The reason I call him the GoT is because a lot of people ITT seem to be overlooking the fact that he was very popular for years before his meltdown. That's not to trivialize those who had issue with him before that, oftentimes for legitimate reason (there were warning signs to his more negative aspects, and I say that as someone who was a friend of his).

I agree with this. He was a mainstay regular for years, active through the tinychat era and megathreads and all that good social stuff. He always had a dry, direct, humor, but it was never like what happened in that topic. That wasn't humorous at all.

Arctic and I got along for years on this board, actually. I remember when we had fun conversations about drinking rum. I never harassed him, and he never harassed me until that day. He obviously took the loss of his father very hard, and I believe I tried to directly suggest that he take a break from posting because he was being very aggressive (more so than usual). Apparently that deserved death threats and abuse in return.

I don't even know if I have the PMs related to that mess anymore. I can barely remember what happened, but he definitely offended Kana and me with direct abusive comments out of nowhere. We never had any problems communicating until that thread.

Which, really, is the distinction that folks that haven't moved on from the Cold War struggle with. Implementing socialist policies - even significant, society-altering ones - does not mean abandoning all non-socialist government. There are elements of socialism that work well and elements that don't. There are elements of capitalism that work well and elements that don't. This is not an all-or-nothing deal; a country can very easily incorporate elements from one system to complement strengths or shore up weaknesses of others.

"Socialism bad" contributes nothing to such optimization efforts. Nor does "Capitalism bad." Governments and societies are vastly more nuanced than that, and attempting to pretend otherwise is indescribably foolish.

Absolutely. We really need to stop trying to summarize complex systems and operations into catch-all buzzwords, as it seems to further drive people away understanding issues at their core parts. I know not everyone has the time or energy to dedicate to studying these topics, so I'm not trying to "well actually" when I offer corrections.

Late Thursday night, Columbus-based firm Porter Wright Morris & Arthur notified a federal judge hearing a Trump-filed suit over the election tallies in Pennsylvania that the firm is seeking to pull out of the case.

Plaintiffs and Porter Wright have reached a mutual agreement that Plaintiffs will be best served if Porter Wright withdraws, and current co-counsel and such other counsel as Plaintiffs may choose to engage represent Plaintiffs in this case, the filing said.
It is highly unusual for a major law firm to seek to withdraw its representation of a client in litigation so soon after it commenced. The suit in question, before U.S. District Court Judge Michael Brann in Williamsport, Pa., was filed just four days ago.

Trump's campaign, meanwhile, lashed out at the law firm for backing out.
Cancel Culture has finally reached the courtroom," said Trump campaign communications director Tim Murtaugh in a statement. "Leftist mobs descended upon some of the lawyers representing the Presidents campaign and they buckled." He added, "The Presidents team is undeterred and will move forward with rock-solid attorneys to ensure free and fair elections for all Americans.

Last week, another law firm representing the Trump campaign in similar litigation Arizona-based Snell & Wilmer moved to withdraw from an election-related lawsuit over results there. A judge granted the firms request on Tuesday.

So Project Vertias manage to convince the guy to recant on his testimony. That guy is so screwed. This isn't the police or FBI he's dealing with, it's the Postal Inspection Service. Postal Inspectors are right up there with the IRS on the "How Boned Are You" scale.

Either he lied to federal investigators when he signed the affidavit, or he lied to PV and its viewers in that video. PV is also trying to raise money behind this man's story.

Barr subsequently authorized federal prosecutors to open probes into credible allegations of voting irregularities and fraud, a reversal of long-standing Justice Department policy.
But on Monday, Hopkins, 32, told investigators from the U.S. Postal Services Office of Inspector General that the allegations were not true, and he signed an affidavit recanting his claims, according to officials who spoke on the condition of anonymity to describe an ongoing investigation. Democrats on the House Oversight Committee tweeted late Tuesday that the whistleblower completely RECANTED.
The Erie postmaster, Rob Weisenbach, called the allegations 100% false in a Facebook post and said they were made by an employee that was recently disciplined multiple times.
The Erie Post Office did not back date any ballots, Weisenbach wrote.
The Postal Service inspector generals office informed members of Congress in a briefing on Tuesday that Hopkins had recanted his allegations, according to a congressional aide. The investigators first interviewed Hopkins on Friday, the aide said.

Hard to believe rhetoric like "it doesn't matter just vote" when you got people remarking how problematic it is that Trump so many votes or he got votes from demographics that people think owe allegiance the other way.

You don't get to encourage every vote then disparage people for their vote. It's bull.

At the end of the day, I prefer a voter to a non-voter. We can get into disagree on policy and moral differences all day, but I was raised to always vote in every election I could, and I think it's a shame that the US voter participation rates aren't higher. I try not to disparage people for their voter preferences, but as adjl said, people are obviously going to have opinions on said preferences.
