Oh wow, I just noticed this video posted as a response to that twitter post.



Not only does that bring back so many memories but I had forgotten how great some of themes were. They're altered versions of those themes of course, but that game had a really good soundtrack.

But yea, I know it's not the same type of game I was only trying to make a statement. (Though technically you can block in River City games too which is really the one I was using as an example. ;p)

However, yes I will agree that having no way of defending yourself isn't fun, that being the case I'd rather them actually give some defensive counterplay and have enemies swarm me than to have no defensive counterplay and have them come at me 1 at a time. DD IV having no way of doing this was a huge oversight on their part.

When all of the enemies are on top of you, they can knock you down, hover over your body, and knock you down immediately again when you stand up because they're all throwing attacks out randomly and you'll definitely stand up into a hitbox from ONE of them


the only way to inflict damage is to do a wake up attack like the hyper knee but the invincibility only lasts for like 2 frames, you'll hit a few of them but then they'll start attacking you and because you're in the air, you'll be knocked down again. Rinse and repeat

When I'm down to my last character and I have Cable spamming projectiles and Blackheart/Sentinel coming in every second preventing me from doing anything I don't complain. I like the challenge, even if it's an unfair challenge.

Now I'm not saying that has to be how the game always is, but I'd love a higher difficulty setting where it was like that. Obviously they messed up by forcing that difficulty on people, but I'd at least like it to be an option if i want to play that way.

As much as I loved the old Double Dragon games, I really wish the River City games didn't have that Kung Fu Mentality. I know when I played River City Ransom EX and had 4v4 fights going I wish the computer had been a lot more aggressive.

You know that Kung Fu trope where only a few guys from a large group attack you at once? That was present in the earlier games to balance it out to keep you from getting your ass kicked. Most beat em ups have that!

TBH, I wish more beat-em-ups didn't have that.

Well, disappointing doesn't necessarily mean bad. It just means it wasn't as good as you hoped it would be.

Yea I know but Suikoden 3 gets a lot more flak than it deserves. By no means would I put it anywhere near the level of 2, but I feel like a lot of the negativity it gets is just because it followed 2 and was so different and if it didn't bare the Suikoden name it wouldn't have been looked down on so much. Really that's where the huge disappointment for me came into play as I had recently come off playing Suikoden 1 and 2 for the first time and was expecting more of the same but potentially better and they were very different, so much so that I almost quit playing the game about an hour in.

Oh hey, since we've been taking about Mario RPGs lately, was the Mario & Luigi/Paper Mario crossover one any good? It felt like that one came and went with no fanfare.

Funny you should ask about that as I actually just completed this game last night.

To be honest I thought the story was nothing but wasted potential but the actual gameplay was pretty fun. It is great to see the characters from their separate worlds interact with each other but it never amounts to what it could and should have. The plot does obviously put a huge emphasis on the paper aspect but it's really hard to explain what was so disappointing about it without you playing it yourself. So I guess as far as story goes, don't go into it with any expectations because it's a very simple and basic story.

Gameplay on the other hand was a lot of fun for me. I loved having 3 characters in battle and the fact that paper mario felt different from the others in the way he played. A lot of the actual mechanics in the battles themselves was pretty enjoyable to figure out/overcome. I also hear some people complain about the "quests" in this game but I actually enjoyed them and I won't spoil anything about it here. The only downside I saw to the gameplay was the Papercraft Battles which is this things "signature" new battle type much like how Dream Team had the giant Luigi. Personally, I didn't like the Papercraft Battles at all, but thankfully they don't take up a lot of time.

Overall, I wouldn't say it's the best of the Mario and Luigi series, but definitely not the worst either. I'd give it a shot. If you can just get past the story itself not ever coming close to what it should have been I think you'll enjoy it.

They're only about 4 years apart. Anyone who's played both around the time of their release isn't going to be nostalgic for only one of them.

That being said, I have to agree with Tom. Super Mario RPG is my favorite game and I didn't care for Paper Mario. (Though TTYD is awesome)

That game legitimately made me question whether the previous games were just as blah and I just never noticed as a kid or if the game itself was just bad.

I owned all 3 Golden Sun games before I finished the first one and played them pretty much back to back. After the 1st and 2nd I still wanted more, but I couldn't even finish the 3rd game because there was something about it that just didn't keep me interested. I'm not quite sure what it was, but I'd still be willing to back and play the first 2 again, I'm not sure if I'll ever give the 3rd another shot.

I think the only terrible ones here are Search Man, and to a lesser degree Chill Man. Spring Man is also not a theme I really care for but it's not bad. The rest are fine.

Yea I've seen a few levels that used the double Robot Master glitch. Each time I play one I'm disappointed that the level ends after I kill only one of them. =/

Yea it was really weird when I discovered it too. I was going through pages of maps and my game started having connections issues and ended up freezing on that one page where I couldn't scroll through the list anymore. I decided to just go ahead and play one of the maps on that page for something to do and just happened about that particular one.

As soon as I saw it I was excited to see enemies from Mega Man 9 as I had heard nothing about them being added, so as soon as I beat the level I went to the map editor only to find that I couldn't add those enemies but I could move the ones already placed.

I checked out their twitter and some stuff on the Discord and I saw nothing mentioned about the addition of those enemies, so I don't know what's up with that map.

What was the stage ID. I must see this for myself.

Unfortunately I don't know...

I did download it though to see if I opened it if I could use these enemies but I couldn't. It was 3 enemies and while I could move them around on the map I couldn't place any more of them.

I voted for Tomahawk Man. I figured Air Man was gonna get a few votes so I wanted give something else a fair shot.

Air Man's theme is a choice theme I'll agree but there are still a couple others here that deserve some attention.

I was considering voting Air Man, but after I saw how easily he was winning I decided to throw my vote at another theme I felt deserved a vote.

It was difficult because I feel 6 of these deserve votes. In the end, I went with Freeze Man and I imagine I'll be his only vote here.

No surprise in that regard. I figured you were one of the votes there. I think I'm more surprised alternatively because I think you are pretty much the only person I have ever seen praise 5 as much as you do.

It's ok and all but it just doesn't compare to 2, 3, 4, 6 and 9 imo. It dominates over 1, 7 and 8 though and there probably are not many folks that would disagree there. It's about equal with 10 I think personally like in the way that some of it is good and the rest is acceptable. Neither of those is really stellar for me though honestly.

Now when you say I'm praising 5, are you talking about the game itself or the music?

Also no, tons of people like 5. The general consensus of course is that of the original 6, 2 and 3 are the best, but I see more people say 5 being #3 than any of the others.

I also think you're being too harsh on 7 and 8, but I do at least know that those are 2 of the lesser liked ones.

To be honest, I think doing a "Save My" would have been more accurate of Board 8's opinion if you wanted that. Obviously I think it would be somewhat less accurate for the middle eliminations but I think the top and bottom themes would be more accurate.

The most accurate way of doing so would be doing 1on1 matches. The more options you have in a match the least accurate it is of the overall votals.

Mega Man 8 isn't all bad themes, but it is in the bottom 3 overall OST's as far as the original Mega Man 10 go.

I'd say Grenade and Tengu are great, Frost is ok. The rest are meh to bad.
