"Not that one.", said the blacksmith, her voice low and intense. "That... was a mistake." I looked into her gothic black eyes in surprise, then at the sword. Single edged with a slight saber curve, it looked... fine. Sharp. Elegant and deadly. The blacksmith stood beside me, almost whispering, "Swords are just metal, pieces of steel with an edge. Only as good or bad as the hand holding them." She turned towards me. "I don't know what happened when I made that... thing," she said, "but it came out of the forge evil. It longs to cut, to kill. It thirsts for blood in a way no mere object ever would or could." As if in answer to her words, the sword suddenly jerked, setting the chains I now saw as restraining it jangling.
