But the elites and far right in Israel want their ethnostate and the total destruction of the Palestinian people. And the elites/far right in Palestine want to target civilians and foreclose the possibility of peace that doesn't result in genocide.
They BOTH must be taken out, but the West is propping up one side and seems to accept a slow motion eradication of the other. They both feel that any "peace" is just a trick to get them to slowly submit to their destruction.
