Im someone that exists in both worlds started before took a break and when I came back ChatGPT was around. Like I said in OP students used Chegg and other methods to cheat before ChatGPT. Such as sharing answers on a test. Zoom era classes. You could open a new tab and just google the answers or even have the test be open book.
