It's what I usually work with and kind of approaching this project as a 'recreate my first coding project to relax and get back to enjoying coding' type of thing in addition to the wanting to make a fallback in case this place shuts down.

It does a lot of updating the screen without reloading the entire page, so that could be it. Might need to add in some sort of hold while it loads all the required info before swapping if it's looking too off. --- thcam ruz elliw red |

Barebones test site is up! Going with b8.wtf for now but not committed to it. Working on and testing out changes live so may see some broken screens as I work on things, a classic board8.com experience! Hoping to get that code committed tonight or early this week. I love this idea Thanks! Yeah, hoping it stays a fun little backup plan we don't actually need to migrate to. BlueCrystalTear posted... As a former Mafia player, it would be really, REALLY sweet to have a bot that counts votals, so if we posted ##votals, we'd get the bot to post votals. Grim (GMUN) said this kind of thing was possible when I asked her, but sadly I never got around to figuring out how to run something like that and later stopped playing Mafia. The ## tag denotes actions, including votes and unvotes, so if the bot could search for "##vote:" and "##unvote" when it's on its own line, that would be the best starting point. We would have to require that votes/unvotes were on their own line and everyone would need to state somebody's full username, but that's about it. Thanks for the info, Mafia is something I've never quite got. Should be able to build a few features that help out with that right into the site. redrocket posted... Not much to add at this point beyond that I love that you are doing this. Johnbobb posted... Project 8 was basically Tomy Hawk's response to the Skate series making more realistic skating games, only it didn't capture the more realistic feel of Skate as well and lost its own identity along the way Ah yeah, can definitely see that unpolished Skate influence. Starting up on this as a mix of part fun project and part possible future backup-plan in case this place ever gets shut down. For the initial design I'm going to be sticking mostly to the classic look and features and evolve it from there, if anyone has screenshots of the forums from the ~2003-06(?) era those would be helpful to have! Especially if you have any of things like profiles or the posting screen, can't remember quite what those looked like. Aiming for it to be a little bit more feature rich with things like a classic/mobile layout for phones, API access for making comment bots, and whatever other ideas people may have (ex I know Mafia is popular, are there any built in forum features that would help out with those games?) https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/a/forum/a/a388be37.png One hopefully nostalgia inducing screenshot for now! Nothing wrong with mysql, but what backend host you trying to use? Most use postgresql nowadays like Vercel Was thinking of starting off cheap and easy and just throwing it up on a $5 Linode, haven't worked with postgresql before so might start out with mysql. Almost forgot about the site evolving into a more sprite focused site over time (I think GANON was one of the main sprite rippers) and I remember having some fun live-breaking the site with weird updates constantly and then tanking the value of the sprite-buying currency with a fake stock market. Good times.
I did pick up boardEight.com a while back and could probably throw together a message board system that looks and functions like classic GameFAQs without too much trouble if there was an interest in it.
