Here's the French version for comparison:

Is the Opera House performance something that can be altered if you switch on the 'original' soundtrack in the menu? I didn't strictly hate it, but I might end up doing that next time if the game allows it.

I was about to buy it and realized the GBA version enhancements like extra summons, Dragon's Den, and Soul Shrine aren't in the Pixel Remaster. Big mistake. I guess the definite way to play FF6 atm is the Steam version with mods to make it better.

My opinions on the GBA extra content are mixed. Give me a version that has the four new Espers and a simple boss rush of the overpowered 8 Dragons + Kaiser Dragon and I'd be happy.

How does it hold up to the original?

FF6 is my all-time favorite video game, so I had every reason to be hyper-critical of it; bearing that in mind, it's about as good a remaster as I could've reasonably hoped for. The remixed songs range from great to gorgeous ("Searching for Friends" in particular goes fuckin' HARD), the updated battle backdrops and effects are very nice, and they finally fixed that syncing issue with the ending cutscene vignettes / soundtrack that's plagued every previous rerelease of the game.

My only real nitpicks are some changes to the Opera House performance, and the remixed Narshe track is a bit muddier than the original.

This is just the beginning.

100 years from now, when every movie is made by AI and look as seamless as a movie shot with "real people", we'll look back at this like people look at silent movies and say "people were really entertained by this and thought it looked good?"

The difference is that, while people marveled at and were entertained by Trip to the Moon and other early films in their heyday, no one in our current era (other than the techbros who made it) will marvel at or be entertained by this AI movie. Why? Because it's not a new form of media. Photography and film were new, exciting forms of media. 3D animation was a new form of media. Apart from the 'fever dream' aesthetic, AI isn't creating anything new; it's just repackaging and regurgitating what already exists, taking an already-oversaturated market and threatening to flood it to biblical proportions.

I liked it too. Just wish they had more of the "tower defense" aspect

There's a settlement defense Creation that's supposed to be pretty good at filling this niche. It also adds a lot of really nice junk fence options that actually snap and sink into the ground (not to mention a proper assign-able guard tower).

I personally haven't gotten much use out of the tower defense feature because I didn't buy it until after 2019, and having more than 10 NPCs in a built-up settlement is just begging for a crash. Plus it's also 9 bucks unless you manage to grab it on sale.

Boy I used to, until the XB version's stability went to shit in 2019. Last decent settlement I managed to complete was The Slog with a nice brick wall around the pool and vendors lining it (assets mostly courtesy of the Coffee and Donuts Creation). I even kept it within the bounds of the vanilla build limit and it still became unstable enough that you could only reliably walk around within 15 minutes of booting up the game.

Been wondering if the 'Next Gen' update makes the game playable again, but all my mods got wiped and the menu crashed every other time I tried to re-download a mod, so I nope'd the fuck out of that mess right quick.

EDIT thought I had some pics of that settlement, but I did manage to dig up a couple old pics of my old Spectacle settlement 'Vault Island' and an attempted Oil Rig settlement:

Getting the Biggoron's Sword is always the first thing I do in the 'Adult' world - I will never not get a kick out of jumping Epona over Gerudo Canyon. After that I'll either do Forest>Water>Fire or the recommended Forest>Fire>Water. I dunno if I ever did Forest later simply because it feels like such a good first dungeon for the 'Adult' world.

I liked Spirit Temple as the last dungeon because the far end of the Gerudo Desert felt like the last great frontier of Hyrule. Plus Koume and Kotake are significant enough to have a dual-form boss fight as well as their own theme song.

I sequence-broke that game as much as I could otherwise, but I never switched up Shadow / Spirit Temples beyond the 'suggested' order.

And yet still no Dragonlance film smdh

Dragonlance (at least the original 'Dragons' trilogy) was the first fantasy novel saga I loved, but looking back on it, it was a bit rough plot-wise. I'd push for more of a loose, retooled adaptation than a direct one. EDIT giving it some further thought, I think my main problem with the original trilogy was that Spring Dawning was too much of a messy anti-climax that really only served to set up the 'Twins' trilogy, so that's the only one that needs retooled imo.

Who knows? Maybe BG3's success will get studios looking back on all the old D&D properties.

For the longest time my holdout was that DD had the All Cup Tour feature while 8 didn't, but then someone pointed out that you can more-or-less replicate it in VS Mode. The Booster Pass was the final nail in DD's coffin; you simply can't compare 96 friggin' tracks versus 16 for variety (DD predictably got shafted as far as Booster Pass representation goes, but they at least included Daisy Cruiser, which was the one track I'd been begging for the whole time).

Oh, I wouldn't have logged a fifth of the hours I did on FO4 if I didn't love settlement-building.

But I've always been of the opinion that it's very much a "love it or hate it" arrangement, and anyone who'd love it doesn't need to be sold on it. As soon as the game opens up the option, the people who'll love it will naturally go "oh cool, you can build your own stuff? Okay let's see, I'll throw down some corn and a water pump and a couple turrets and hey I wonder what kinda stuff's in this menu...[10 hours and one immaculately-decorated scrap shack later]...oh wait, wasn't I supposed to be looking for my kid or something?"

Conversely, the people who hate it won't change their mind simply because it's not their cup of tea, and that's perfectly fine; and honestly it's not worth selling them on it because the mechanic does have more than its fair share of warts. The only thing I'll say against that group is that settlement-building is a LOT more optional / negligible than some of them make it out to be; if you don't like it, with very few exceptions it's easy enough to ignore.

I said it was much better than A1's story. I did not say the story was good.

Sorry, but this is still way off. A1's story may be divisive and sub-par to FFT, but it at the very least understands the fundamental progression of a plot as told through main quest missions, and has nuggets of meaningful writing. A2's main quest is an absolute trainwreck, the nadir being that the penultimate main quest has you tracking down low-rent impostors of characters from another game; only when we get to the actual final quest does the game go "oh shit, weren't we supposed to have a plot?"

I played A2 through at least two, probably three times (gameplay at least is still solid, and that's my main draw to the Tactics series anyway), and for the life of me I can't remember a single redeemable quality about its plot / main quest. There are stories that are hated because they failed to live up to expectations, and are fertile grounds for debate years later; and then there are stories that are never talked about, because we're so overwhelmed with secondhand embarrassment that we'd all prefer to pretend they never happened; A1 is arguably in the former camp, but A2 is resoundingly in the latter camp.

There's one for each. I've only ever played male and for men it's called "Lady Killer", which has him talking to a woman and as he's holding a knife behind his back.

People used to suggest going woman for Black Widow in 3/NV since it was assumed there were more male enemies / speech checks in the game than female, thus making male / Lady Killer less effective. Dunno if that was ever true, but even if it was I doubt it's still true enough to be relevant in 4; iirc there's a pretty equal split between male and female raiders for instance, even with the named raider bosses.

Hand to god I have never in my life heard anyone praise A2's abysmal story, and I pray I'll never have to again.

Like, I saw the bright side in every mediocre or so-bad-it's-good plot that Square put out prior to that - hell, even Dirge of Cerberus had one or two moments that I kinda liked. But A2's story was the first Square game where I had to sit down and say "oh my god, this was absolute dogshit from start to finish."

One other suggestion TC, if it's not too late: play as a woman. I've never played a man so I can't verify this myself, but by nearly every account and anecdote I've picked up over the years, the female VA for the player character is worlds better than the male, to the point where going male might actively drag down your experience with the game.

If you hold the action/drink button on a source of water, instead of just pressing it and letting go, you'll continue to drink and regain HP (and rads) faster

When hacking a terminal, look for strings of text in between signs, like {j3g4k1} These will remove a fake answer or restore your attempts.

Both of those still apply. The only catch is that virtually every water source in FO4 is highly irradiated, and radiation now lowers your max health instead of stats; so chugging is highly unadvised.

The terminal advice is still sound - highlighting and clicking any closed brackets (....) {....} [...] will either remove a fake password or reset your tries. Thing is though that FO4 Hacking has been made much easier in that you never get permanently locked out of a terminal, you just have to wait a few seconds before trying again.

And this is why I made my post. You level up far quicker with Idiot Savant than investing heavily into INT for a slight bump in base EXP. The higher your INT the harder it is to make Idiot Savant proc.

I usually keep my INT at either 4 or 6, can't remember, for a specific thing I want unlocked for settlements.

And I made my post because a first-time player who's never touched a Fallout game before doesn't need anything beyond the very basics advised to them imo. Save the more advanced build tactics for a 2nd playthrough. (I have a feeling you're inclined to counter with 'this isn't advanced lol,' but I'm willing to bet that you didn't naturally intuit this on your own first playthrough).

Unlike other games in the series, Fallout 4 lets you level up infinitely - in addition to stat growth, you can also gain a point to put into a perk at each level-up. So the Intelligence SPECIAL stat is quite useful, since it determines how much Exp. you get - higher INT will allow you to level up faster. There's no real downside to leveling up quickly and plenty to gain (better access to weapons, Power Armor, and more perks available), so I'd recommend starting with high INT.

You can end up having a tough go of it if you neglect to pick weapon damage perks. It also helps to focus on 1-2 weapon types at first instead of spreading your perks too thin; I'd recommend rifles and explosives for a first time, so put perk points into Rifleman and Demolition Expert when available. Crafting perks like Gun Nut are also advised.
