The Red Wings win against the Blackhawks last night got them to 37 points. Good news! That means they no longer have to worry about matching the lowest point total ever among Red Wings seasons. That honor will still lie with the 1937-38 Detroit Red Wings, who finished with 35.points (in 48 games). Detroit also had a 28 point season when they were Cougars, but it's more fun to only include their 87 seasons as the Red Wings here.

Also, while I was looking over past seasons just now, I just... can we talk about how fucked up the playoff bracketing was back in the late 30's/early 40's? 6 teams made the playoffs, and the matchups were 1st vs 2nd, 3rd vs 4th, and 5th vs 6th. The 3/4 winner would face the 5/6 winner, and then the Stanley Cup Finals would be the winner of the 1/2 matchup against the winner of the 3rd-6th place teams.

Once the league fell to just the original 6 teams, the bracket was still 1 vs 3 and 2 vs 4. It even stayed that way through the 60's expansion. It wasn't until after '71, when Minnesota intentionally lost games to drop from 3rd to 4th and earn an easier first round matchup did anyone realize that this maybe wasn't the best format.

Believe it or not, but following these trades, the Red Wings look even worse than before.

Like, they were on a power play, and spent half of it in the defensive zone. When they finally started attacking and set up in the offensive zone, Filppula took the puck behind the Devils net, and completely skied a pass over his wide open teammates.

I'm happy with the moves the Red Wings made today. Athanasiou got about what was expected, and getting anything at all for Green is a win. We got a free waiver pickup that has a chance to turn into something decent, and Gagner at least should slot into the lineup better than half of our current forwards, making the remaining games still kind of watchable.

Canadiens blow a 3-1 lead to the Red Wings, and the Wings won every game in the series this year. Canadiens capped off this game by Joel Armia taking a dumb penalty away from the play with just over two minutes left.

More fun Red Wings stats after tonight's 3-0 loss to the Flyers! Athanasiou returned from an injury and was on the ice for all three goals.

They let in 2 shorthanded goals tonight, which puts them at 11 for the season, the most in the league. Red Wings have scored 24 power play goals and 3 shorthanded, while allowing 44 power play goals and 11 shorthanded. That means they've been more than doubled up on special teams scoring this year.

A loss in their next game will give Detroit two separate ten-game losing streaks this season.

The Pacific division is pretty nuts right now too. No team is great, but they're all close. Edmonton is currently 5th place in the division, but a win would jump them to 1st.

DQ11 was a big surprise for me. I've always found the series to range between "okay" and "good", with 5 maybe standing out as "very good". But after playing 11, I can say that if I made another games list, it would safely slot into the top ten.

One thing that really made it great for me was that the game didn't have that "one special moment", that high point where the story just blows your mind or feels magical or it all comes together or twists everything on its side. Instead, it had several moments that hit really strong, and gave all the characters chances to shine through big events. Couple that with it being the most mechanically strong game in the series, like you said. And then, for all the things this game does and the length it takes on, it doesn't do anything poorly or wrong. It never felt like 11 had a low point to me.

Catching up on some stuff here.

I remember Brothers being good, but I apparently forgot quite a bit about the game, including the specifics of why it hit so hard and I enjoyed it at the time. Maybe I should replay it some day.

SF4 would slot into my top ten, as you can probably imagine. I was on the same level as you with all that early hype/interaction/etc. Then the game really became special for me as it gave me an outlet to be competitive with games in my "I'm too old and not staying in shape for DDR" post-rhythm game competitive years.

I really enjoy SFV too, but not quite as much as 4. V was great at first, because it changed some mechanics to match my style of play, but then things became kind of stale and the attitudes of everyone else made it hard to keep playing. Recent changes have all made the game more fun again, but it hasn't yet worked its way back up to how I felt about 4 for that several year time period.

At the Michigan Masters tournament earlier this year, there was a SF4 setup in the 24 hour gaming room. I jumped on after the SFV tournament was done, and played some games against some old 4 rivals, and it was just... such a wave of wonderful feelings. The magic never left SF4.

I played Hollow Knight early this year, and really really liked it. A lot of those "like it or hate it" things were right up my alley and did add to the game in ways I wanted. I understand where they would bother other players, though. I did get annoyed at the end when I tried to re-explore to find missed things, because the map is total garbage for that.
