sorry to everyone but i am going to classify ps2 as old

tried playing jak and daxter 1 and had to stop after an hour. same with star wars republic commando. star wars pod racing holds up alright altho it is too easy (except for last cup which is like pixel perfect difficult - think i read the ps1 version was used instead of n64 and there's a difference in difficulty there). also had to stop banjo kazooie cuz too much collecting shit but i lasted longer in that due to nostalgia (never played jak 1 or SWRC as a kid).

i dont really care about "plot holes" or, what you're really describing, plot contrivances. because every video game, book, movie, and so forth is full of those. its more dialogue and characters being bad all the time.

Each sentence sounds like you're asking for a different thing. You listed Rocket League which doesn't have dialogue at all as a good example, in which case anything that is "pure gameplay" could qualify and there are thousands of good games to choose from.

You asked for "non terrible writing" which implies you want it to have decent to good writing, but now I can't tell if you meant "doesn't have terrible writing", which is a different thing

really its just the dialogue and boring characters. something like horizon zero dawn has really, really bad writing. just beat battlefield 1 and that was embarrassing. pretty sure anything with dialogue trees like mass effect or elder scrolls is bad.

i just don't want to think about this while playing a game. either be good or have next to no storytelling so i'm not rolling my eyes during cut scenes. not a lot to ask imo.

looking for something to play. here are the requirements

i'd prefer it to be video game-y. by this i mean i do not want a giant open world or a bunch of crafting and skill trees. should be goofy or fun or fast-paced. think yakuza 0, doom, earth defense force, spelunky, rocket league, etc. only open world stuff i like is smaller stuff like yakuza 0 or the recent spiderman games really.

it cannot have dog shit writing. basically all games have bad writing. if they have next to no writing and do minimal storytelling then that is ok (journey, stray, outer wilds, mario) or if the focus isn't on story (for example most fps). examples of good writing include the aforementioned yakuza 0 and the last of us 2. think that is all i have for good examples.

also would appreciate if it were good.

misc games i like besides the ones mentioned include the witness, titanfall 2, splinter cell chaos theory, portal, half life 2, sly cooper series, shadow of the colossus, uncharted, hitman

My last apt complex was fairly pricey but not too crazy and in the single bedroom area that I lived in there was pretty constantly an expectation of being able to hear partying going on during the weekend in the complex.

Current complex is legitimately pricey and the lack of hearing the partying is honestly the biggest difference with the trade-up in price.

we are paying pretty below market rate for our neighborhood (in nyc)

expecting to hear neighbors is just kind of a given imo but this guy is new to nyc

go over during the party to ask them to turn it down cuz you work tmrw
go over the next day and explain you work on weekends and would like the volume a few notches lower
complain to the landlord right away
complain to the landlord if it persists after asking (in either scenario)
call the police after asking them to be quieter
call the police before doing any of that

also guess which one my roommate did last night and ironically woke me up at 2am with the noise he was making

i live in nyc. usually take the train so obv not seeing much.

i take the cab sometimes and have not seen one accident.

thinking that arnold playing a terrifying robot from the future in a lean thriller taking place in grimy nighttime los angeles is better than arnold doing quips and acting like some nerd kid's pet dog while doing big action scenes during the DAY in a 2.5 hour action movie isn't trolling its just my opinion.

Yeah I fear TCM isn't long for the world with Zaslav. I think he already tried to do some shit but got pushback from several big directors.

they just got a 'turner classic movies tour' at the wb studio lot. tcm's film festival is happening this week. they're still doing their cruise and wine club. they just started two for one, a new double feature program they are doing with scorsese, spielberg, pta, spike, rian, and so forth all summer. it's fine. not a big deal. they even rehired several people who got laid off a year ago since the backlash was so severe.

I honestly always thought AMC was better at this game than TMC was. And that's just standalone on them picking out old movies to reshow on tv.

i am too young to remember amc as a movie channel. except that i saw the good the bad and the ugly on there... with commercials... which made it like four hours. maybe the first time i watched a pre 70s movie except for some old disney stuff and wizard of oz. had four stars on the broadcast info tho so i was like fuck it lets do this. blew my mind. decided to track down the other old four star movies and dvr them which was of course mostly all over tcm. plus some of sundance and ifc channels when they were also commercial free.

yeah they went from old timey logos and jazz to... pastel/neon colors and beats. a sans serif logo. i remember a bumper they debuted not longer after the rebrand featuring a zoomer couple cuddling on the couch while watching the goodbye girl. as if zoomer couples are watching tcm together. this is a scenario that has never happened, mega_mana. this was back in late '21 btw.

there's less sun to hurt your eyeballs compared to when you would normally look at it. cuz let's be honest - we have all looked at the sun a couple times. and we can all still see. not a big deal.

ive had a patty and buns burger before

always hold tomatoes. those are gross and just make it a soggy mess. unless theyre heirloom. those are good. cheese is ok i guess. usually old it. some kind of sauce is nice but not necessary. i like lemon aioli especially. onion is ok if it is very thin and only like two or three rings. just get a hint of it. don't need overpowering onion taste. lettuce is fine. mixed on pickles.

anyway if you are a young person who wants to see more movies, it is a better resource than, say, the imdb or letterboxd 250. i checked the 2002 list a lot when i was first getting into cinema.

however the 2022 list was kind of embarrassing
