Do you want me to highlight every tolerant message in that thread? Will that satisfy you? It's a thread that only has 40 responses; a fair percentage of those responses are level-headed, an equal amount of responses are obnoxious, and the rest are pointless. I'm sure there's worse topics on that board - this isn't one of them.

This. It especially bugs me when atheists attack another persons faith while that person is going through a particulary tough time. Leave them the f*** alone. There is a time and place for everything and chances are, if the situation they're going through is bad enough then the seeds of skepticism will probably fertilize themselves. You could argue that this reasoning is why religion has been allowed to endure through the centuries but so be it. I'd rather be a good friend or family member and comfort them rather then remind the person of their religion's fallacies.

There is a time and a place for rational discussion of religion. When someone posts on their Facebook "Had a great time with the family today! God blessed us with wonderful weather!" It not necessary to respond with something like "God didn't create the weather man. God doesn't exist." Or even a comment explaining why the weather acts the way it does backed up with science. This is going to be read as an attack and will not illicit a rational discussion in any way. Send them a private message requesting a discussion of their beliefs if they bother you that much.

Yeah, I dug it. The story and most of the characters were kinda silly, but the combat and battle system were really good. It didn't get to me as hard as Symphonia did, but I think Symphonia came out at the right time for me - I probably wouldn't like it as much if I played it for the first time today.

Was Graces made by the same team?

People spend 100 hours playing a series that's main focus is building up the character you want, and the ending doesn't reflect any of it whatsoever. You aren't even limited by your decisions up to that point.

What's not reflected? Leading up to the final conflict, you meet one last time with the surviving squad members you've established relationships with over three games. These people are here because you, the player, brought them there. You have one last moment with your love interest. You see the fleets you've assembled into battle. In the last five minutes, the player is given a choice. These choices are consistent with both paragon and renegade Shepard. Paragon Shepard is a person open to compromise, able to bring peace to long-standing rivals, and willing to stand against a race (and a dead friend) just to give a new form of life an opportunity to live. Renegade Shepard, meanwhile, wants the Reapers dead - that's it. I fail to see where the 99 hours leading up to the final 1 are rendered meaningless. And I don't have a problem with the player given a choice at the end - how much more upset would you be if you were locked into a paragon ending just because you had slightly more paragon points, but you really wanted the renegade ending? I don't think the choice offered at the end is disrespectful of the commitment you gave to the series.

How are Shepard's actions inconsistent? What was out of the blue? I don't think humanity's struggle to exercise and demonstrate their free will is something Bioware put in at the last minute. It's been in all of the games. We are constantly reminded that time is cyclical, events are doomed to repeat themselves, and that there is a deterministic chain of events which will culminate in our destruction. And yet, Shepard and co. push back at every opportunity: Shepard denies death and breaks free of the Illusive Man; Miranda is determined to not let her sister suffer the same controlling fate she did; Mordin is given an opportunity to cure the genophage; the Geth and EDI are given the opportunity to experience consciousness. It's not surprising, then, that Shepard is able to break the galaxy's cycle and save humanity.

Best game in the series. The ending is not nearly as bad as the entire internet is making it out to be. In fact, it's not bad at all.

Mass Effect 3 has more in common 1 than it does 2, especially in the structure of the final conflict. I guess its strongest ties to the second game are the struggle between Shepard and the Illusive Man, and, by extension, its ideas on free will vs. determinism. I mean, sure, you have to gather an army and make peace before the final battle, but that's something you do in every Bioware game, so that's not exactly a new direction. No head shaking here, at least!

anyway, now i can turn my attention to sfxt. time for another game apparently everyone hates

I was having fun earlier playing Mutant Mudds; to compensate for that oversight on my part, I gave myself food poisoning and harassed the family of Renegade Kid employees.

it is not possible to get the perfect ending on a first playthrough without going into multiplayer, but there is no crucial difference between the perfect ending and the good ending. you can get the good ending without doing any multiplayer.

yeah, the internet reaction is intense. the bioware hate has just snowballed out of control since dragon age 2. it's not really warranted this time!

Your choices influence the game as the game happens. Just because the last five minutes didn't tie everything into a neat little bow doesn't mean all of your choices were meaningless. And the ending wasn't bad - what was bad about it? The paragon ending (which I assume most people play for in their first playthrough) was thematically consistent with the entire series, the final confrontations were appropriately foreshadowed, and there were compelling false endings. The last priority mission isn't flawless; I'd say the epilogue is ham-fisted, the Normandy crew members are strange choices, and the final boss is a bit lame, but I don't think those flaws are enough to warrant the absolute trashing Bioware is receiving right now.

EDIT: if there's one thing to complain about, it's the multiplayer, definitely. It's especially frustrating because it's kind of good! It's not the best wave-based survival mode out there, but it's a nice distraction for a couple weeks. Unfortunately, the few weeks where the game will have the most attention is marred by bad servers and matchmaking.

I think it's an issue with the game loading a scene and saving at the same time. All of my freezes have happened when the autosave kicks in while something large is loading.
