Wrote this writeup in /r/metal, figured i'd share it here too.

Show Report: Heathen/Arrival of Autumn/Primal Enemy @ X-Ray Arcade.

First show at this venue since they finished rebuilding the bar, the Arcade part of the bar is working again, lost all my quarters within 10 minutes, 10/10 would recommend.

***Primal Enemy***

Local band i'd never heard of before tonight, solid 30 minute set of what might be described as Pizza Thrash, their album cover is literally them coming out of a Sewer grate.

Straight up Metalcore, not my thing at all and not sure why they're on tour with an old school Bay area thrash band, probably one of the loudest bands i've seen in that venue, to the point where i had to make sure my earplugs hadn't fallen out, crowd just kind of looked confused and stayed near the back of the bar despite the singer trying his best to encourage the crowd to move up and move around, ok set, not my thing.

David White is 60 years old and still sounds better than a lot of frontmen i've seen recently that are 1/3rd his age, rest of the band was amazing as well, not really much explanation needed, it's Heathen, it's thrash, it's good.

***The Crowd***

Possibly the worst crowd i've seen at a metal show, for both openers the majority of the crowd stayed a good 40 feet from the stage, back by the bar, a few good souls tried to rile them up and start a pit, but it ended up just looking sad, and during the Heathen set the drummer from Primal Enemy was apologizing for his friend bumping into an annoyed front row, this show deserved a better crowd than it ended up getting.

***Final Thoughts***

This show needed another band more similar in style to Heathen and Primal Enemy, sending out a full on metalcore band on tour with a thrash band was a mistake, and it kinda brought the vibe down, Arrival of Autumn is solid, but it would be like , say, having Carcass open for Ghost, just a clash of styles and fanbases.

But Heathen was well worth the $15 i paid for admission, and supporting local venues is always worth it.

Good.

Right on. I haven't been to a metal show for a while.

I used to go into the city for shows all the time when I was younger, but these days I only go a few times a year and it's usually for punk shows. I still love metal though.

I wouldn't even go to maybe 1/10th of as many shows as i do if i didn't live in Milwaukee and within 5 miles of both small venues that host a lot of local and small touring bands (Mainly X-Ray Arcade and Cactus Club), big halls that host Mid-Major touring bands (The Rave/Turner Hall) and the largest arena in the upper midwest (Fiserv Forum)

If i lived even 20-30 miles out into the sticks i doubt i would have even gotten into live music.

Never heard of them but I love that the drummer has an Iskra shirt.

They've been together less than a year, and one of the guitar players manages the Music go Round i buy my gear at.

The other bands there were great too, the only issue is that the venue was maybe 30x30, so there was no room to move around at all really.

This claim has already been made multiple times in multiple courts and defeated each time. Facebook and Google in particular have already defeated it in one of the circuits that allows at least some claims based on third party content posted on these platforms.

This completely ignores the fact that the Supreme Court is rigged in such a way that even the slightest crumb of plausibility means that the regressive opinion will be the majority.

Until 2 or more of the bought justices croak or are "Encouraged" to retire, this country is in deep shit.

Midnight, Allegaeon, High Command, and Phobophilic are cool but thats basically all I got

I'm gonna be honest yet again and firmly say that this lineup is not even close to being worth what The Rave is charging.

I've seen some of those bands playing shows at the X-Ray for $10-15 with several other bands on the bill, and the headliners are nothing that won't come through The Rave or The Sylvee again fairly soon for considerably less money, hell, if you really want to see Lamb of God for whatever reason, they're opening for "Pantera" in July, and you can get tickets for $20, and it's at a much better venue.

Because they realized that they can spend 1/20th of the budget of a movie on a half-assed TV series and make the same amount from Disney+ subs.

Why does it look like the effects budget was $20?

This followed by Gojira/Mastodon at the same venue a week apart.

Ehh... that was bad. I looked into it and it seems that song is more of a fan service for Germany, It looks like it might be a bonus track or something on their next album.

Anyway, I still can't believe Eric Adams is 70 years old and still sings like that, plus he still looks jacked and has his hair. Still touring around the world and selling out stadiums. I guess Rob Halford is similar in age and does the same thing, but still it must be tough!
