From your own article, in her words:

After being the victim of a crime in my early twenties, I developed PTSD. The journal that was stolen was part of my efforts to heal.
I am a private citizen, targeted only because my father happened to be running to be President. In other words, the extensive work I have done to move past my trauma was undone by Ms. Harris's actions.
Although this criminal act happened more than three years ago, because of the publicity it drewexactly as Ms. Harris intendedI am constantly re-traumatized by it. I will forever have to deal with the fact that my personal journal can be viewed online.
Repeatedly, I hear others grossly misinterpret my once-private writings and lob false accusations that defame my character and those of the people I love.

Guys, you need to read your sources.
This.

There are really too many people on the internet who ignore facts.
A common problem on social media platforms these days.

I don't get what's so hard about checking sources first, understand the context and being careful before sharing such "informations".

It's called common sense. The correct thing to do is to listen to and to understand both sides and find solutions on a common ground. Because finding middlegrounds is what makes us human and eventually helps to reduce frustration, hatred and crimes. If you fail to understand such basics, and if you accuse everyone who doesn't share your point of view, maybe you should question yourself for once and understand that it's your extreme stance that is part of the problem.

That's all I say.

Negative, because these protest movements have been partially undermined by people who are either anti-semitic or anti-democratic. The protesters are either ignorantly or willfullingly tolerating their own undermining. Fueled by one-sided social media usage, they loose what's important in conflicts. Staying level-headed, seeing the conflict as a whole, understanding both points of views, standing for a general good cause instead of simply taking one side only.

I've said it in another thread:

I condemn the way Israel's right-wing government responded to the terrorist attack on Oct 7. I truely do. I wished they would have responded differently.
But at the same time, protesters, who can't see the complexity of the conflict as a whole, and who are unable to see and understand both positions, are taking a one-sided stance.
Israel aims to eliminate those who want to extinguish them (Hamas). They have been already in the past - and still are - a genocidal target for certain groups. While I disagree with the methods they responded to Hamas' attack, I can somewhat understand that they want to eliminate the threat that wants them dead (Hamas). Israel is not commiting a genocide, because they do not have the intent to extuingish all Palestinians. They want to extuingish the terrorist organization Hamas, who wants to extinguish all Jews with genocidal intent.

Naturally, that is still no excuse for how Israel's government has been operating ever since, which is why I condemned them earlier.

But the cause of all this are terrorist organizations in general, and Hamas in particular.
I want Palestinians being able to peacefully live in their own state.
I want jewish people being able to peacefully live in Israel.
I want terrorist organizations to cease to exist.
I want no civil casualties on either side.

While it's okay to be for an independent Palestine state and to condemn civil casualties, I wished, the people who participate on these protest movements would not tolerate anti-semitic people among them. I wished, they would protest "for a peaceful world", "against war" or "against terrorist organizations", instead of simply taking one side and look at the conflict with a social media fueled bias.

The latter only leads to more division and not to what's desperately needed:
A common ground, where it's possible to grow mutual understanding eventually.

A part of the protest movements is, that they are being undermined by anti-semitic people. Some of the protesters don't even notice it. Others don't care.

This isn't leading to anything.

And that is exactly what I meant in my previous post. It's one thing - and totally legit and rightful! - to pray for Palestine civilians and condemn what Netanyahu and his regime is doing in Gaza. But it's not okay to delegitimize the terrorism on oct 7, to legitimize Hamas, or generally spread hate of Jews at the same time. But this stance can be seen from many participants of these pro-Palestine protest movements, unfortunately. I find that worrying.

Being pro-Palestine is quite taboo in the US it seems.
Personally, I think it would be good if people didn't constantly take simple pro or con stances, but instead stood up for generally valid principles.

One of the biggest problems with such protest movements is that they can be influenced or even taken over by outside propagandists. What I mean is basically what the person below me wrote:

emblem-man posted...
You have outside people joining the protest with some really bad actual antisemitic language, and it's badly coloring the more peaceful protests which is unfortunate.
Whole thing is looking like a shit show it seems

I wish there was a stronger protest movement "for peace" or "against terror". Or at least more nuances movements like "against Netanyahu and his government" and at the same time "against hamas".
Being "pro-Palestine" is not wrong per se, but among the people who participate on these movements there are unfortunately always some, who spread hatred of Jews or deny the State of Israel their right to exist.

They undermine the protest movement and promote the conflict. Which is the opposite decent humans should aim for. The aim should be de-escalation and a holistic understanding of the conflict, not an increasingly one-sided intake of information. This only encourages radicalization.

It is my observation, probably due to excessive usage of social media, that more and more people are unable to see and discuss about a conflict while trying to understand both sides (and the conflict as a whole).

This is a shockingly myopic view of the proxy war that's been orchestrated by Iran for the last two decades.

In a broad sense, there are two types of nations in the Middle East. Stable nations with functional economies who collaborate with the international community. This is your Saudi Arabias, Israels, Iraqs, Qatars, Omans, ect.

Then there are you broken states run by fundamentalist military juntas or terrorist organizations. They have nearly non-existant economies and their only significant interactions with the international communities is exporting raw resources and taking international aid. This is your Yemens, Syrias, Jordans, ect.

Essentially every stable country hates Iran, and every broken country works with Iran. This is because Iran has been funnelling tons of weapons, ammo, and military advisors into the hands of the absolute worst actors in basically every cobflict zone in the Middle East, including Hezbollah and Hamas, which is directly relevant to Israel. Iran is an enemy to stability and peace in the region. There is simply no other way to put it.

Iran has essentially been firing rockets into Israel for literal decades now. Think of all the Israeli deaths that Iran is directly responsible for over the years. If there was no Iran, there would be no massive Hamas terrorist attack. They would not have had the weapons and training necessary to embolden them so, and the likely explicit backing of Iran behind the scenes. While I fundamentally disagree with Israel's approach to Palestine, it is utterly absurd and hypocritical to look at this situation and say "Well, Israel should have just not provoked Iran!"
Great post. Good to see some common sense here on CE.
Edit: I'd put Jordan to the former group, though.

Biden didn't have to "earn my vote" because I'm not complicit in a fucking fascist rise to power. Biden didn't have to "earn my vote" because I can see the big picture and I'm not so far up my own ass that I'm going to sit be cool with my LGBT, non white, non religious friends and family be persecuted by an aspiring fascist.

It's that fucking simple. I'm not voting for Biden, I am voting against Trump. If you believe a 3rd party is the answer, you're a fool. And just as culpable if Trump wins.

I shave and trim my body hair regularly, yes. About 4 times a year. I like my look better that way and it's more comfortable, especially on hot days in summer.

I've always thought that 2001: A Space Odyssey is painfully boring and slow
(I love other Kubrick films though, like Fullmetal Jacket)
