Like if obeying the suspension means you lose your livelyhood, then basically everyone will drive on a suspended license. So it doesn't actually keep people off the road. And the people most likely to repeatedly offend, will keep offending. But because the license is suspended, they won't put breathalizers on your cars because you theoretically shouldn't be driving. I think it would be better to do a mandated breathalizer on a car and have your license on probation so that any further driving infractions have increased punishments. That would do a better job of preventing the people most likely to repeat offend from doing so, while also not financially ruining people who are one-offs. On a first offense DUI charge here in Arizona no matter what your license gets suspended, you'll later have to put a breathalyzer in and it's guaranteed you'll spend at least one day in jail. --- "I woke up at four am by accident in time for the paper to be delivered.
