TopicAnyone know anything about cerebral palsy testing?
anttttt

(i'm probably just gonna ramble. Sorry if whatever I say is pointless or unhelpful)

  • It's important to know the severity of the disability. Some people can't walk at all, some people are mostly entirely paralyzed on the left side, while other people just have more general motor skills. I can walk with issues and my left arm and hand are pretty useless outside of hugging an object between the arm and chest. It took me until 3rd grade to get consistent and putting on clothes. There are things I still can't do, like putting on gloves. My skin is pretty sensitive to heat, I can't really bend, and my face can't crack a full smile
  • I don't really remember much about testing since that was so long ago. I remember going to physical therapy a lot at Shriners (https://www.shrinerschildrens.org/en/locations/chicago). Thankfully they paid for everything, including the hotel visits for extended stays. My family was always there for moral support while learning to do things like walking and talking.
  • It's important to know what the kid can and cannot do for themselves. Let them try things by themselves, and tell them that there is no shame in asking for help. My parents gave me so much unrealistic praise that I got severe internalized ableism and I get frustrated whenever I mess up. It's hard to ask for help for doing otherwise simple tasks, and the kid has to confident enough to try things on their own and not ashamed to ask for help.
  • The kid will probably get a sort of cast that keeps their bones straight. I was frustrated with casts as a kid ("why use a cast that doesn't reverse cerebral palsy" + bullying) and my spine is deformed because I made the decision to not wear a cast. I regret it.
  • Find them a hobby they enjoy. Video games are pretty accessible nowadays with accessibility features and controller. I love video games because I can beat able-bodied people in them when I can't play physical sports. I love video games so much I dreamed of being a streamer (I gave up though, rip). There are places out there with disability sports leagues and lots of fun things for kids of all abilities.

I don't really know if I can help you. I'm an adult approaching 30 and I don't really know what I can really give. I just think it's important to make them feel accepted while treating their disability realistically. I think the unrealistic expectations of my parents did a lot of mental damage they did not really expect.

i don't think the game is nearly as big as people make it out to be, but i still don't think it's very enjoyable. everything takes a bit too long to do and the fps is awful. it's one of few games where i cannot imagine not playing a rerelease over the original because its lag was awful

The only thing I miss from it is custom moves
i think too many people think "they were unbalanced so who cares", but:
  1. they can rebalance them
  2. they're optional, dumb casual shit
  3. they could've repurposed tthem into moves for echoes instead of having daisy and richter as boring-ass clones
it just sucks that a character like palutena lost a ton of moves and they just didn't repurpose them at all

really? oh, would you accept like working at walmart or mcdonald's though?
i worked at walmart before. i was the person in the fitting room who took calls, carried returns, and tagged clothes. it was awful because i needed a doctor's note for accommodations (having cerebral palsy was not enough) and it got so bad that i was basically on painkillers all day for a month. as soon as i started contemplating taking 3 a day i knew it was not worth it

i'm waiting to get a doctor's note eventually so i never have to go through that misery again. i'd rather do a more simple job like a cashier or something but i wouldn't be against grilling burgers or stocking food in a grocery store (they usually have lifting requirements they can't accommodate for). just something so i can work like 12-15 hours a week without injuring myself

i'd rather be able to work at home, but if i have to walk 7 minutes to work i would. i just need proper accommodation next time

i have cerebral palsy. i get money from the government and i live with my father

i wish i could be a streamer (copium) or have some simple job i can do at home for a extra $1000/month or something so i feel less like a leech. i keep getting denied when i apply for at-home jobs though

the fact that i have a disability, get income from the government, and live with my parents at my age feels really bad. the last time i got a part time job it was so physically demanding that i was forced to quit

it's not like i'm super struggling or anything, but feeling like a slacker feels really bad and i wish i could work at home for extra income

TopicMicro transactions: love it or hate it, but which game is doing it right?

the fact that people use mental gymnastics like "it's not that expensive, actually", "it's content you can just play the game for anyways", and "i can spend just a little bit every now an then" are why devs continue to create abusive microtransactions

some games have good dlc expansions that aren't just day 1 dlc. wipeout hd fury basically doubled the base game's content for cheap

very low. people tend to be impressed by how good i am at video game while having cerebral palsy but i never take them seriously. my family even talks about how i should capitalize on my disability as a streamer but i just know that they're talking out of their ass which makes me feel worse
TopicAnyone here ever been addicted to painkillers?
anttttt
05/15/24 12:22:04 PM
#22
no, but i have a bad memory with pain meds. when i worked at walmart, i wasn't aware that i needed a doctor's note for accommodations because i thought having cerebral palsy would be enough. they made me stand for 5 hours a day

it was so physically painful that i took two painkillers a day and i slept for twelve hours when i got home, barely having time to be with family or friends. then the pain started getting so bad that i was seriously contemplating upping the dose, and at that point i realized the job wasn't worth it and resigned (i did work the rest of the week out)

it was awful, and i think i would've been an addict if i didn't stop working. i really wish i could work at home or be a streamer or have an office job. i was not aware of how bad my physical limitations were until i worked at walmart, and it was probably the most depressing month of my life.

the game has too many zones and acts that are just really boring, like sandopolis, marble garden, carnival night, flying batter (no idea why people love this outside of the theme), and a couple of mediocre acts in otherwise-good zones. still a good game but mania's way better and more consistent

3 started the trend of having bad bosses after nearly every level, but at least most of them are on the mindless end of bad

the infinite 1-up trick still works

it's not a particularly difficult game, though. it's definitely challenging but it's not at the top of the famicom library or anything. learning how to accelerate backwards makes some segments way easier and playing super patient really helps

the big hurdle is learning how to control mario. he's pretty stiff and the original never really demanded much out of the player so you never really had to control mario in tight situations

might consider going to the grocery store part-time. i already get benefits from the government so i only want a simple job that doesn't demand too much. not to mention food discounts which will add up. working remote is too unrealistic for me atm so it's not like i can work at home or do my dream job (streaming) so i might as well pick a practical and easy job
