Hunchback as is ends up being almost perfect. Beautiful music, gorgeous scenery, a fantastic story, and some occasional great comedy.

The problem for me is the comedy tends too often to interrupt some very powerful emotional moments. The gargoyles in the beginning really mess up the beautiful but haunting tone of the opening. Esmerelda's chase through the feast, while a fun scene, lessens the harrowing moment Quasimodo experiences before. The gargoyle song is truly awful.

But that isn't to say I want a take on it that's all harshness and depression. Instead of talking to the gargoyles, why not let the intro carry into a quieter display of Quasimodos passions in his little world? Show off his genuinely sweet personality and how interested he is in the world outside his tower.

Instead of a slapstick chase scene, why not show off one that really emphasizes how clever Esmerelda is. She's really a fucking awesome character, and imo one of the best female role models Disney has. The right actress could seriously put OK ut a fantastic performance and start a real career off something like that.

Plus, I'd love to see what a great visual director could do with the sheer spectacle the movie could allow. The bell tower could be an astoundingly detailed and breathtaking set since it's going to be where the vast majority of the movie is set. Show off some real beauty to contrast the darkness in the actual story. And the setpieces for the feast of fools and the court of miracles have stich astounding potential for visual and technical magnificence. The movie could be very different from the animated version and more than justify being made if the right effort is put into it.

That's assuming Disney were to actually try :/

I visited five below for the first time ever over christmas after hearing about it a bunch from my Fiancee. First thing I saw in there was $10. I've never felt so cheated.

I once, as a new guitar player, went to a store to get a capo. I grabbed a box off the shelf, paid a few dollars, got home, and opened it. About two dozen capos were inside. The box was a dispenser.

The books are fantastic. The games are mediocre at best.

I played one on PC that had one of the worst pixel hunts I've ever experienced. You had to take a key from your inventory and click pixel perfectly on the hole of a chest. If you missed, your character dropped the key and you have to either reload a save or hunt to pick up the key again.

Oh, the entire Shin Megami Tensei series owes its existence to a short series of novels written in the late 80s by Aya Nishitani.

I feel like there's a lot of Japanese stuff I'm familiar with but unaware it's based on books. I didn't know The Ring was based on a book until last year, now I wanna read the trilogy.

It completely changed the tone for both characters, and neither really recovered. Which is a shame, because General Hux was one of the best villains in the franchise historyhat.

You shouldn't. If someone's bothered by something, trying to dismiss it doesn't help.

Instead, teach that attractiveness is less about physical features and more about personality and confidence. Practicing putting yourself out there, talking to people, and being a general friend to people does way more good than focusing on looks.

He may or may not have stolen it, but I can vouch as someone who did retail for years, those get left on more often than you'd think.

Had snow on the ground, but it didn't snow the entire time I was there, except an overnight sprinkling :(

Yeah I get that what made the original so good is the fantastic writing and how it played with so many tropes of the horror genre. I've heard a lot of concerns about how a sequel would be needless, just rereading old territory, but I honestly think in this case that's an awful argument.

The premise of Cabin I'm the Woods has so much potential that it could easily make a dozen movies without getting old. Set it in other countries and explore the history of horror in other cultures. Shift the focus onto the background workers and the impact of what they do. Ignore the more self aware aspects and give us a movie that just seeks to feel satisfying without worrying about a greater meaning. There are so many options for a fun movie with this, and I'd love to see various directors take a stab at this.
