superposition collapses, and the brain's decision-making is partly quantum, then it's a reasonable thing to investigate.

Maybe there's a way to influence which universe you split into?
Or maybe this is all the next generation of phrenology.

Find another way to phrase it that doesn't use words with strong connotations. If people are writing you off without properly listening to you, it's because they think they already know what you're gonna say. Make your word choice less conventional so they have to listen through to the end before they can put a label on what you're saying.

For instance, never describe Utilitarianism as "the ends justify the means". That's what it is technically, but people will stop listening as soon as they hear that expression because they think they understand the nuance when they don't.

You'll have to actually convince them yourself afterwards. I recommend evidence and intelligence. But in order to get people to listen to you in the first place, you have to maneuver around their filters.

A key factor in deciding if that line has been crossed is whether in-game items acquired via a game of chance can be considered money or moneys worth. In practical terms this means that where in-game items obtained via loot boxes are confined for use within the game and cannot be cashed out it is unlikely to be caught as a licensable gambling activity. In those cases our legal powers would not allow us to step in.

Reminds me of how the game hall and the prize hall are technically different companies in Pachinko parlors. Since you can't cash out the chips in the game hall, it's not gambling. There's another company down the street that trades chips for prizes and money, but you can't call merely cashing in chips "gambling" either. And, of course, there are no laws against two companies buying and selling to each other.

Am I misunderstanding, or isn't this pretty much the exact same ruling? They're saying that because players can only sell the e.g. Platinum to third parties, instead of the company running the game, it's not gambling.

Math is still basic all the way through 12th grade. I distinctly remember having to tutor a 10th grader on algebra and calculus, and she wasn't particularly dumb. And seriously, how many people do you know who actually understand statistics? The Monty Hall problem gives a pretty simple look at how math can help inform even simple-seeming choices.

Egyptian history is interesting and relevant. They managed to grow great and powerful by putting nearly all of their industry along the Nile River. As it would flood yearly and deposit sediment along the banks, the soil was extremely rich for agriculture. These basic principles are still true today. Many many many cities today are on riverbanks, having learned from the past.

But, okay, maybe you specifically aren't ever going to need to understand how agriculture changes everything. That's why we say that the smart kids will use it and the rest won't. Since we don't know ahead of time which kids are even going to be able to meaningfully contribute to society, we've found (through rigorous testing over the course of forever) that giving everyone access to this knowledge creates the best forward progress for society as a whole. Because a ton of people use that information.

Also, most places allow students to drop out of high school. If high school just really isn't for someone, and their guardian agrees, then they don't have to "waste their time".

Cars and mortgages aren't "the real world". They're the current fads of society. Even if those fads coincidentally last your whole life, you can't know that ahead of time. Your schooling should be preparing you with the fundamentals you need to survive and understand any situation, and to even create new situations.

A combination of math and physics should teach you enough for you to figure out cars, if you choose to do so. And when cars are made obsolete, the same math and physics will prepare you to get the gist of hovermobiles. Basic reading is enough to figure out taxes, and basic math is enough for handling budgeting.

That said, the fact that you don't think history is relevant to you, and could inform your decisions today, is a bit worrying. You may have just gone to a terrible school?
